Matchmaking Love
One evening, shortly after they were married, Chen Xiao Xi went to the hospital to wait for her husband, Jiang Chen, to get off work. As he was still seeing patients in his office, she waited in the hospital’s central waiting area. One by one those sitting around her departed, but still she remained. Xiao Xi didn’t mind. She had her sketch book and to pass the time, she played around with several different ideas for the sequel she was plotting for the book she’d recently published. Xiao Xi was so lost in her world, she didn’t even notice when Jiang Chen’s colleague, Su Mu, plopped down next to her, her hands tucked into the large pockets of her white coat.
“Chen Xiao Xi! What are you doing sitting here? Haven’t you heard? Jiang Chen hurt himself on his way down to meet you.”
Xiao Xi jolted to attention. “What? How? Is he okay? Where is he now?” With every question, she gathered up her belongings and now stood waiting for Su Mu to reply.
“Your Jiang Chen’s fine.” Su Mu waved all concerns away with a lazy hand. “He sent me down to tell you he’s finishing up with his last patient and will be down soon.”
“What?!” Xiao Xi fell limply back into her seat, her heart still pounding. “How could you joke about something like that?”
Su Mu pouted. “I was just joking. No one ever gets my jokes.”
As quickly as her pout came, it went away. She looked over and saw the sketch book that had slipped back out of Xiao Xi’s bag. “Oh! Is that a new comic book you’re working on? I really liked your last book. The one about your friends from high school.”
Xiao Xi struggled to catch up. She was still getting over the whiplash of learning that Jiang Chen was injured and then not injured. “Um, yeah, it’s a sequel.”
“Really? That’s great. So that does that mean Wu Bo Song will appear in the new book as well?”
Xiao Xi nodded.
Su Mu inched a little bit closer and lowered her voice. “I was wondering. Do you think you could introduce me to Wu Bo Song?” When Xiao Xi looked at her curiously, she explained. “I’m a big fan of his. I’ve been following him ever since he was a member of the national swim team. When I found out he was your friend, I could hardly believe my luck. I’ve thought about asking Jiang Chen for an introduction, but . . .” In the distance, she saw Jiang Chen approaching and hurried to finish her thought. “Anyway, think about it.” She took
