A day as any other

Hyukjae comes always first home. He gets mad at me all the time because I´m a workaholic and lose the perception of time quite often, coming home overly late.

When I walk toward the apartment building, I can see the light in the living room of our place on the 10th floor and sometimes even Hyukjae´s thin figure in the window.

The curtains are always open when Hyukjae is alone at home because he has the habit of stopping by the window and looking out if he can possibly see me coming. Not once have our eyes met when I was walking down the dark street.

When I get home, Hyukjae closes the curtains on habit again. He says that our flat isn´t a mall display. I always chuckle, thinking that the curtains have been open the whole time before my arrival anyway.

It was 31st of October and I was once again late. I sighed deepely, already preparing myself for another scolding from Hyukjae. When I was walking the street, I looked up into the brightly lit room of our flat. A figure passed by the window, it wasn´t thin.

I stopped walking for a moment, did we have a visitor? I frowned and picked up the pace again, rushing toward the front door. I felt off about everything, Hyukjae wouldn´t have left the curtains open if he had a company. Our place when lit was like a show window, after all.

I didn´t have the patience to wait for the elevator, somebody called it up to the 10th floor. I ran to the staircase and took the steps three at once. I had a very bad feeling that I couldn´t supress by no means. Perhaps, it was nothing, perhaps, he just forgot to close the curtains.

Gritting my teeth, I barged on the hallway and rushed to the door number 4 of our apartment. I grabbed the handle but it was broken, the door wasn´t locked and I could feel my hairs bristle. Hyukjae, where is Hyukjae?!

“Hyuk?” I called loudly from the entrance before diving into my own home carefully.
