Premise. seo serin is a final year student at the korean academy of film arts (kafa) just about to graduate.... and it's been her goal from day one of entering college to one day to submit her own film to the seoul independent film festival (siff for short), a prestigious showcase that she attends every year. so now that she's about to graduate, she's decided to take a term off to work on her own film to submit to the festival, with minimal funding provided by the academy (and the rest of the tiny budget coming from what little there is in her bank account.) no film is made alone, however, so she places an ad online (and spreads the word around) looking for people to help her out in her film! here's where your character comes in - they can apply as any role listed below:
actors: sojae (seulong), hayeon (hani), the policeman, extras.
scriptwriter, videographer, video editor, set designer, makeup artist, wardrobe-in-charge.
one person can take up more than one position (they're college students working on a tight budget here) so anything's possible! from brainstorming for the plot of the film, scouting out filming sites, revising and practising on the script, checking out costumes and props for the sets, and editing the takes in serin's dimly lit studio apartment, the fic's just going to focus on the process on how the film came to be, and the interactions between the various crew members coming from all different walks of life - from those with a wide array of experiences working on movies to those who came just because they saw 'free food provided'. also, if it wasn't obvious enough, the youtube video from before is the film they'll be producing! so just imagine the mv of seulong's 'you', but like, fleshed out way more and around 45 minutes long.
Setting. this fic'll be set in seoul because that's where kafa's at and where serin resides, but they'll be heading to various places in south korea to complete the film! for example, there's definitely going to be a trip to daecheong island - which is where filming will primarily take place! (the okjungdong sand dunes were the closest to the desert in the mv i could find in korea lol) so expect a lot of staying at budget motels, airbnbs and crashing at serin's place.
Others. you might have noticed adela and jinwon in both the foreword and the chapter before. they're fellow students at kafa and close friends of serin's that will feature as minor side characters in the story just to help push things forward! they won't be part of the main crew because they're busy with college and their own films (serin's the only one who took a term off just for this ambitious project of hers) but they may appear to help out sometimes! you may include them in your app if you want, but really it doesn't matter that much bc they're just minor side characters. adela majors in animation while jinwon's specialty resides in shooting and editing.
Love. for love interests, you can write about anyone you want, but i warn that unless there's a relationship between members of the crew, their relationship with whoever it is probably won't be a heavy focus in the fic, and only mentioned in passing. for that reason, if you intend to have your character be in a relationship with someone not part of the crew, i encourage it to be already established! if not, i would love to see collabs - or you could just leave it up to me to pair characters up together if it works later lolz. otherwise.... there's nothing shameful about being single lolz,
Faces. the only faceclaims you can't use are dia's jueun (serin), g-idle's yuqi (adela) and exo's baekhyun (jinwon). some faces i'd love to see include: anyone from nct (but especially jaemin, mark, yukhei, taeil, sicheng and jaehyun), got7, ikon's bobby and junhoe, seventeen, dia's eunchae, lovelyz's jisoo and jiae, april's naeun, aoa's seolhyun, oh my girl's hyojung, astro's eunwoo, stray kids' jeongin, wanna one's park jihoon, up10tion's wei, xiao, and sunyoul, blackpink's jisoo and jennie, park bogum, jung jaewon, seo kangjoon and nam joohyuk. the password is your character's favourite movie.
Ideas. here's some potential character ideas in case you're running low on inspiration!
+ serin, adela and jinwon are all avid overwatch gamers, and you're friends with them online, playing today sometimes. serin sends out the ad on the overwatch server and you impulsively decide to join the crew.
+ jinwon's younger/older brother?
+ someone who's absolutely terrible at acting who tried out for the role of sojae but ended up as an extra for obvious reasons.... but parades around on sns claiming that they've now been hired as a professional actor.
+ someone who watches too many dramas and movies and now thinks they're some kind of expert at scriptwriting - but turns out everything they write is just. cliche and predictable. so they end up as something else.
+ a famous youtuber who does makeup.
+ someone passionate about photography/videography who took this opportunity as practise and to expand their portfolio.
+ some rich kid who's bored out of their mind and decides to help out because all of their friends are overseas or busy. they're not used to menial labour and having to work so much, and whines way too much but serin keeps them around because of the additional funding she gets from them.
+ someone who joined after seeing serin's instagram (where she spread the word on this on!) and thinking she was pretty lol....
+ someone fresh out of high school..... the baby of the group because they're the youngest and constantly all "SHUT UP I CAN DO THIS BY MYSELF" no u can't ur literally a fetus
+ fellow kafa student! who wants to drop out lol
+ kafa graduate with no inspiration and no job
+ or any uni graduate with no inspiration and no job LOL
