Part 1

Unforeseen Encounter

" this sentence!" He whisper-shouted since it was a little late, he didn’t want the neighbours to hear him.

"How the fricking hell do I translate this?!" He said irritated.

While he tried to find good alternative in his language, only to come up with nothing, he lost his patience, and he had a lot of that.

He slammed the desk lightly, stood up from the chair and went to the living room. He sat on the old, sagging sofa.

Translating was not only hard and time-consuming, it also required a great amount of patience and good knowledge of not only the language you are translating from but also to the one you translate into. Yeah, all kinds of requirements but it wasn't all that bad after some experience. Though occasionally he still would stumble across words and sentences he wasn't sure how to translate so it didn't sound horrible and was quite natural for the reader.

It was now the ing third time he came across something like that in this one project he translated for mere 30 minutes. It was annoying as hell, no kidding. And no, half an hour isn't a long time for translating. Moreover he got stuck already twice in this 30 minutes which meant he lost minimum of five minutes trying to come up with good alternative, if not more. Meaning that he was irritated to his core. There still was work for maybe two hours if he didn't get stuck again and he was sure he would come across another fricking hard to translate word. His patience just ran thin and he couldn't bother to continue nor find the motivation to do so.

After some pondering, he decided to get some fresh air as he threw light jacket on himself and after grabbing the keys that laid on the shoe cabinet, he quickly left his apartment.

What met him as he opened the main door was nice, chilly breeze of the evening. His work forgotten as he strolled through the small town with no destination in mind.

After some time, as he grew a little tired from the walking, he found nice and empty bench on the side of the road. He sat down on one end and watched as cars occasionally went by. It was quite calming and his mind was free from all bothersome thoughts. He didn't even register that somebody sat next to him, only after the male spoke did he notice. It made him jump a little since he hadn't expected someone to be there.

"Hello," the male repeated after only being stared on, "sorry for startling you."

Kibum quickly came to his senses, when the other apologized and replied a little hastily, "Ah, that's alright, I was just lost in thoughts and didn't notice you."

"Well, still I'm sorry," the male smiled before he continued, "What were you thinking about, if I may ask?"

"Ah... Nothing really, just clearing my mind?" Kibum wasn't sure how to reply to this stranger's question since he wasn't really thinking about anything in particular. What a precarious situation he was in.

"I see..." he paused seemingly thinking, "Would it be rude if I asked your name?"

Kibum was a little stunned, what did this person want from him? It wasn't that he was uncomfortable sharing his name, it was just that the situation itself was a little weird.

"My name is Minho, by the way." He added right away when he noticed the other hesitate.

"Well, I'm Kibum." Minho held out his hand to the other male. Kibum took it, albeit a little hesitantly.

"Nice to meet you, Kibum." He said as he smiled. Kibum replied with 'likewise'.

They now became acquaintances to Kibum's delight and despair. He wasn't sure why but Kibum believed this was a start of something more than just one-time encounter on the streets.

"Can I ask why were you clearing your mind?" Kibum knew this was start of a long, long conversation.

"Uhm, just got stuck while translating something..." He replied somewhat vaguely.

"Ooh, you're a translator?" Minho seemed to be interested in this topic.

"Well, not exactly..." Kibum continued to be vague for whatever reason he didn't really know.

"So a side-job, maybe?" Minho didn't seem to lose interest. Kibum shook his head, it also wasn't that.

"Unfortunately, it's just my hobby." Minho's eyes seemed to sparkle just for a second, Kibum not aware of that.

"Ooh, that's admirable!" Minho exclaimed.

"I depend on such people." Kibum's ears perked up at this. Minho is also one of the people he translates for?

"Really?" His became suddenly interested in the other. He wanted to know if maybe, just maybe, the male is also one of his loyal followers in one of his projects.

"Yup, I really like the translator Key," Kibum's heartbeat sped up as the other said his ID under which he translated, "all his works are done with such great care and he knows what to choose."

"I've seen all the projects he translated." He paused before finally asking the fated question.

"Do you perhaps know him?" Kibum's cheeks and ears became the colour of the red sky as his heart was about to explode. This was the first time someone, although unknowingly, praised his work in real life. He was used to comments filled with praise but he couldn't know if that was just empty words or if they meant it, he was still grateful, though. But now, without even asking or hinting at it, this very person on his left said such praise, no less to his very face.

"You okay?" Minho asked concerned a little when the other didn't reply for a long time and noticed the other's blushed face, thinking he was getting a fever or something.

"Yeah, sorry, I was little overwhelmed with your praise." Minho was confused for a short while but quickly put two and two together.

"No way!" He stood up abruptly, "You are the Key?!" Putting stress on the word ‘the’.

Kibum was a little startled by his sudden action but nodded, nonetheless. He was shy to acknowledge he was indeed the Key who the other just praised but also a little happy his efforts were getting appreciated.

"You're kidding me..." Minho sat again on the bench, not looking away from the other. "I always wanted to meet you in person and thank you for all the hard work you do with translating." Kibum was getting overwhelmed with all sorts of emotions, his eyes tearing just a bit.

"Just so you know, my ID is Turtleman and I always make sure to comment on every single post." He finally met his 'idol', he HAD to brag. Pretty sure that any other person would do the same.

Kibum was familiar with that username, it really did appear on every single post he put out, making him wonder what the person on the other end was like as he commented the moment it was uploaded most of the time, opposite of his very ID. He reflected since he thought the other was little kid with nothing better to do. He shouldn't discriminate.

"I know that name." At Kibum's short reply, the other couldn't help and show his pearl-white teeth as he grinned excitedly. It was unreal that the one he admired online was in front of him now.

As they talked about all kinds of things, they haven't even noticed the sky darkening. Only when Minho's phone rang did they realize it was already 9PM. When the taller male finally finished his phone conversation, Kibum stood up.

"I should go back now." After three hours of talking, he finally remembered he had things to do. While waiting for the other to respond, he put his weight on one leg.

"OK, I also have to go." Minho said standing up, "Good luck with the translation and see you again." He smiled at the other and waving as he went his way.

"See you." Kibum waved back and also went back home.

♦♦♦

"I'm home!" He said to the empty apartment. He threw his keys on the shoe cabinet as they mingled with few other ones. After he took off his shoes and jacket, he washed his hands and went to grab some food. He sat in the living room and watched the TV as he ate.

When he was done, he threw the dirty dishes in the sink. He let the TV play and went to his room where his project waited for him. He sat in the chair and with newfound motivation started translating. He now knew for sure that people appreciate the hard work he puts in each project he picks up. It made him smile a little and put him in a good mood. He now knew that at the end would be several grateful people. Just this much was enough for him, just knowing he was helping at least one person was rewarding and his mood was intact until he grew tired and decided to call it a day.

He closed his project that wasn't even one third finished and turned his computer off. Then he went to wash his face and brush his teeth and finally went to bed half an hour after midnight.

He still had a lot of translating to do but his good mood would last him at least a few days so it wouldn't be all that bad. He drifted off to sleep with smile on his lips and thoughts that let him have good dreams.

Next part will be up in few hours, maybe. :)

It's done and all, just have to read through it again and correct any typos or weird wording.
