One More Thing Lost

Amber's eyes fluttered open and she looked up at the wagon ceiling. She could feel the bed moving beneath her, and she felt disoriented: the last thing she remembered, she was thinking that she was dying as she lost conciousness in a cavern full of dragon eggs! She moved to sit up, and let out a cry as pain lanced through her side. Well, then it wasn't a dream, but why wasn't she fully healed? She settled back on the bed, allowing the pain to pass, and a moment later the door opened.

Jinwoo stepped inside the wagon, concern lacing his handsome face as he looked down at her. "Don't move too much, you were really badly injured," he said softly, coming to sit on the edge of the bed.

"You couldn't heal me?" she asked through gritted teeth, feeling ungrateful for asking but truly wondering why he hadn't done it.

And he shook his head regretfully. "Not fully, not in one go. I didn't have enough power. I still don't," he added in a grumble. "I expended so much just casting the Seal on the eggs. But I healed what I could and I will continue to do so until you're good as new."

She nodded stiffly: that made sense. "So you did it, then? You destroyed the eggs?"

Darkness passed over his face and he nodded, unable to hide the sadness he felt at his actions. "I did. They're all sealed, and that makes them unable to hatch."

He was hiding something, she thought, but she couldn't pinpoint what so let it pass. "Can your spell be reversed?" she asked, to which he shook his head.

"Only by a Magician who knows how the Seal of Creation works... which means someone who trained in the Towers and is loyal to them. So in other words, they can only ever hatch if the Tower wishes them to."

She wasn't so sure she liked that idea, giving the Towers of Noria the power to unleash dragons if they so willed it, but she said nothing about it. "Where are we?" she asked instead.

"On our way back to the Needle Gate," he informed her. "You've been asleep for three and a half days after we reached the wagon again." He held a small cup up to her lips. "Here, drink this, it will help with the pain."

They set off again soon after that, Amber falling asleep to the constant motion of the wagon and the draught he had given her. By the time she reawakened, she was healed a bit more and Jinwoo was sleeping beside her. It continued like this as they traveled, the days passing to a drug-addled mind and him working at healing her each evening and each morning after his sunrise greeting. It was on the sixth morning after awakening that she realized she felt well enough to get up.

Knocking on the wall of the wagon to signal him to stop, she slid to the edge of the bed and carefully stood to her feet. Her legs were a bit shaky from over

Chapter 15: WHAT THE...!? Okay I was not expecting ALOT of stuff in this epilogue. Firstly, Jinwoo lied! How could he do that to Amber? >:{
Yeah, I guess his loyalty is first and foremost with the Tower. Next, he really thinks that bringing back the dragon eggs will be a good idea? Yeah, I agree with him that it was wrong to get rid of an entire race, especially one that's so majestic and elegant like the dragons -- but that also means he went against orders. So he's not entirely loyal? LIKE WHAT!?
And third -- WHAT!!!? How did they find him? The Emperor MUST have rogue Magicians on his side. There can't be any other way that he is found. Not to mention, that no-good Emperor will not only have his dirty hands on the godslaying spear, but also on the last remaining dragon eggs, dammit. And if he DOES have a Magician by his side, then that means he will break that flipping Seal that Amber and Jinwoo worked so hard to create! >:{{{

I feel all empty inside, even more than before. On the other hand, I love the Calceryn series. I think the Obarsan stories are my favourite from the lot. It's a continent where alot of stuff happens. Maybe I should go back to read Cerdin's Cairn again?? But I'm not sure if that will give me any answers. Like is that murderer in the end Himchan? I could be wrong! I'm left here begging for more D:
That aside, that was superb storytelling, amazing descriptions and a well-thought out magic system. Another gem in the making, Tigress.

(Promise, here I come!)

Chapter 13: I feel so empty :(( Maybe because a part of me knew that they would never happen? I mean, Jinwoo is a Magician, the Tower will most likely assign him other missions when he comes back. And Amber really needs to get back home, and return to a life where she doesn't have to watch her back for once.
The spear-sword thing getting lost reminds of the legends again. Maybe a new hero will come in the future, and the weapon will reveal itself to them! Amber's purpose was really to help Jinwoo and now her part is done . :(
As for the Tower, I will mention that I'm beginning to like them less and less...It's like they're keeping the dragons there for a future war or something. I thought they really were going to Depths of Reason for the greater good -- but really that's just Jinwoo's POV. It appears to me that the Tower is more political than I first assumed.

Chapter 12: Really Amber??? There was no love involved? ;) I feel like if she asked Jinwoo, he would give her a different answer -- he just seems to be the sort of person who would be a bit more emotional than her. In any case, I'm a bit excited to know where this will go, because our heroes have finally found the Depths of Reason. I'm also happy that you wrote Amber as being the wiser one in this situation and figuring out the area was the Depths of Reason before Jinwoo! In your face, Magician xD

Damn, that Answar dude has all his cards set in the right place. Hundreds and hundreds of eggs? Now he's being too greedy xD Hahah. Btw, I really like this guy even though we never get to see him in action as readers. He's such a good villain (or antagonist in this case since we are only introduced to him via Amber and Jinwoo's POVs). The ending fight there is intense. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Amber to survive!

Chapter 11: DAYYUM, my man Jinwoo! Go for it XDD Lol, I forgot what I was going to write because of that ending hahah. I suppose their little conversations are so genuine and lovely. I think Amber missed out on that -- talking with a guy close to her age and about normal things like dreams of the future and fears from their past. It definitely built up the tension for that romantic ending ;)

Chapter 10: The burial was very sad. I'm glad I didn't get too attached to the other caravaners because then I'd be bawling right now. Jinyoung's demise came as a bit of a shock, with him gone, will that stop the other caravaners from hunting down Jinwoo? Technically speaking, Jinwoo is no longer under Jinyoung's contract for protection -- they could hunt him down for what he did. Hopefully, they will respect Amber's decision in aiding him and leave them alone.

Jinwoo speaking of the dragons has me double minded. I thought the Tower was good, but reading over this now, the dragons are just another creature that lacks a conscience to our level. Eliminating dragons isn't going to solve the Tower's problem -- their actual problem lies with the people who want to exploit the dragons . Besides, with the dragon's gone, I'm sure these perpetrators will find another means by which to carry out their plans!

But Amber's words are heavy about the consequences. War really is a place full of tough choices. :((

Chapter 9: <span class='smalltext text--lighter'>Comment on <a href='/story/view/1284145/9'>Three and Thirty</a></span>
Is Jinwoo being playful with Amber up there? Harr harr, I see what you did there ;))

Anyways, back to the action, my heart was beating louder than Amber's when I read that the dragons were approaching. I forgot that Jinwoo unleashing his powers in the sandstorm would send a signal out to people who are after him. And to think it was the dragon people themselves -- that caught me off guard. I expected raiders or some other hooligans but not the Emperor's soldiers! Yikes D:

HOLY MOLY that was some insane writing, I truly enjoyed reading how Jinwoo used his powers, to Amber's breathtaking fighting abilities. She's so good that it hurts! I love female characters that are good in sword fighting T.T The way the riders use the dragons is very interesting. Do they also put them under a spell? I'm in awe -- and what did Jinwoo do with that dragon in the end!? I'm going for 2 suggestions, either he's breaking them out of Answar's spell/magic, or he's putting on a spell instead.

Chapter 8: Jinwoo is giving me the creeps now. I suppose having so much power is really a frightening thing for someone who has no magical capabilities. For sure, I'm also a bit curious about Jinyoung -- I thought he was a regular guard but now I'm curious.
Wow, Amber's sword O_o I don't know what to say. I love how the loose ends are finally coming together.

Chapter 7: I laughed when Amber asked Jinwoo if hitting him enchanted her xD That was a bit funny. Anyways, I do agree that he seems as harmless as a kitten, but it's still a bit weary trying to hobble around a Magician. I mean, he can read minds O_o
Now, I'm trying to make parallels with Taekwoon's ability from Cursed and The Blood Towers, but if I'm correct, is there a fourth form of magic (which I presumed was talking to animals?) -- but Jinwoo can do that already it seems. I wonder who is actually stronger in terms of tapping into magic: Jinwoo or Taekwoon?

I feel like Amber is no longer the main character in the story. She is like the reader now, a spectator of something greater -- the war between the emperor with the dragons and the Magicians. Onwards!

Chapter 6: I really like the Magicians ;_; They sort of remind me of the Aes Sedai but to them, they are going out there for the greater good. The Aes Sedai were just manipulative women who wanted to control the politics in the world. Well, I wonder if Amber will consider joining Jinwoo for his cause because he is essentially ending the task that she wanted to start years ago.

Chapter 5: My suspicions are CONFIRMED! I really like the subtle hints you left about Jinwoo's true identity before. also, I'm very surprised as I thought he was hiding it but it turns out everyone bar Amber knows who he is. Now I'm REALLY curious as to why he is here, and if he wants to find something in the ancient city.
Man, the quote from FF Type 0 makes me feel very sad and with remorse because this story was made for my contest and then I left the site due to personal problems :( I'm so glad you didn't stop writing this because it's a masterpiece! I love the writing, the descriptions and dare I say, Jinwoo is suddenly y now HAHA because a man with magic is an attractive man to me xD

Time to brace myself for the imminent battle he mentioned! I wonder who could be after him.
