Author's Note

At the end of the last chapter I put a long list of behind-the-scenes extras that never made it into the fic. They were just little tidbits and notes about the characters and whatnot, stuff to help flesh out the world that wasn't necessarily important to the plot or story. Well now I have so many that I thought it would be better to just shove them at the end in one big section rather than clutter up the chapter notes with useless information lol. So below is a long list of extras that I've compiled while writing this story! I hope you enjoy it!

Original Plan

When I first decided to write this fic, the original story was that Jongdae and Baekhyun had played a prank on Chanyeol that results in him taking a love potion that causes minor uncomfortable pain to the drinker until they are kissed by their true love. This then developed into the potion making the drinker fall asleep unless kissed, much like Snow White or Sleeping Beauty, which I felt was a bit better than a prank gone wrong. Love potions are a really seedy and suspiciously untouched part of Rowling's work that opens up a lot of sinister areas that I didn't want to get into, so changing it to a sleeping potion with love-based conditions was a lot more comfortable for me to work with (and probably a lot more comfortable for you guys to read). 

I dabbled in setting the story when all the characters were in their 20s and out of school, meaning that the flashback scenes would help explore their teenage lives as well as their past romances. Tbh that might have worked a bit better, but setting it at Hogwarts appealed to my nostalgia a lot more, so I went with that instead. In this alternate story, the beagles were all aurors and Chanyeol was sent the sleeping potion disguised as a thank you gift by fugitive Death Eaters. The story would be much the same, with Baekhyun and Jongdae figuring out what the potion was, who sent it, and how to cure it.

I flip flopped between making this an enemies to lovers au SO MUCH. The original plan also had it that Kyungsoo and the beagles were all close friends. I then changed it to Kyungsoo was just another kid in their class and no one had any idea that Chanyeol was in love with him. The idea of them falling out and hating each other was a very recent addition; I even wrote in a reply to a comment on one of the earlier chapters that chansoo being enemies was 'so much hassle' or something, which just goes to show how indecisive I was with this whole thing lmao. I glad with what I went with tho, so it's all good in the end.

Classes/Subjects

This is a handy graph to show the classes the chinguline take during their sixth year. They're all N.E.W.T level classes. A green box means they're taking that subject, and a blue box means they're taking it as an elective/extra subject (as suggested or approved by the Head of House)!

Extras

- All the EXO members in this fic are either second or third-generation korean immigrants to the UK

- The chinguline all have different accents. Baekhyun lives in central London. Jongdae (and likewise Minseok) is from Sheffield and has a very midlands twang to everything he says (for reference, listen to Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys speak). Chanyeol is from a made up village in Norfolk and sounds a little bit like a farmer. Kyungsoo is originally from Kent, he has just your regular English accent i guess lol

- In addition, Luhan is Scottish (could you imagine lmao), Kris is from East London and Junmyeon just sounds very posh. Yixing is from Bristol.

- The chinguline also all have/had pets. Chanyeol couldn't take Toben with him to school so he got a miniature scops owl called Bill instead. Baekhyun had a snowy owl called Cynthia that died during their third year, and Jongdae has a toad called Brownie. Kyungsoo has a black cat called Sooty. They were all planned into the fic but i never found a place to slot them in so that's why they're not there

- Kyungsoo's parents are Unspeakables, and his grandad really was a Death Eater. They've distanced themselves from that side of the family as much as they can. Baekhyun's parents on the other hand are blood-purists, which is why he doesn't like them very much and usually spends his christmas holidays at either Chanyeol or Jongdae's place

- Minseok is allergic to broom polish and is usually seen wearing gloves because unfortunately all his friends play quidditch and there's a very high chance he could break out into a nasty rash if they touch him. It doesn't stop him from being a top notch quidditch captain however

- The captain of the Hufflepuff quidditch team is Seulgi and Hufflepuff also won the house cup the year this fic takes place (house pride ftw)

- Baekhyun is really bad at quidditch and almost blinded himself during their first flying lesson. He is however really, really good at gobstones, and has never lost a game in his life

- Sehun is dyslexic, but doesn’t know because his parents are pure-bloods and home-schooled him before he started hogwarts. If he went to a muggle primary school it probably would have got noticed right away

- Even though Jongdae and Minseok are both magic, their parents aren’t. There’s a very high chance that one of their parents, or even their grandparents, is a squib.

- Baekhyun wants to be a healer, Chanyeol wants to be a magizoologist, Kyungsoo wants to be a Potions Master, and Jongdae wants to work as a Muggle Liaison Officer in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes at the Ministry. It's a very dull profession for someone as energetic as Jongdae, but for some reason he thinks it's really interesting. His backup is to help his older brother run the family restaurant so his parents can retire

- As for the others, Luhan's dream is to play for the Montrose Magpies, the most successful quidditch team ever in the whole of Britain. Minseok wants to work for the Department of Magical Games and Sports (he doesn't think he can play professionally due to his allergies) and Yixing is hoping to become Hogwarts' Herbology professor one day. Kris wants to become an auror. Junmyeon is forever an overachiever and is aiming to become the youngest Minister for Magic in history, although the Department of Magical Law Enforcement is okay too

- The fifth years aren't quite sure what they want to do yet, but Jongin thinks he might want to play quidditch professionally

- Baekhyun's prefect job was taken over by Namjoon. Despite this they still get on well

- Chanyeol's parents were childhood sweethearts who eventually married a few years after his dad graduated Hogwarts, introducing his mum to the world of magic. A year or so after Chanyeol was born, they divorced and his dad moved to London. Chanyeol spends half the summer holidays at his dads (about 3 weeks) but the rest of the time out of school with his mum

- We know that Kyungsoo is a boss at potions, but the others have their specialities too. Jongdae is exceptional at charms, and Baekhyun is the best in their class at transfiguration. As written in the fic, Luhan is really good at Arithmancy. Minseok and Yixing are great at DADA and Herbology respectably. Junmyeon is pretty much just good at everything, which is part of the reason why he was chosen for Head Boy. As for Kris, he specialises in Astronomy and Divination (galaxy fan across all universes whaddup)

- Besides the teachers that are mentioned in the fic (Madam Victoria, Miss Luna, Professor Liu, etc) the rest of the staff and professors are all from the books. McGonagall is the Headmistress, Slughorn is the Potions Master, Hagrid is gamekeeper and Care for Magical Creatures professor, and so on. I didn't mention them by name because I'm not really sure what year this fic is set and there's a high chance a lot of them could be dead or retired, and tbh I couldn't be arsed to work out who. They are all there tho lol. This story is timeless it seems.
