Foreword
Yukiko's POV:
I kicked at the ground again, all hope lost.
How could this happen to me?! That was my fourth pair!
Sighing, I gave up trying to search for my glasses. What was the point, anyway? I could barely see what was in front of me.
I wanted to kick something.
"OW!"
I froze, eyes widening. Did I...Did I just kick someone? Curiously, I stretched out my hand to see if anyone was there. I touched a smooth warm fabric. A smooth warm breathing fabric.
"Uh...I suppose you're touching my stomach for a reason..?" The same voice that had yelled asked me. It was a nice voice; kind and a little amused. Definitely masculine.
I recoiled my hand immediately. "Umm..." I stuttered. "G-gomen nasai, I lost my glasses somewhere and I had no idea that you were standing there..."
The stranger laughed.
"Oh, okay then. I guess I have to forgive you now," he said. "Say, if you didn't know that I was here, then does that mean that you can't see me?"
I sighed.
"Yeah, pretty much."
"...Wow, you're really blind."
I scowled angrily. "You know, where I come from, people usually get to know each other before they start throwing around insults."
The stranger laughed again. That laugh was really starting to piss me off.
"I'm not that blind!" I exclaimed. "I bet that I can go a week without wearing my glasses!"
I heard him shift his weight from one foot to the other.
"Oh yeah?" There was a grin in his voice. I held myself back from smacking it right off his face, because not only was it extremely rude, but I would probably miss anyways.
"Yeah!"
"Then I'll hold you to that bet."
There was a pause.
"Wait...What?"
He chuckled. "I said, 'I'll hold you to that bet,'" he said. "Which means that I will follow you around for the next week and make sure that you don't wear your glasses."
"What...but you don't even know who I am!" I retorted.
"Fair enough. My name is..."
A pause.
"Your name...?"
"..ah, it's Naka..mura..Yu..ji. Nakamura Yuji,"he says, sounding sheepish.
I cross my arms over my chest and purse my lips, telling myself that this wasn't rational, that I would regret making this bet, that I need to have my glasses or I just simply couldn't survive.
His laugh echoed around in my head and I gritted my teeth.
If he thinks I'm giving him the satisfaction of saying no, he's wrong.
"...And I am Hiromi Yukiko." I take a deep breath. "Fine. A week without wearing my glasses. You're on."
If he thinks that I'm going to lose this bet, he's so wrong. I can win this with my eyes closed - which I'll probably end up doing anyway.
