Baby it's me

Don't Let Me Go - an Addicted (Heroin) Fanfiction

Days passed by. The orphanage was still running as per normal. Even though there are two additional volunteers, it does not really affect their upkeep. In fact, since there are more volunteers, they have even more people to gather necessary items from the town market or in their vast garden.

Jingyu was used to these kind of work because he always volunteer here in the orphanage every year. Weizhou however, insists on working as a volunteer even if Mother Superior asked him not to because of his status as a guest. But he said he would rather go back to Shanghai than live freely here in Taiwan. Hearing that, even Mother superior did not have a choice but just allow Brother Weizhou to do as he please.

Some volunteers are like Weizhou, was also adopted here. But have managed to be adopted to a good family and then made volunteering here as their gratitude to their care in those times that no one would even give them proper attention that they need. So they feel like it is at least their responsibility to give back. Some volunteers are like Sister Clarence, whom resides in the orphanage and manages some of the villa’s function. And almost all of them are women from the local church. Jingyu was an exception because he also resides in the villa whenever he is here. That is because of his charity fund raiser event he hosted three years ago in Shanghai.

He helped raise a sufficient amount of money that could last the orphanage a few years. The fund raiser event includes a lot of photographers in Shanghai to exhibit their photographs and sell them to those who will be interested in them. All money raised was pledged in their charity of choice. And because Jingyu was the host of the said event, a small percentage of all sold photographs went to his own charity of choice which is this Orphanage. Because of the great deal of help Jingyu made, Mother Superior felt the need to welcome Brother Johnny as their very important guest and rewarded him his own room as his residence whenever he is in Taiwan. The villa has more than enough rooms that it could pass as a mini hotel. In fact, there are still a few small rooms that are fully furnished but are not being used by anyone because it would serve as a guest room.

Weizhou would always come with Jingyu whenever Jingyu is tasked to do something. Today, Jingyu was asked by Mother Superior to gather fish from the fishpond a few hundred meters away from the orphanage. Mother Superior gave the old truck key to Jingyu but he refused.

“Why don’t you use the truck? It would make you get those fish easier than if you walk.” Mother Superior concernedly asked.

“I know that Mother Superior, but I think I need some lifting. And besides, brother Weizhou will come with me to help even if I didn’t ask him.” Jingyu explained.

“Alright then, it’s not that far anyway. But I heard the pond owner got the flu, so I’m afraid you’ll have to get those fish yourselves.” Mother Superior said.

“It’s okay. I started to learn fishing since I was 5.” Jingyu responded b with smile.

Jingyu started to walk in the direction of the fish pond with four large fish buckets. A few moments later, he heard a running sound rushing towards him. He didn’t need to look back and see who was following him and he heard that person shouting.

“Brother Johnny, wait up.” Weizhou shouted. He started calling him Brother Johnny because he does not want to call him by his full name. As for the reason, he does not want to tell. Knowing that it’s not his business to pry, Weizhou just calls him Brother Johnny now instead of Huang Jingyu.

Weizhou finally managed to catch up to where Jingyu was currently walking.

“Why didn’t you call for me?” Weizhou asked.

“I told you, you did not need to help out so I didn’t.”

“But I still expected you to come around. And boy I was right.” Jingyu started to laugh and then handed two of the four empty fish buckets that were stacked. “Look, I brought four of these because I know you’ll come by anyway.”

“What are these and where are we going?” Weizhou held the two wooden buckets in his hands and asked.

“Those are fish buckets. We are heading to the pond to get us some fresh fish.” Jingyu explained and looked at Weizhou’s face for a moment and then looked straight again.

“So, we’ll just get some fish and then come back to the orphanage is that right?”

“Nope.”

“What do you mean with that?”

“It means we would have to get it from the pond ourselves.” Jingyu explained. Looking at Weizhou’s glum expression, he asked. “What’s with that face?”

Weizhou was still looking gloomy.

“Will it take long?” Weizhou sadly asked.

Jingyu once again glanced at Weizhou.

“Not if we work fast.”

Hearing what Jingyu said lifted Weizhou’s spirits. They continued to walk and few minutes later they arrived at a large cottage. It has two floors but the first floor looked more than a storage than a residence. Jingyu went straight up and Weizhou followed suit. Jingyu knocked on the door and a middle aged woman greeted them.

“Miss Lang do you remember me?” Jingyu asked the middle aged woman.

“Of course Brother Johnny! Who would forget such an angelic face like that?” Mrs. Lang complimented.

“Thank you Miss Lang. My business here is to get some fish for the orphanage.” Jingyu stated.

Miss Lang frowned. Her husband is currently sick at the moment and cannot prepare the scheduled goods.

“I’m afraid it won’t be ready ‘til tomorrow. My husband he is…”

“I heard Miss Lang that’s why I brought a friend here to help me.”

With this Weizhou stepped closer to them and then greeted Miss Lang.

“Hello, my name is Xu Weizhou nice to meet you.”

“Such a sweet boy.” Miss Lang said and then smiled. “Alright, if you two boys can do the job then let’s all go to the pond and I will instruct you two.”

Then the three of them went to the fish pond. Miss Lang instructed them where to place the large fishing net and they would just hold it still in position.

Miss Lang waited until the water calms and then placed a lot of feeds on the water. Miss Land explained that this is not her husband’s method of catching fish because it is impractical to waste so much feeds. But Miss Lang knows that orphanage food will take priority so even if her husband would scold her after this little splurge, she didn’t mind.

Little by little, the area of which she placed a lot of feeds became crowded with few fishes. She patiently waited until she was satisfied that the fishes in the area of the fishing net’s scoop could fill their four buckets.

Both Weizhou and Jingyu waited for Miss Lang’s instruction and when she said the word “lift”, both of them lifted the net which was incredibly heavy. Weizhou was glad he came around because he knew that all of these weight is too much for a single person.

When they lifted the fishing net, they placed the haul on the ground and then transferred the fishes in their respective buckets. Little ones who are still capable of growing were thrown back to the pond as well as pregnant fishes. When both of their buckets were filled, there were still some left and Miss Lang got her own bucket to fill and placed some fish in it.

“My husband might still be sick for a few more days so I will make his favorite fish soup. He’s been nagging me for a while now but I couldn’t cook it for him because I can’t catch a fish with just me. So you truly helped us this time.” Miss Lang stated.

“No Miss Lang, you were the one who have been a great help to us.” Jingyu said. Miss Lang just smiled.

Weizhou and Jingyu carried the fish buckets and then started to walk back to the orphanage.

They have walked halfway to the orphanage when Jingyu asked Weizhou to take a little break.

Weizhou, who were also tired from lifting the fish buckets smiled and then walked towards a tree shed. It was high noon but the wind was still breezy. Jingyu also sat by that same tree shed. A few moments later, he noticed that Weizhou was humming like a monk.

“What are you doing?” Jingyu asked Weizhou.

He opened his eyes and said.

“I am meditating.” Then Weizhou closed his eyes again and but he still talked to Jingyu. “I don’t have my journal with me right now so I’m calming my mind because I am suddenly inspired and have thought of an idea for another poem.”

Jingyu studied Weizhou’s action. And he looks as if he’s really focusing on meditation. He also looks as if he’s channeling the nature and imbibing it into his own. Like the cultivation stories he read when he was young.

Jingyu was lost in thoughts when suddenly his phone vibrated. Somebody was calling him. It’s a good thing that his phone was on vibrate because it would otherwise distract Weizhou. So he walked into a safe distance and then answered the phone call with no caller I.D. so it might be coming from a foreign country.

“Hello, who is this?” Jingyu answered.

“Baby, it’s me. Come back home. I miss you.” The woman on the other side of the line responded.
