“I love you,” he confessed sincerely.

I smiled sheepishly. I had always had feelings for him ever since the first day of school. I nodded without so much as a voice approval, only because I was too thrilled and shocked to even open my mouth.

He smiled and gave me a tight hug, one that I quickly caved into. Soon the news of us becoming a couple spread through the school like wildfire. We ignored the rumours and the disapproving looks and glares from many of our peers. We ignored their comments regarding the longevity of our relationship.

At that time, we were still kids. It was a wonder our relationship managed to survive into university and when we entered our respective careers. Despite our differences, we always somehow had a way to work things out. Yet we hadn’t known, many things would start changing at that point when Myungsoo began working in a photography studio while I worked in a business firm. Many gears began to turn and only time could tell where our relationship was headed.

I wish I had tried to stop him as soon as I felt the churning and the secondhand ticking away the seconds on the clock, counting down towards our end.

Nothing proves to be more difficult than getting over your first love.
