Goodbye

Never Easy, Always Worth It - Chen

“Goodbye” Your broken whisper replied to his as more tears rolled down your cheeks, hearing the phone call end, closing your eyes allowing the built up tears to fall. Following the wet tracks down your cheeks your hand removed the phone from your ear as you saw his contact information and picture staring back up at you. Sobs began to commence as your hand lifted over your mouth to try and silence the heartbreak. Watching the screen go dark, you dropped your phone down on the couch as you attempted to dry your tears with the damp cuffs of your long sleeves.

Your feet shuffled across the floor while your hands scraped across your scalp. Taking a deep breath, you tried to calm your racing heart while your eyes coated over with fresh tears. Tensing your lips they began to quiver with frustration as the tears lined your eyelashes threatening to fall. Pacing around your apartment, you began to feel weak as the weight of the your new reality settled on your shoulders. Easing yourself down onto the couch cushions, you pulled your knees to your chest as you covered yourself in a blanket to try and create some security for yourself, grabbing the remote you flipped on your television and flipped through the different channels, just as you settled on one show, a relationship scene played. Turning the channel, you surfed the channels a bit more until you put in a movie that you owned and knew by heart.

The darkness around your apartment coated over the furniture, slowly swallowing up the apartment. The light from the movie highlighted your vulnerable body, curled against the arm of the couch, your eyes continued to spill tears in your sleep as your breathing hitched from time to time trying to regulate your breathing.

Morning came slowly as the sunshine tried to wake you up from what seemed like a nightmare. Rubbing the dried tears from your cheeks, you slowly opened your eyes to see the morning shadows cast throughout your apartment. Sitting up slowly, the pressure and pounding in your head brought you slowly back into reality. Knowing that you cried all night, the emotional hangover weighted your exhausted body as you leaned against the back cushions of the couch.

Turning your eyes to your phone laid amongst the cushions of the couch. You slowly reached over, grabbing your phone you moved your phone into your lap. Lighting up the phone, your eyes fell on multiple notifications. Reading the new message shown across the home screen, you brought your bottom lip between your teeth as your teeth bit your bottom lip harshly. Clicking on the message, a glint of hope that what happened last night was all just a horrific nightmare tried to push all of the negative thoughts away as you tapped the message to open.

I’m gonna give you a day so you can sort through things on your own. If you need me. I’m here. If not, I’ll talk to you tomorrow. I’m not upset, you just need a day solo.

Quickly turning your head away once you read the message, you pressed one hand against your forehead while your tears raced down your cheeks.

Throughout the day, memories continued to reel through your head, the conversations, sweet moments, adventures and romance cut your heart deeper the more you thought about them. The haze from the night before finally began to lift as the conversation the night before came to your remembrance. Tears continuously flowed throughout the hours of the day as you tried to keep yourself distracted and occupied yet you couldn’t help but shake the feeling that you just lost the most important thing in your life.

You just let go to the one thing you cared about, you loved.

Thoughts continuously bombarded your brain and your self esteem plummeted for the day, unsure of what you were going to do, what your future held now, how you were going to actually move on with not only relationships but with your life. Turning to one of your forms of self expression, you grabbed an emptied notebook and a pen as you readied yourself to just write out everything that you were feeling.

Hearing you say goodbye on the phone call made my heart break. I lost you. The necklace around my neck, that you lovingly gave me those few months ago for our one year anniversary, felt heavier and heavier as it tapped against my exposed skin. Then later you texted me a song and I listened to it. Large tears rolled down my face as I couldn’t help but know that I had lost the one thing that I truly loved.

The next morning I woke up and saw a message from you, I let the message sit all day, yet, I couldn’t stop thinking of you. Looking around and seeing all of the memories around my apartment slowly fade around us where we endlessly laughed, loved and cared for one another.

Especially the necklace part that u told me about before :(
I understand how painful it was on u but I wish that u had someone or a friend that made u forget the tears from time to time.
But that time passed and it changed now.. happy for u <3
