Wonwoo was in Starbucks drinking his Frappucino while trying to write a scenario for his novel. He was stuck in a writer’s block for almost two weeks now and needed inspiration. The notepad he brought had a bunch of ideas put together and quickly discarded as it was too cliché. He moves on to the next blank page but as he looks at it, nothing comes to his mind, not one word.

               

 

 

                                                   

He takes a sip of his frappe when someone enters the coffee shop, he looks up and he felt himself tense.

 

 

 

 

 

He saw the most beautiful person he’s ever seen walk in. He’s breath got caught and he feels like he was in one of those movies with the wind blowing oddly towards the person and sparkling lights surrounding them.

 

 

 

 

He couldn’t keep his eyes off her and continues to stare as the said person orders and walks towards him.

 

 

“Excuse me? Is this seat taken?” She asks, referring to the long table where Wonwoo was seated.

 

 

Wonwoo shakes his head to say ‘no’ and continues to be in awe by her smile; he also couldn’t help noticing the slight accent in her voice. She pulls the stool and sits on it and takes her phone out. Now that she was in close proximity, Wonwoo couldn’t help but stare.

 

 

 

 

It must have been minutes or seconds. He doesn’t really know; when the female looks up at him and gave a small smile.

 

 

 

 

“Can I help you with something?”

 

 

 

 

Wonwoo momentarily broke from his trance realizing he got caught staring.

 

 

“Ah! Sorry. You… You just look so beautiful I couldn’t help but stare.”

She shyly smiles. “Thank you? I supposed.”

 

 

 

An awkward silence befalls them for a few seconds before the girl spoke up.

 

 

 

 

 

“Uhm… this is a bit awkward.”

“Ugh… Sorry. I tend to get lost in thoughts easily.”

“I see.”

“Ugh… Mhmm… I should… should probably get back to writing.”

 

 

 

 

Wonwoo slowly turns away and faces the blank page on his notepad. He stares at it as he contemplates whether to try to talk to her again or just leave it be, but she beat him to it.

 

 

 

 

“What are you writing?” she asks with a friendly smile.

 

 

 

 

 

Wonwoo turns to face her. She was giving him her full attention.

 

 

 

 

 

“Ugh… Just…. Words.”

 

 

 

 

She chuckles at his answer.

 

 

 

 

“I get that but what exactly is your topic? School work?”

“No…. Uhm…. It’s actually for my novel.”

“Novel? You mean a book?”

“Yeah.”

“Are you perhaps a writer?”

“Y-Yeah. That’s why I’m writing.”

“Hmm…. But why is the page blank?”

“Oh! I guess you can say I have writer’s block at the moment.”

“Must be hard then?”

“It’s tolerable at times but there are those days where I can’t think of anything. It may take me days, weeks even months just to have an idea come to mind.”

“How sad but you love it though? Your work that is.”

 

 

 

 

Wonwoo falls silent for a moment.

 

 

 

 

“I guess I do. If I didn’t…. I wouldn’t be so willing to write at all.”

“Well that’s good to know.”

 

 

 

 

Wonwoo wanted to talk more but the female’s order was finished and she was called.

 

 

 

 

“Oh that’s me! I guess I got to go now. It was nice meeting you though….”

“Wonwoo. Jeon Wonwoo.”

“Wonwoo-sshi. I’m Mina. Myoui Mina.”

“Myoui?”

“I’m Japanese. Look, I have to go now but I do hope you’ll find inspiration soon and break off from your writer’s block. I wish you good luck with that.”

 

 

 

 

Then she turns and heads to the counter and takes her drink. She looks back at me and waves. I unconsciously wave back and then she was gone.

 

 

 

 

She was gone. But I found myself coming up with an idea.

 

 

 

 

 

“I think I just found my inspiration.”
