Description

In the darkest night Chanyeol finds a star shining on him. Be fearless, it said. To avoid missing moments in life, be fearless.

Foreword

Chanyeol would like to think he has his life put together. He has a nice apartment after all, courtesy of his ex-husband who said he’d rather have nothing to do with anything that would remind him of their past together. Don’t be mistaken, they did enjoy being with each other at one point some three years ago, but that was probably more of an infatuation than love. They fell hard and fast and passionately without thinking through reality and now all the giant has left is this apartment which he wished he had the means to move out of. His bank account was nearly dry, he’d lost all the people he called friends in the industry, he misses making music and standing onstage, and most importantly of all, he misses how it feels like to be truly happy again.

The first few weeks after the divorce, Chanyeol spent his days sorting out his emotions and putting away the bitterness that was left behind. He knew he was equally at fault for agreeing to the idea of getting married after dating for barely a few months. He thought it would be great to quickly settle since he had found the person whom he thought was perfect at that point in time. Chanyeol often acted before thinking things through anyway, it was just his character. And things were perfect. Until Chanyeol had to depend on his husband’s income to get them both by, and they discovered how different their lifestyles and beliefs really were. He did think of getting a job as a music producer, but no one would hire an ex-idol who was still receiving death threats and nasty feedback by people who once called themselves his fans. Oh, how scary were those people who turned their backs on him in an instant when news came out about his marriage. Apparently idols weren’t allowed to have their own lives and getting married meant tarnishing the fans’ fantasies about someday marrying their bias. The giant simply scoffed back then when his managing company wanted to take him out of the idol group. They said he was bringing down the band and dragging their reputation through the mud with him, and he ended up buying himself out of the remainder of his contract. s looked so upset at the news but he patted them all on the shoulder before reassuring them that things would be fine. It turned out to be their last exchange. They were banned from keeping in contact with him.

Now Chanyeol scoffs, but at his own childish thinking and immaturity.

Fiddling with his phone, Chanyeol’s thumb hovered over the social media apps that he had logged out of three years ago during the first week of his marriage. He received plenty of death threats and antis would even camp out of his new apartment building to protest. Thankfully nobody knew how his husband looked, and that was how they still managed to have fresh groceries for their meals. in a deep breath, Chanyeol tapped on Instagram and keyed in his login credentials before squeezing his eyes shut. Immediately, his phone started buzzing with notifications and his eyes flew open with surprise at the overwhelming comments left on his photos. Death threats and hate comments made up most of the comments as he backtracked and Chanyeol wondered if he shouldn’t have logged on after all when his thumb scrolled past the two year mark. The antis seemed to have finally left him alone although there were still a couple here and there, but it seemed that people had largely forgotten about him with his absence. It was after the slew of hate comments before his sight finally landed on the comments by a particular Instagram handle that were always filled with cheeky messages and smileys.

CorgisAreFearless How has your day been my giant yoda~ Spring has finally come and soon we’ll be able to run in the sun again! I’m shaking my corgi in excitement hehe! ;)

CorgisAreFearless Geez, these antis don’t have a life. Don't listen to the lies, I swear they all lies >:( You know I could be your knight in shining armor all tires ^_~

CorgisAreFearless Yodaaaaaa will you ever come back on Instagram? You don’t have to post anything or acknowledge me, I just hope my supportive messages will be enough to put a quick smile on your face (: I’ll always be here, fighting!!!!

CorgisAreFearless Guess what! I finally got myself a corgi puppy today after searching and searching for one that’s my soulmate \(^0^)/

CorgisAreFearless I showed Mongryong (my pet corgi!!!) some old videos of you and it reacts to your voice more than it does to mine! Unbelievable! Yah pup, you can’t just ignore the hand that feeds you!

Chanyeol chuckled as he scrolled down the comments searching for particular comments left behind by the owner of Mongryong. It wasn’t long before curiosity overwhelmed him and he tapped on the username, drumming his fingers against the coffee table as he waited for the profile page to load. He was immediately greeted by rows and rows of an adorable welsh corgi in photos and videos.

Chanyeol found himself tapping on every single video. He’d always loved animals, but sadly his ex-husband was not fond of the idea of caring and feeding another mouth in this household. Chanyeol felt his breath hitching when his thumb came to the next photo.

The owner of Mongryong looked as cheerful as he’d always been coming across in comments. He probably fits spring perfectly, the season where everything regrows and animals start coming out again, the season where birds sing about love. Leaning his head back against the plush cushions of the couch, Chanyeol lowered his phone as he wondered. Could spring possibly mean a new start for him as well?

It had been a few hours since Chanyeol started stalking finding out about the lives of Mongryong and its owner via Instagram. Corgi Boy seldom posts photos with his face in it, much less talk about his personal life. Frankly speaking, Mongryong seemed more like the account holder than Corgi Boy did. As Chanyeol shoved a mouthful of jajangmyun into his mouth, his thumb worked endlessly scrolling down a contact list of numbers he should have deleted three years ago. He wonders how many are even still in service, and if the number he’s about to dial would still belong to the same man who used to look after every part of his life day in and out.

“Loey!” The usually calm and collected voice screamed and Chanyeol had to hastily yank the phone further from his ear. “Loey, is this you? Is this really you?! Oh my god, you’re alive!”
“Junmyeon hyung?” Chanyeol spoke tentatively into the receiver. “Uh… last I checked, I said I was getting hitched, not dying.”
“Don’t get smart with me!” his ex-manager scolded and Chanyeol chuckled recalling how the man’s ears would turn red every time they pissed him off. They were so terrible at listening to him.
“How are you, hyung?”
“How am I? Funny how you’re only calling to ask after three years. Where the hell have you been! I did not raise you to be disappearing from earth and cutting all ties from us! Your members were so worried!”
“I tried, remember? But the company soon found out and banned everyone from getting in contact. Tsk, you’re getting old, hyung.”
Oh, right.” Junmyeon sighed and silence reigned temporarily before he spoke again. “How’s marriage treating you? You disappeared so completely that even the paparazzi stopped trying to stalk you for news.”
Chanyeol chuckled dryly. “I got divorced late last month.”
Oh my god,” Junmyeon gasped. “You got dumped?!”
“We ended on amicable terms, hyung.” Chanyeol wished his ex-manager could see him rolling his eyes right now. “Our personalities clashed too much.”
“What the hell, Loey! I did not raise you to make rash decisions like suddenly getting married and divorced! Oh my God oh my god oh my god--”
“Hyung, you need to calm down.” Chanyeol grinned. “You’re still as panicky as ever.”
“Where are you? Are you in Korea? Scratch that, I don’t care where the hell you are, we need to meet.”

It’s been awhile since Chanyeol walked down the streets so openly. He had always stayed home to avoid being stalked or bringing chaos to his newlywed life, leaving his husband to run all the household errands. Of course, Chanyeol did attempt to sign up as a music producer for a few music labels into the second year of marriage but everyone turned him down when they thought about the negative image that came with his name. He spent most of his time being a house-husband instead.

With a cup of ice latte in his hands, Chanyeol stared out of the window. He’d picked a window seat with no sunglasses or cap or hoodie covering his face, and so far he’s had no problem at all. People mostly walked right past him, although a small handful would take second glances at him, but he figured it might be because of his overly protruding ears. The corners of his lips curled upwards when he noticed a familiar figure rushing as quickly as his feet would carry him after slamming his car door shut. His gaze followed Junmyeon who burst into the café with his eyes scanning the secluded shadows before his sight finally landed on Chanyeol who was smirking at him from the window seat.

“You’ve gotten more daring, haven’t you? Please tell me what else about you change besides your marital status.”
“Nothing much,” Chanyeol chuckled. “It’s surprising how nobody has recognized me yet.”
Junmyeon didn’t say anything in reply to that, instead opting to study the ex-idol carefully, scanning him from head to toe. “You’ve been working out huh?”
“I had to, I was getting fat from sitting around at home all day.”
“Please, I think everyone’s had enough of that stupid ‘f’ word in this industry.” Junmyeon took a sip from his favorite drink - lavender latte - before sighing with contentment. This café used to be their favorite hideout back when they needed a short break away from prying eyes. It was a quiet little shop that would’ve been missed at first glance from how plain the outside looked. Now, it has gotten noticeably busier with customers streaming in every other minute.

“So, how have you been, hyung?”
“Life running after temperamental teenagers who didn’t like sticking to diets or schedules or bedtimes. Hence, I quit being a manager. It’s been a few months and it’s kind of weird not having to be on my toes all the time but I’m slowly adapting.”
“It was that bad?” Chanyeol shook his head. He knew the industry boomed from the amount of idol groups which he couldn’t name or recognize debuting every other month, but he hadn’t really thought about the people who worked behind the scenes like Junmyeon. Perhaps he should reconsider his decision after all?
“What are you planning to do after the divorce? Ever thought of music producing? It’s probably easier to land a job now that the public has forgotten about you.”
“I was actually thinking of something else…” Chanyeol scratched his head sheepishly. “Like being a singer-producer again. Not as an idol, but an artiste. But I guess it’ll never work out.”
This is the real reason why you called me huh?” Chanyeol grinned sheepishly at Junmyeon’s spot on guess. “Well, you’re jobless and I’m jobless. And even though I’m tired of this industry, I actually like you more than I like those brats, so I think I’d survive. Why not?”
Chanyeol gaped. “Are you actually saying yes?”
“Were you hoping I’d say no?”
“No! It’s just--- Man, I love you so much hyung, you’re the best!” Chanyeol’s voice boomed as he scrambled on his feet, pushing back his chair with a screech and effectively attracting all of the attention. Junmyeon flushed red when his gaze met curious ones who were all staring at them and he hastily pat the giant on his back before shoving him back into his seat.
“Maybe we should establish rule number one now. No shouting or behaving in a misleading manner that will cause people to think we’re together, okay? I’m married.” Junmyeon flashed the ring on his left hand and Chanyeol felt his mouth dropping unglamorously, but that was not the point now.
You’re married?!

The next time Chanyeol sees Junmyeon, the latter insisted on meeting at Chanyeol’s apartment for fear of being embarrassed in public once again. Chanyeol had prepared a mixtape of his own songs during the hiatus he took and Junmyeon was going to take copies of it to potential agencies. The giant insisted on coming along, but Junmyeon was firm about going alone.
“I’m tougher than you are and the industry has gotten much more unkind while you were away. Besides, people actually recognize me.” Junmyeon chuckled as a slipper flew his way, but he dodged it by slipping out of the apartment quickly.

The search ended much faster than they’d expected. Throughout the week, Junmyeon paid visits personally, got turned down in his face, received patronizing replies, and got flatout blocked at reception, but good news came just one week after he began his task. In fact, Star Empire Entertainment had been at the top of his list when he began his search for Chanyeol’s new agency. Although not new to the industry, it had reestablished itself as home to talented singer-songwriters and producers in recent years, completely dropping idol groups from their line up. Junmyeon knew there would be no better place for Chanyeol to regain his footing on, no better place for Chanyeol to settle into as painlessly as possible and call home. That night, after signing Chanyeol’s contract in the afternoon, the pair had a celebratory dinner at a kbbq restaurant near Chanyeol’s place. And before the night ended, Chanyeol decided he should share this piece of good news with his number one fan...

A/N
Am I really writing another story that's related to Instagram [the previous one was hunhan titled 'Insta(nt) Love']? I don't know why I'm torturing myself like this but obviously I got too lazy to photoshop the comments or the number of likes so... At least I have something up for my 4th year anniversary on aff x'D

Also, I have no idea why I ended up with this poster because i was gonna make a cute poster but this is nowhere near cute and I'm too lazy to remake a new one. I guess we just have to deal with it!

Please enjoy this oneshot (hopefully it won't end up like Love Songs with Baekhyun with so many added special chapters. Or should it?) and upvote! :)
