Invitation

With Every Breath I Take

At home, Jaejoong made himself some dinner that was comprised of kimchi, bulgogi, and a little bit of soju. He wasn't a big drinker, but if he was stressed from the day, then he'd drink a bit. Today was one of those days.

Halfway into the meal, Jaejoong's phone buzzed, scaring him. He sighed, shaking his head, and grabbed it. The caller was Yoochun. What did he want? "Hello?"

"Jaejoongie! How is my baby brother?"

"What do you want Yoochun?" Jaejoong didn't want to deal with his overly happy brother.

"Aww, why the sour attitude, Jae? I have some good news for you."

"What is it?" This better have been good.

"... I found you a new brother!"

Jaejoong nearly choked on his food. He had to pound on his chest and cough profusely just to be able to breathe again. "W-what?!"

"I'm engaged, JaeJae! Aren't you happy for me?" Yoochun chuckled.

Jaejoong wasn't sure what to say. He'd never liked his brother because of his overconfident attitude and cocky lifestyle, but hearing that he was engaged to somebody made him somewhat happy. Maybe Yoochun wouldn't bother him as much anymore. "Who's the lucky lady?" Jaejoong finally spluttered out.

"Well... His name is Kim Junsu."

Jaejoong's eyebrow raised. He never knew his brother was gay. "I thought you liked women."

"I thought I did, too, but when I saw Junsu... oh, boy, that was a sight to see. Smooth skin glistening under the sunlight, big , nice lips, and that voice! When he screams my--"

"Too much! Too much!" Jaejoong was holding the phone away from his ear now, not wanting to hear about his brother's life. He wasn't exactly innocent, but talking about that kind of stuff wasn't his thing.

Yoochun let out another chuckle. "Fine, fine. I called you to tell you that my wedding's in two weeks. I'd like you to bring a friend with you, okay? And bring gifts for us!" With that, the line clicked and Jaejoong put his phone down on the table. He didn't move for a while and just sat there in thought. His brother found love? With a man? What a miracle.

Finishing his dinner, he cleaned his plate and silverware, and threw away the soju bottle. He was feeling warm inside, so he decided it'd be a good time to go to bed.

Somewhere in the city, Yunho was digging through some trash for food. He didn't like doing it because of the stares he got, but he was used to them, so he continued his search. He never had any luck finding decent food, but he didn't complain. At least he had some.

After about ten minutes with no luck, he gave up, ignoring his growling stomach. He hadn't had food for about three days, and if he went on like this, he was sure to pass out somewhere on the street and fall prey to drunken bastards that only wanted the body for pleasurable purposes.

That was one thing he wished he never had to experience. When his mother was still alive, he lived a happy life as a young child with a bright future, even though he couldn't remember most of it. Still, he cherished it for as long as he could. He couldn't remember his mother's face, though. He knew she was beautiful, but what color were her eyes? Did she have long hair? Was she pretty? The questions constantly ran through his mind.

As his stomach growled even more, he suddenly smelled grilled chicken with tomatoes and pickles. He saw stars as the scent. It smelled delicious! Where was it coming from? Could he get some if he asked? Would the owners of the meal be mad if he asked if they would so kindly share half their meal? Only one way to find out.

Following the scent, Yunho held onto his stomach as if it was going to fall out if he didn't and arrived at the destination. It was a destination called "Mirotic Mirage." It was a cafe restaurant. He'd heard of it from the passersby that didn't pay any attention to him. Listening was a good quality if you were homeless and hungry.

He decided to walk into the restaurant. Normally, when you walk into a restaurant, people expect you to be clean and fresh, but Yunho was nowhere near that. He hadn't been in any water for two weeks straight, and his clothes were ratty and torn. Nobody threw clothes away. They sold them and other families used them. When he found some, they were always children's clothes that couldn't fit him. There was one clean place on his body: his mouth. He had a toothbrush that he found on the ground outside of a grocery store oh-so-conveniently. He also had an unlimited supply of toothpaste. He was especially skilled at shoplifting when he needed it. No matter what, Yunho always wanted a clean mouth. He liked his teeth and didn't want them to rot.

He approached the first cashier with the lady behind it and smiled, deciding that he could get points if he showed his pearly whites. "Hello," he said softly.

The woman looked him up and down as if he was crazy. "What?"

"I would like a chicken sandwich with tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, horse radish, mustard, and ketchup. Make it a large please. Oh, and french fries would be nice, too." He even surprised himself at his ordering skills.

"You gonna pay for all of that?" she asked in a snarky voice, chomping on her gum loudly.

Yunho thought she was a little rude, but he was used to it, and worse. "I will after I get it."

"No, you have to pay here."

His heart sunk at the words. He wouldn't be able to pay for anything. "Okay... I'm sorry." He turned to leave.

"I'll pay for him."

Yunho's eyes widened at the voice. Where had he heard it before?

"Oh, hello, Jaejoong-sshi! What are you doing here so late at night?"

"I couldn't sleep so I decided I wanted some coffee that only Mirotic Mirage can serve."

Yunho stared at the beauty incredulously, not being able to believe that he was really there. Was he an angel sent from heaven to protect him?

The woman giggled and handed him her change after he paid. "Thank you, Jaejoong-sshi. Enjoy your coffee." Then she turned to Yunho with a glare when Jaejoong passed by her, Yunho following obediently. He stuck his tongue out at her and she gasped. He couldn't help but chuckle a little bit.

Still not willing to believe Jaejoong was there and paying for his food, Yunho looked around the place. It sure was big and pretty. He resented the place because they could share some food to the homeless and still have plenty for their paying customers.

Soon, the two acquaintances were sitting at a two-person table. Yunho shifted in his seat uncomfortably, not used to the feeling of a cushioned sitting place.

"So--Yunho, was it?" Jaejoong started.

Yunho nodded quickly. His breath hitched when Jaejoong smiled sweetly.

"Have you ever been to a restaurant before?"

Yunho shook his head to Jaejoong's question, bowing it in shame. "I-I've never had the money..."

"It's okay, Yunho. Not many people come to them anyway. This one just has good food." Jaejoong leaned closer to Yunho over the table, looked around to make sure no one was looking or near, and whispered, "But my food's better." He giggled and went back to his original position.

The homeless man's ears perked when he heard that. "Y-you cook?" His stomach growled at the thought. It was pretty loud.

Jaejoong ignored it. "Of course I do. I live alone, so I have to fend for myself, you know?" He smiled again, shrugging. "I don't know. Being the way I am, I have to be like this."

"Why do you have to?"

Jaejoong looked Yunho in the eye. "It's the way I am."

Yunho felt like he understood the underlying meaning behind his words--that he had a different side to him that hardly anybody knew about--but didn't question it. He just hummed and picked up his menu, unable to read it. He'd never been in school, so he was never able to read or talk properly, so he stumbled over his words sometimes, even though he was 21.

"Do you know what you want yet?" Jaejoong asked, looking up to Yunho with his large doe eyes.

The said man looked back. "I knew earlier."

Jaejoong mouthed an "Oh" and went back to the menu, still not sure if he should get food or not since he already had dinner. Then a thought crossed his mind.

A waiter walked over. "What would you two like today?"

Yunho quickly talked first. "A grilled chicken sandwich with tomatoes, pickles, horse radish, mustard, and ketchup. I want fries, too." He smiled and looked at Jaejoong with bright eyes, proud of himself.

The beauty smiled back, his stomach churning at the look. It was a good kind of churning, though. He liked it.

"And for you?" the waiter asked, turning to Jaejoong.

"Umm... The Number One, a large Pepsi, and some coffee." He flashed a smile that stopped the waiter in his tracks, and then went back to his work.

"Alright. I'll be back with your drinks as soon as I can."

When the waiter walked away, Yunho asked, "What's 'The Number One'?"

"Oh. It's a meal deal. I can get a sandwich, some fries, another side, and a soda. That means I'm getting two sodas, a large hamburger, large fries, and a coffee." He smiled sweetly again.

"... You eat a lot."

Jaejoong laughed this time and covered his mouth with the back of his hand. It was a trait Yunho immediately adored. He noticed that Jaejoong was just an adorable person in general.

They sat there and talked about nothing in particular when their food finally came. "Thank you, sir," Jaejoong told the waiter, watching the food appear in front of him and the person opposite of him.

Almost immediately, Yunho wolfed down his chicken sandwich like he hadn't had food in years.

"A little hungry there?" Jaejoong giggled.

Yunho nodded, taking the last bite and almost burping out loud, but kept his mouth closed and covered it with his fist. His mother always told him not to burp out loud in nice places. "Excuse me," he said after he was finished. His stomach still wasn't full, so he eyed the food in front of Jaejoong. He hadn't touched any of it--just his coffee.

Jaejoong saw how he stared. "Would you like some?" he asked.

Yunho bit the inside of his cheek and shook his head. "You can eat it."

"But I didn't buy it for me."

It took a second for the meaning to click in Yunho's head, but a smile graced his face when he did notice it. "Y-you got that for me...?"

Jaejoong nodded.

Wow... Yunho thought. He really is an angel sent from heaven for me. "Thank you, Jaejoong-ah." He grabbed the plate with the burger on it and ate all of it in under a minute, almost choking on the food, but washing it down with the soda. He'd never had a soda before, and it didn't taste very good, but he didn't have anything else to drink, so he took it gratefully. The french fries were gone in 30 seconds, and when Yunho finished the food, he sat back in his seat and rubbed his stomach. He felt great.

Jaejoong set his small cup of coffee down, empty. He smiled brightly at the satisfaction on Yunho's face, knowing he was able to help somebody in need. "Feel better, Yunho?"

"Yes, very much. Thank you for buying me everything." He bit his lip. "How can I repay you?"

Jaejoong thought for a second before gasping. "You can come to my brother's wedding with me!"

If Yunho had been eating, he would've choked and died. "W-wedding?"

Jaejoong nodded. "Yeah, in two weeks. He called me tonight and told me I could bring a friend. Would you like to come?"

Looking down at his ratty clothes, Yunho debated on whether or not they'd accept him there. "I don't have any nice clothes, though..."

"Oh, don't worry about that! We can go shopping together later and get you a nice tuxedo." Jaejoong nodded approvingly, imagining how handsome his new friend would be in a black tuxedo. He blushed at the thought.

Yunho couldn't help but smile a little. Then he realized something else. "I haven't had a shower in... a while. I'm going to stink." He was sure Jaejoong could smell it.

The latter just shrugged. "It doesn't make a difference to me. Everybody stinks, if you ask me. A shower, deodorant, and some cologne will do the trick for you."

Yunho just kept bringing the negatives up. "How will I keep the tuxedo safe if I have no house? How will I get clean with no shampoo? How will I--"

Jaejoong held his hand up. "There's a simple solution to all of this."

Yunho's eyes widened. "Really? What is it?"

"Stay at my place."
