Jungkook forcefully closed his laptop, looking so done with how his brain seemed to be malfunctioning these past few days. He tried.. he really tried squeezing it to let even the simplest words out, but even a ton cup of coffee nor a dozen chocolate bars plus a countless bang on his head didn’t suffice. He was totally out of ideas to write: tried fiction, mystery, sci-fi he had no experience yet, and even tried looking for famous celebrity ships or couples nowadays to make a seemingly out of context fanfiction, one he had no plans on venturing through ever since his writing career started.

He let himself be absorbed by his ergonomically-designed swivel chair as he slapped his forehead for times he couldn’t count as if words would automatically display themselves on the screen of his laptop, but he’s well aware he was just hurting himself.

“I’m hopeless.” Sighing, he whispered. Last night he thought he was losing his mind and even considered calling a doctor, but he knows that that good friend of him since highschool would only tell him the same diagnosis: a severe case of writer’s block.

To be honest, he doesn’t care about anything at all right now. All he really wanted was to write even a single chapter, or even just paragraphs for a good start, he must say, for he haven’t written anything yet for two months.

If he goes through this way, he knows he can loose the deal with the publishing company that offered him more than what he gets with his current job, which, if he would be honest, he considers as his last hope. He never really liked being a store manager, and maybe the constant scolding he receives from the owner of the store chains was enough to tell him that he’s getting fired soon.

He already formulated a head-turning plot involving a real life horror story where all he needed to do left is to go to the exact place where it all happened to fix his setting, but after watching ‘Sinister’ a few months ago, he rather the not. Just the thought of going through the same thing even without his own family yet creeps his whole being.

Well, that’s the problem of a person with a wide imagination. Sometimes, he really confuses things with reality.

Jungkook was about to close his eyes for a quick nap, thinking that maybe it would help his drained self, but his phone suddenly lit up accompanied by a voice recording he set as his ringtone. Without any thought, he grabbed it, pressed the green button, and put the phone up his ear.

“I’ve been here at your door for half an hour. What’re you doing?” Judging from the voice and with the attitude of not saying ‘Hello’ before anything else, he already knew who it was.

Sighing to himself, he stood up and whispered ‘Wait’ before hanging up. He made his way towards the door of his unit, lazily walking with tired steps while making annoying sounds with his panda slippers as he yawned. How can he not hear the sound of the doorbell? Maybe he was really that preoccupied.

Twisting the doorknob, he carefully opened the door revealing a cheeky smile. Unknowingly he started smiling to himself, thinking how that single expression from that certain person can change his mood in a split second.

Without a word, his visitor walked towards his living room and grabbed the remote control of his windows’ curtains. Pressing one of the two buttons, that person gasped at the view no matter how narrow the space was though she had seen it a lot of times already and even when she also has the same night view of the city lights on her own unit beside his.

Yuna hurriedly grabbed the plastic of beer she brought with her as she sat by the corner of the glass window which extends from the floor to the ceiling and opened a single can, crunching her face in the process as the sound of the forming bubbles reached her ears. She knew how good it would taste and how nice it would feel if she would gulp that tempting drink, but there’s no way she would let herself be drunk in front of him again.

Stretching her arms out, she handed the drink to Jungkook who sat on her opposite crossing his legs in the process, to which he gladly accepted. He was just a few inches away, but neither of them really cared to point it out.

“It’s one of those nights again, hmm?” Yuna started, observing his tired visage and the dark circles under his eyes. Nodding his head, Jungkook whispered a soft hum before gulping a good amount of the beverage.

The way his throat moved as he gulped the liquid triggered the thirst in Yuna’s system, but she knows how bad of a drinker she is, and her only hope, which is her bestfriend, lives far enough to even sing for her to sleep. Aside from that, she wouldn’t afford to let themselves be drunk at the same time. Who knows what miracle could happen in one night? And who would take care of this guy once the alcohol took effect on him?

“Yeah. It’s one of these nights...” Jungkook didn’t know what has gotten into him to change his mood fast, but there’s always something in him that wants himself to be at least funny whenever he’s with that girl who’s always in a red or black sweater. “I just woke up from a dream..” Though he doesn’t really sing, he opted to sing the first line of his favorite song to listen to whenever he’s alone, earning a chuckle from Yuna.

“To find that sad star is so far away again..” The girl continued with the second line, tapping his chin with her palm as she sang to the words ‘sad star’.

“Do I look like a star to you? Last time I checked, my face never had five corners.” Jungkook answered instead of singing the next lines, wishing to hear a single chuckle from her this time. Hugging her knees as she felt the slight shade of cold through her fingertips, Yuna tilted her head to get a good view of his face.

“A star.. no. But sad?” Forming her lips into a thin line, she rested her chin on her knees, eyes fixed on the older guy. “I think, yeah.”

“Sad? Nah. Just frustrated, I guess.” The guy answered with the softest voice he could speak out, gulping another good amount from the can after. “What about you? That’s your favorite black top, right? You already look like a clothe hanger unlike last time.”

“Says the person who looks like his slippers. Say that again and I’ll shove all these beers through your mouth at once.” Jungkook just let out a laugh despite her threat. No matter how deadly her words are, he knows how good of a heart she has. Out of all the people he met, she’s a candidate on the kindest ones.. unless one will have the nerve to hurt anyone she thinks is innocent. “It’s just stress. Almost lost my job ‘cause people at my workplace think I’m way too good, and that I’m not worthy at all for an early promotion. They did all sorts of things to make me fail, and said all the words they can to make me look bad.”

“We actually have both jobs as our problem.. but I think I’ll loose mine soon.” Jungkook offered her a sip of the beverage knowing how stressed out she must be, but she just waved her hand while shaking her head. Instead, she shifted unto him closer, keenly listening to every word that’ll come out of his mouth. “But.. no worries. I never really liked my job, to be honest, but that helped me a lot. It’s just a loss and..I’m more fine with writing. I mean, there are.. more opportunities that’ll come once you push through with what you really like, right?”

Jungkook felt like it was forced for he wasn’t really sure with walking through the path he really wants. With his mind clouded with thousands of what-ifs, he can’t even get to push through any idea to formulate. Maybe that was the reason he can’t even write a single sentence: he needs to sort out all the other options and possibilities first.

“It’s funny how we always reason out including the word ‘just’ as if what we’re going through is a small thing, have you noticed?” Yuna spoke in a gentle way, ready to dig deeper through her midnight thought. It was almost 11 in the evening indicating that another day will come in an hour, but here they are, still in the midst of a conversation they do not know where will it head to instead of being in the midst of having a good sleep. “‘Just frustrated..’; ‘Just stress.’; ‘Just a loss’.. as if we can handle the feeling the same way as how small they seem when we nonchalantly talk about ‘em.”

“If only we could, Yuna..” Jungkook whispered, opening another can of beer after tossing the one he had emptied somewhere. If only they had the choice not to succumb to the feeling of frustration, or to any other feeling that can hinder their happiness or their contentment, or if only they do not have to go through those feelings at all, then maybe there wasn’t the need to feel as if they carry their weight on their own chest.

“If only it was as simple as the word ‘just’..” He sighed for the nth time, then shifted his attention towards the damsel in distress. “You really don’t wanna drink?”

“Nah. You can’t handle drunk Yuju, stupid.” Yuna stated in a defensive tone, referring to the persona she introduced herself as one time.

But..

It was too inviting. The can was just an inch away, glistening right in front of her eyes as if it was secretly telling her to disobey her mind just this once. Giving in to temptation, she grabbed the one Jungkook just opened. “But if you’re persistent, , why not?”

“Hell yeah!” The guy cheered as the younger straight up swallowed the content in one gulp. Now, they switched roles. Unlike Yuna’s plan to take care of Jungkook once he gets drunk, the former knows he’ll automatically reduce his intake to care for her once the alcohol hit her s

Chapter 13: I couldn't just go without leaving a comment in this masterpiece. Seriously, I really didn't want it to end. This chapter was so sweet and you paid attention to a lot of details, which made the story richer. I loved it so much. I think if they dated in real life it would be really similar to this. The care, the teasing, the fear, the excitement, them being comprehensive with each other. Thank you so much for writing this and making me smile while fantasizing about my impossible OTP. As a buddy, I'm having such a hard time right now and reading this helped me calm down a bit.
Jungkook is so cute, seriously. I can just imagine both of them looking at each other lovingly through the screen.
And about your note, I also feel very sad about this tag being dead. I also write yukook fics sometimes, but it's in my mother language and my stories are the only ones in the tag 😭
Anyway, thank you again for this. Your writing is beautiful ♡ I hope you never stop creating beautiful stories.

Chapter 1: I'm a little bit confused about the ending of ch1. Does he care about her? If he does, then why is he abusing her ?
I like this concept of making a one shot per song. It's pretty cool!
