Author's Note: This was written for a friend who wanted to see Jiang Chen and Xiao Xi preparing for their wedding...
Wedding Love
On Monday, Jiang Chen arrived home close to midnight and found a note waiting for him on the kitchen table. It was notifying him that Chen Xiao Xi had made an appointment at the wedding boutique for Friday, at 10 am, and he was not to be late.
On Tuesday morning, Jiang Chen was just finishing his morning rounds when his phone alerted him to an incoming text. It was from Xiao Xi who wanted to know if he’d found her note from the night before. He merely rolled his eyes and pocketed his phone without answering.
On Wednesday afternoon, Jiang Chen was standing at the nurse’s station reading over his patients’ notes when his phone started going off. Dr. Su who’d been working on her own notes next to him, asked him what was so important that he received four text messages in rapid succession. When Jiang Chen checked his phone, he saw that Xiao Xi had sent him pictures of three different wedding dresses, followed by a text asking him which style he liked best. He would’ve deleted the messages immediately, except that Dr. Su had already peeked over his shoulder and grabbed the phone from him.
“Ooh, I like this dress. Is this what Xiao Xi going to wear on your wedding day?”
Jiang Chen answered by grabbing his phone back and shoving it in his pocket. He then picked up his charts and walked away. Dr. Su looked at the nurses, who were equally surprised by his abrupt departure, and then smiled while shrugging her shoulders in question.
It wasn’t that Jiang Chen was upset about the upcoming wedding ceremony. It was more like he was tired of having to talk about it all the time.
If it had been up to him, they wouldn’t have even bothered to hold a wedding ceremony. The truth was they had already registered their marriage. After they became engaged, Jiang Chang didn’t see a point in keeping separate apartments and he eventually persuaded Xiao Xi of the same. Their parents, on the other hand, had seen things differently. They’d put their collective feet down and decreed that no child of theirs, even if they were engaged, was going to live with a member of the opposite without the benefit of a marriage license.
Their disapproval proved only a minor setback for Jiang Chen. Taking matters into his own hand, he put in leave for both himself and Xiao Xi one weekday morning and dragged her down to their local Civil Affairs Bureau office. A few hours later, they
