Chapter 4

The Second One

Bora kept walking, ignoring Hoya who was trailing behind her. He wanted to talk to her, but she was in no mood for his nonsense. She had nothing she wanted to do with Hoya.

"Bora noona!" Hoya yelled, and Bora stopped on her tracks.

The two were currently backstage in M!Countdown and Hoya had gathered a lot of attention by just yelling out a call at her. Defeated, she let out a fake smile as she noticed a camera filming them.

"Hoya!" She faked excitement, and went near the younger. "What's up?"

"Nothing, noona. Let's talk, okay?"

Bora nodded and followed Hoya to their waiting room. As soon as she closed the door behind her, she sighed.

"What do you want, Hoya?"

Hoya chuckled, and sat down on the couch, "My name is not Hoya."

"I know that, Howon. Now, what do you want?"

"My name is not Howon either, Bora-ya."

Bora sighed and rolled her eyes, "What exactly do you want and mean, Mr. Whatever?"

Hoya walked up to Bora and looked straight into her eyes, "My name is Lee Hodong, Yoon Bora. Remember me?"

Bora entered the house she shared with Sunggyu to find it pitch-black. The lights were all turned off and it looked like no one was home. That was weird, since Sunggyu was supposed to be home. She felt her way across the living room, searching for the light switch.

"Sunggyu?" Bora called, and instantly got herself pushed down on the sofa.

"Hey, tabloid face. You're home!" Sunggyu jeered down at her, and she couldn't help but feel scared. He reeked of alcohol, and even in the darkness, he looked like a mess.

"You alright?" She softly asked. He was still pressing her down against the couch, but she knew he was just acting under alcohol and his newfound aggression.

"You two made quite a show this afternoon. It's all over the news. 'Bora noona! Hoya! Let's talk!' Wow, what a pair!" Sunggyu mocked, mimicking the video of Hoya and Bora which was all over the Internet.

Bora stared at him, unable to say anything. Her mind was a slur of events and her heart was speaking different languages at the moment. She didn't quite know how to react to anything.

All of a sudden, Sunggyu let her free and pulled her into his embrace. The both of them stayed there cuddled on the couch, hugging each other tight.

"Why did you cry?" Sunggyu asked, Bora's hair.

Bora had forgotten how observant Sunggyu was. Of course he would notice how red her eyes were and how puffy her cheeks were from crying all evening.

"I... want you to know something. About me, about my past," Bora said all of a sudden.

"What is it?" He asked, pulling away from the hug and resting his head on her lap. He took her left hand and caressed it, waiting for her to continue.

"Back when I was in middle school, I had experienced love. It all began when this guy named Lee Hodong first came to school."

Hoya walked up to Bora and looked straight into her eyes, "My name is Lee Hodong, Yoon Bora. Remember me?"

"What are you talking about?!" Bora shouted. His name itself brought back memories she never wanted to remember.

Hoya rolled up his sleeves and showed her a burnt mark, smiling sadly, "Remember how I had burnt my hand while we were cooking for my mother, Bora? I am Hodong, trust me." Bora couldn't help but go back in time. Something like that did happen, and Hodong did have that burnt mark on his hand.

She looked into his eyes, and sure enough, it was him. His eyes which stood out to her even in the dark, which spoke to her without a sound, had always told her who he was. She was just too dense to notice it.

Bora gasped, as tears streamed down her cheeks. She hated it, she hated how she still loved Hodong, how she still wanted him, how she still missed him, how he could still make her cry for him after all those years.

"How... I thought you were... I thought you died..."

"No, I didn't. I was a coward, but I was never a dickhead, Bora. I moved, I had dreams, I had you. I grew up, I changed my name, I pursued my dream and here I am."

Bora cried, making herself messy out of frustration and longing for the man in front of him.

"Bora..." Hoya called out to her, caressing her cheeks. "Don't push me away. We deserve our own happy ending. Whatever happened back then should change nothing."

"Hoya... I..." Bora talked between hiccups, pulling on her hair out of frustration. She still loved Hodong, she couldn't deny it. Her heart still beat for him, and the feeling was stronger than she thought it'd be.

"I swear I know you still love me," Hoya whispered.

Tempted, Bora crashed her lips on his, savoring the unique taste of him. The tears that followed spoke of nostalgia, longing and young love.

"We were young, we clicked well, we fell in love."

Bora smiled, reminiscing her old days with Hodong. She ran her fingers gently through Sunggyu's hair who was staring at nowhere in particular.

"He didn't have his father and his mother was suffering from skin cancer when I met him. His mother was everything he had, and everything that kept him going in life. And then there was me, he used to say."

"He was an amazing dancer and very popular in school. He wanted to grow up to be a dancer. I wanted to be by his side while he did so. But then all of it just had to be ruined. One day, there was a death in school. Much like a suicidal case. A student had probably jumped off the school building. But few students testified that they had seen Hodong do it, few said Hodong had personal problems with the student. Police, however, cleared his name saying it was a suicidal case after all. Even though he was proven to be innocent, students were not ready to believe it. School became really hard for the once-popular Hodong. I stayed loyal by his side, of course."

Bora stopped to look at Sunggyu, who now had his eyes closed. But she was pretty sure he was still listening.

"Only about a month later, a girl in school got . The girl in question, who was a timid and shy nerd, said it was Hodong who did something that horrible to her. She probably said it only to avoid being the centre of attention and so that she was seen as a victim alone, but people took her seriously. Again, I never believed them. Hodong swore he never did anything like that. Everyone believed her, Hodong was expelled. He was now seen as a murder and a . His mother lived with the shock and died months later. Shortly after, some students found a suicidal note from Hodong and he was gone. Lee Hodong was gone, just like that. Nobody found him dead or alive, he had disappeared. That was the last I heard from him. I was broken, shattered, I couldn't move on. But then you came, and I loved again."

Bora looked down at Sunggyu, whose eyes fluttered open. He looked at Bora for a minute, and asked, "Why did you tell me all that?"

"He is back. Hoya is Hodong, and I somehow never realised the one person who taught me how to love while he was right in front of me all along."

"And now that he is back..." Sunggyu said, jolting upright and gripping Bora's hands firmly. "Wi-will you l-leave me?"
