Out of the TaeNy one-shots I've written, this one has to be my personal favorite since it's based off a real life experience. Without further ado, enjoy.

Ryeowook and I were friends ever since we met in high school. We got along very well and had similar interests which probably helped us click in a short amount of time. We never fought and always stayed good friends. Whenever he felt down, I always tried my best to help him feel better as a friend. I was basically his shoulder to lean on whenever he needed support. I claimed that we would always be best friends. Nothing less and nothing more…or so I thought…

As I got older, many factors were occupying my mind. College, work, and relationships seemed important to me. I even noticed that some of my friends were getting into relationships while my best friend and I stayed single since we were born. I realized that Ryeowook and I barely touched the subject of relationships. Our personalities were surprisingly similar. He and I may seem like the nonchalant type of people who didn’t like talking about love, but our true personalities were that we were hopeless romantics. It is usually believed that best friends would fall in love with each other as they grow up. I wondered if he ever had a crush in his life and it bothered me, because I wanted to know so badly. The only way I was going to find out is by personally asking him. I knew that assuming things wasn’t going to help me find out about Ryeowook’s feelings. I mustered up the courage to ask him one day.

Summer vacation gave me enough time to think about this. Thank goodness that school gave students like me a well-deserved vacation. I stayed home or went out to chill with friends on my summer break. When I stayed home, I would go on the computer and chat with people online. Right when I signed on AIM, I noticed that Ryeowook was online. I IMed him and so it began.

DorkyHorndog: Kim Ryeowook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ShyGuy: Kim Taeyeon!!!

DorkyHorndog: dude

DorkyHorndog: i have a question for you

DorkyHorndog: that's been swimming around in my mind

ShyGuy: I see

ShyGuy: shoot

DorkyHorndog: ok

DorkyHorndog: we all have been hanging out for awhile

DorkyHorndog: but like

DorkyHorndog: has there ever been anybody you liked in our circle of friends?

ShyGuy: hmm

ShyGuy: I always thought about that at times

DorkyHorndog: ok

ShyGuy: hard question xD

DorkyHorndog: LOL

DorkyHorndog: be honest

DorkyHorndog: i want to know

DorkyHorndog: i won't tell anybody

ShyGuy: I know but it’s embarrassing to answer that to girls, i can do that to guys easily

ShyGuy: lol

DorkyHorndog: haha

DorkyHorndog: just pretend i'm a dude

DorkyHorndog: i'm curious

ShyGuy: I know you are.

ShyGuy: lol

DorkyHorndog: lol

DorkyHorndog: well

DorkyHorndog: i won't tell

DorkyHorndog: i promise

ShyGuy: well back in high school

DorkyHorndog: ok

ShyGuy: i thought about it probably Sooyoung at some points but was out of my league since I was short and the guy friends we both had. So I gave up.

DorkyHorndog: i knew it

ShyGuy: people talk about it a lot

ShyGuy: back in elementary and middle school

ShyGuy: that I liked Sooyoung too

ShyGuy: lol

ShyGuy: my guys friends knew too and started teasing me

ShyGuy: heh

DorkyHorndog: LOL

ShyGuy: then Sunny

ShyGuy: came along

DorkyHorndog: idk, i had a feeling you did like Sooyoung for some reason

ShyGuy: yeah

DorkyHorndog: you liked Sunny, too?

ShyGuy: yeah

DorkyHorndog: haha

ShyGuy: small

ShyGuy: same height

ShyGuy: allot of same interest and taste

ShyGuy: *alot

DorkyHorndog: do you like anybody atm though?

ShyGuy: secret.

DorkyHorndog: aww what?

DorkyHorndog: so you do like somebody right now

ShyGuy: been thinking about relationship but its out of my mind mostly now

ShyGuy: lol

DorkyHorndog: dude

DorkyHorndog: you make me want to know so badly though D:

DorkyHorndog: i promised you that i wouldn't tell anybody

ShyGuy: I been thinking about school and family a lot lately

DorkyHorndog: i understand

ShyGuy: and my future career

ShyGuy: lol

DorkyHorndog: seriously, man!

DorkyHorndog: i really won't tell anybody! =0

ShyGuy: lies well I have to go to work now

DorkyHorndog: yeah right

DorkyHorndog: psh

DorkyHorndog: seriously

ShyGuy: really do have to go heh maybe after

DorkyHorndog: i won't tell anybody

DorkyHorndog: sigh

DorkyHorndog: ok

ShyGuy: my work

ShyGuy: maybe

DorkyHorndog: but thanks for opening up

DorkyHorndog: good luck at work

ShyGuy: i need it

Ryeowook got off work at 10PM. However, going online again was useless. My mom placed a computer ban on me, so I couldn’t go on the computer. The reason why I was able to go online earlier was that I got permission to go on only once a day. Thank goodness for texting, because it was the only way left to contact Ryeowook. I went into my secluded living room and texted him. I had a quirky habit of lying down on my blue carpet while texting. My family members would pass by me and give me WTF stares, but that was how I rolled. The suspense was killing me, so I texted as fast as I could. My text message read:

“Mr. Kim! You told me that you would tell me who you currently like after you got off work! Tell me! D:<”

I sent the text message wishing that he would respond quickly. I wanted to know who he liked. About two minutes have passed and he finally responded:

“Ms. Kim, it’s a secret.”

If I was standing next to Ryeowook, then I would have smacked him silly. I immediately sent him another text:

“What the Hell? I thought we were friends! I promise that I won’t tell anybody! How many times do I need to tell you that?”

I thought that he was willing to tell me. Why was it so hard for him to tell me who he liked? He could save the trouble and time by telling me straight up. Instead, he texted:

“I told you. It’s a secret.”

He was starting to grind my gears, so I threatened him playfully:

“Tell me who it is! If you don’t tell me, then I’m going to steal your Pillsbury Doughboy doll from your car and you’re going to have a hard time finding your car in the parking lot!”

There was obviously no way I was going to steal his doll from his car that instant, but I would be willing to do so one day if I managed to get inside of his car and raid it.

“Fine. To be honest, I don’t like anybody right now. Happy?”

It didn’t even have to take a lie detector to determine whether Ryeowook was telling the truth or not, because he was certainly giving me false information.

“Rigggggggggggght…then what was that hype about considering this a secret?”

I tried really hard to corner him as much as I could. Even though this conversation was taking place in a texting session, I could sense the dishonesty in his text messages. He was taking longer than usual to text me back and I wondered why. I tapped my fingers on the carpet to portray the impatience that grew every moment I was waiting for his texts.

“I seriously don’t like anybody! Ok? Honestly speaking, I gave up on relationships. I’m waiting for the female side to approach me first. You know me. I’m too nice of a guy. :0”

This conversation wasn’t helping me in any way and I was getting tired of the way Ryeowook was handling the situation. I placed my hand over my forehead and felt my temperature. My forehead was burning up with rage that it could become a nice fire ring for devils to live in. I took a deep breath and attempted to calm down. Without giving up, I texted him back once more:

“I admit. You’re a considerate guy and all. Ok, back to the topic. I have a feeling that you’re lying to me. Just spit it out, man! >:0”

I understood the fact that revealing crushes was a touchy subject, but he left me hanging. Having a curious nature, I wanted to know. I got a reply back and when I read it, I scoffed. It read:

“Fine. Who do you like?”

Now Ryeowook was challenging me and I was disappointed that he tried to stray away from the topic. Every time he ran away from the topic, I would always drive him back to the point. I answered back:

“Tbh, no guy has ever caught my eyes. Now tell me. Who do you like?”

I couldn’t count how many times I asked “Who do you like?” and this showed me how much Ryeowook didn’t want to reveal his “crush”. At this point during the texting session, I felt bad for badgering him, but my curiosity got the best of me. I didn’t want to give up especially when I was a step closer to the answer.

“I don’t like anybody. I’m being honest, ok? Stop wasting your text on this unless you have unlimited! This conversation would have been better on AIM.”

I didn’t care if my texting quota was going to be used up, because I was far from reaching the limit. It was evident that he didn’t want to talk about this anymore. I thought about stop asking him the same question over and over. He would never answer me no matter how many times I would ask. I figured that this was not going to work out, so I challenged him instead:

“I think I know who you like.”

That was one risky text I wrote, but I sent it with confidence. I made it this far, so I was not going to throw in the white flag. There was no turning back and I was ready to tackle anything in my way.

“Dare?”
