Alien Meets Sock.

When You Give An Alien A Cookie

A bright ray of sunlight peaked slowly through the curtains, over powering the dark in her bedroom. Her eyes twitched to tell her that it was already morning.  It was another day, another day Chae Ri must painfully live through.

As soon as she unlocked her bedroom door she was immediately greeted by the over energetic Ljoe. "Humans sleep for 9 hours?" He complained. "Aliens only need 1 hour of sleep." Ljoe boasted, he bounced up from the couch and followed her footsteps. A small flicker of happiness lighted up in her heart. It wasn't a dream after all. She wasn't alone.

Heading towards the kitchen Chae Ri dugged through the cabinets, she can't really remember when was the last time she ate. Her stomach rumbled with pain from the emptiness. "Human, I'm hungry. Give me another cookie." Chae Ri stared at him blankly before sweeping pass him. Though he only slept for an hour, his ruffled, messy hair seemed to  prove otherwise.

"Human!" Ljoe groaned, "is there like a specific time you can talk?" Slowly opening to speak, she was caught off guard as Ljoe took it as a chance to quickly stick his pinky into her nose. "Can. You. Hear. Me?" Ljoe was once again inside her head. His eyes were staring at her with such strong intensity she couldn't look away. "Human, feed me!" Ljoe spoke once more telepathically. The moment was quickly interrupted and she pushed him away.

"I told you not to do that again!" She glared.

 "I'm hungry-"

"You're not the only hungry one." Chae Ri sighed, "go and get ready. I'll take you out to eat."

"I am ready." Ljoe looked at her as if she was crazy. He was wearing nothing but those black shorts. Chae Ri shot him back the same look.

Maybe she was the crazy one. Heading towards the duffle bag that the creepy Ahjumma gave them, she hoped there would be something normal inside it for him to wear. Her eyes rounded in astonishment. It contained really expensive brand named clothes. From Lacoste to Adidas, to Burberry, to Calvin Klien. She chuckled to herself as she imagined what her son's reaction would be when he comes back from army duty to find out that his mom gave his clothes away. Digging into the bag she found a pair of black chucks in a box. Seems like it has yet to be worn. She dugged even deeper and found several pairs of socks. She threw the sneakers and a pair of socks at Ljoe. "Put these on... Hopefully they fit."

Ljoe looked at it curiously. "Put them on where exactly?" He lifted them up and sniffed them.

"Your hands," Chae Ri said sarcastically, but to her astonishment he actually did put them on his hands. "I was being sarcastic. Of course you put them on your feet!"

Ljoe flopped onto the couch. He lifted a foot up and placed it in the shoe. Ljoe quickly frowned. "I don't like it-"

"Well, too bad. In order to pretend to be human, you gotta blend in, so you must dress like a human. It's part of our rules remember?" Chae Ri pulled out dark blue jeans and a classic black adidas hoodie.

She placed the clothes in front of the mumbling Ljoe. "Complaints? You can leave," she said sternly.

"I didn't say anything," he mumbled. Setting the shoes down, he struggled getting his feet in them.

Chae Ri stood there quietly observing until she couldn't take anymore of the frustration. "Here, let me help you." Chae Ri crouched down infront of him, pulling his feet out on top of her thigh. "This shoe goes on the right, this goes on the left. But before you put shoes on, you need these." She waved the socks infront of his face.

"Oh. So they weren't mean't to cover that thing..." Ljoe looked deep in thought as he looked down at the space between his thighs.

Staring at him in horror, she quickly continued to explain the real concept of socks. "You wear these so your feet wo-would feel more comfortable while wearing shoes -also! It keeps them warm!" Chae Ri blushed, feeling very awkward. Her face suddenly darkened as she remembered the most important thing. Scurrying back to the duffle bag, she hoped that there were undergarments as well. Emptying out the bag, she sighed in relief. There were 4 boxers still in their unopened packages. She opened one, and placed on top of the sweater and jeans.

She crawled back to Ljoe and quickly grabbed his foot. As she pulled the sock on him, Ljoe's expression suddenly froze. He gave Chae Ri a slight push, making her topple back on her bum. "What?" She asked alarmed at his expression.

"My foot, it can't breathe!" Leaning his back on the couch he exasperated in relief when he removed the sock. As if he was drowning, he struggled to breathe.

"Too bad-" Chae Ri grabbed his foot again and pulled the sock over once again. Ljoe struggled to get it off. "If you don't wear them, I won't buy you cookies," she warned. He stopped struggling, and leaned back once more into the couch in defeat.

Though Ljoe badly wanted to protest, but he had to give in. Chae Ri couldn't help but chuckle lightly to herself. He totally reminded her of a little kid that can easily be bribed.

After an easy, yet tiring battle, she finally managed to get the socks over his feet. Watching him sulk from the corner of her eyes she couldn't help but smile at how strangely cute he was. Ljoe noticed her staring at him and leaned forward towards her.

Abruptly standing up, Chae Ri brushed him aside once more. "Let's go eat. I'll try to go back to work on Monday...If they let me come back ... so I need to teach you the basic stuff about the 'human' world. For my sake and yours."

After what seemed like an hour of trying to dress him up, she finally managed to get the hoodie over his head. Looking at him from head to toe, she realized she forgot something. "The pants. The underwear. Oh ," she cussed. "Take the shoes off."

"Yaay!" He joyfully obeyed, his frown finally disappearing.

"Don't get too happy, you'll be putting them on again." Ljoe sighed. He knew it was too good to be true. He managed to take them off by himself. "Now put these pants, and underwear on-" Ljoe started ing his shorts. "In the washroom!!" she quickly faced the opposite wall away from him.

"Where is that?" Ljoe was already starting to get really annoyed with the human ways of doing things, when he can't do anything the alien way- the right, easy way. Chae Ri pointed to the door while trying to avoid contact. "Make sure you put on underwear as well. Underwear goes on before the pants!"

He came out of the washroom a few moments later. Luckily for her, aliens know how to put pants and underwear on. He sat back down on the couch waiting for another human thing that she'll make him do. He thought it over the whole night, he decided that he'd rather be this human's slave than to starve. Once he gets his memory back, he'll leave right away. He won't be needing to follow human orders ever again.

Slowly picking up the shoes he surprised her by knowing how to put them on himself. Chae Ri watched in shock as he tied each shoe perfectly. He looked back up at her as if he read her mind. "Aliens learn faster than humans." He smirked cockingly. There was nothing much for Chae Ri to say or do except sigh.

"That's good then. There's a few basic things you need to learn about this human world. This is a very crowded city, not like that small town by the ocean. Make sure that if you bump into someone, apologize. If you step on someone's foot, apologize. Humans hate it when they are stared at, so no staring. What else... Only speak when spoken to. Also don't wander too far from me when we are outside. Oh if we get separated-"

"I can follow your scent-"

"Don't." She quickly interrupted. "Please don't do anything non-human like- especially outside. Remember you must pretend to be a human in a human world."

Ljoe pouted. "How can great creatures such as Aliens pretend to be humans?" he mumbled.

Ignoring him, she continued, "First of all, don't call me Human. Don't call anyone human. Chae Ri is my name, Lee Chae Ri."

"Lee Chae Ri," Ljoe monotonically repeated.

"As you were saying?"

"If we get separated, call my cell number. 990-813-8979 Also call it if there's some sort of emergency, or trouble-"

"990-813-8979." Ljoe squinted at her, "What's it suppose to do? Did it work yet? 990-813-8979. 990-"

"What will I do with you?!" Chae Ri yelled in distressed. "I'll explain how that works later on," Chae Ri took a deep breath in. "Remember my address as well. 11-1154 Taepyeong. If you get lost, ask someone which direction you should go-"

"It's easier if I just sniff you out." Ljoe grunted. "Why do humans always prefer to do things the harder way?!"

"I'll guess I won't buy you cookies."

"Okay! I'm listening. Hurry up, I'm so hungry I could eat the big dipper."

"Oh most importantly," Chae Ri went into her room to look for her wallet. "If you ever want something in this world, you need money." She took out a couple of bills to show him.

"I know that. I remember learning that in school. Humans 'pay' for stuff." By this time Ljoe looked extremely bored. He started scratching the outer lobe of his ear, sending irks up Chae Ri's skin.

"How does it work then?"

"You pay with that bill, then you get what you want. Sometimes you get some money back if you paid extra."

Chae Ri looked at Ljoe impressed. "You're not that stupid after all-"

"Huh? Stupid? You're calling an Alien stupid? Humans are the stupid ones, why do they wear 'socks'? Do they want their feet to choke to death? Wow, and you call Aliens stupid."

Not bothering with Ljoe's last remarks, she tried finding something decent to wear. Her clothes were scattered everywhere from her fight with Cap the other night. She no longer knew what was clean, and what wasn't. Chae Ri searched for the cleanest thing she could find. Slipping on a plain brown tee, and black jeans, she grabbed her favorite over-sized grey knitted cardigan. Hastily tying up her hair into a bun, she motioned Ljoe to follow, "Let's go." Lastly she flopped on a pair of flipflops and they headed out the door. Chae Ri braced herself. She knew that letting an alien out into the human world can give her more than she had bargained for.

She opened her apartment door and Ljoe ran excitedly down the stairs like a puppy out for a walk. "Human- I mean, Chae Ri! I smell cookies! Hurry let's go, why are you so slow?!" Ljoe ran back towards her, and grabbed onto her hand, pulling her towards the scent. She couldn't help but notice the special kind of warmth that came from the touch of his hand. "Tsk. Do you want me to carry you all the way there? Or are you going to hurry up?"

"What?"

"Then I guess I'm carrying you there!" Ljoe bent down and flopped Chae Ri over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Her legs shot down towards the ground, while her pointed forward.

"He-hey! Let me down!" She tried to struggle away. No matter what, she did not want to look at an alien's , nor be carried into the city.

"Too late," Ljoe peaked over his shoulder to look down at Chae Ri. "I'm too hungry to be following the human way," he sent her a charming smile that suddenly made her heart skip a beat.
