Where Are You?

Searching For You

"Seo Ha, I think I found the last letter!" Taehyung announced excitedly, bounding over to me and sitting beside me. "Look."

Seo Ha

I'm going to stop writing you. It's been 5 years as of today... 5 years that I wrote with no answer. I thought that maybe the letters never got to you but the postal office assured us that you recieved every single one of them.
I'll accept that you're mad at me, I will. I'll just do you a favor and stop writing. But that doesn't mean I hate you... I could probably never hate you because you're my close friend, even now.
I'm sending a gift to you as well. You said that your favorite animal was a fox because it reminded you of both a cat and a dog. You picked it because you didn't want to choose betwwen cats and dogs. I remember that.
It reminded me of you. It's a little stuffed fox with a silver necklace around the neck. Inside the wrapping paper is a pendant, a fox pendant, that you can put on the chain if you wish. I thought you would like it so I bought it for you.
I hope you enjoy the gift and I'm sorry I had to move away from you. If you wish to respond to me, I'll gladly start writing you again.
- Jimin

"When was this?" I frowned at it.

"About 10 years ago, if I did the math right."

"10 years ago?" I gave a defeated sigh. "He wrote to me for 5 years... And I never knew of it."

"We can try writing him again." Taehyung put a hand on my shoulder. "The letter says these are from America... Did he really move there?"

"It'd explain why his English sky rocketed." I sniffled a bit. "Let's write to him. I'm 15 years late but he'd still respond, right?"

"Of course." Taehyung smiled widely. "Let's move the rest of these boxes and then get home before we do that."

I nodded and then paused. "But where is the fox with the necklace?"

Taehyung stood up and glanced around. "Maybe it is in one of the boxes?"

"I want to find it..." I stood up and started opening boxes and digging through them. I glanced at Taehyung and noticed he looked a bit helpless so I smiled. "Tae, what would I do without you?"

"Huh?"

"You helped me find the last letter and you brought up writing back to him." I giggled a little and started searching some more.

"I feel like I'm helping you find a lost lover." He whined. "What if I lose you to him again?"

"It's a letter, Tae, not a marriage proposal. Plus, did you even 'have' me in the first place?"

"It's a letter, Tae. It's not a big deal, Tae." He mocked, beginning his search for the gift as well.

After a long time of searching, I eventually found the dusty fox in the bottom of a box with the necklace still around it. "Tae, I found it!"

"Finally..." He stretched his arms up towards the ceiling.

"But where's the pendant?" I searched around the box some more but couldn't find it.

"You're not going to find it. It's probably tiny." Taehyung sighed. "Let's just get these boxes to the truck and go home."

"Okay. I'm keeping the boxes with the letters so just leave those where they are." I mumbled, putting the little fox down on top of one of the letter boxes. "Let's finish!"

We loaded the truck with the rest of the boxes. There was absolutely no room for anymore boxes in the truck since we had to be creative with the last few. It was so full.

"At least we're done." Taehyung yawned. "The letter boxes are in the backseat of the truck along with your gift. It's really crammed because all my suitcases are there as well."

"Right, cause you got kicked out."

"Shh..." He chuckled, the both of us climbing into the truck. "What are we going to do with all this stuff?"

"Sell it, I guess." I sighed. "There is nothing else we can do with any of it. None of this stuff is special to the family or anything." I reached in the back and grabbed the little fox. "He's so cute..."

"I can find you a bigger and cuter one." Taehyung grumbled as he began to drive.

"I bet you could." I tsked. "Do you think it would harm the thing to put it in the wash?"

"Read the little tag on it. It should tell you." He pointed to the little tag on the leg and then focused back on the road.

"Oh, I guess it would." I spoke after reading it. "He's just so dusty."

"Just fling it around like it is a rug."

"No! ... Sheesh." I set it on my lap and watched out the window. "I wonder what it was like for him to move to America."

"Probably terrifying. He was already shorter than the average person and emotionally weak so he probably got beat up."

"Wow." I shook my head again. "He was emotionally weak because you until he cried."

"What? Me?"

"Me too! You teased me all day!" I snapped. "You're a jerk."

"Wow!" He yowled just to be loud. "How come you're not emotional weak then?"

"Cause I was tougher than Jimin."

"Probably still are."

"We don't know that."

"But we will."

"Don't be too hopeful. What if he doesn't respond?"

"He said he would."

"And you said you'd be quiet."

"When?"

"Right now."

"Yah..." He pouted. "I get the point."

"Sweet." I patted his hand.

We road in silence for the rest of the ride, pulling into the driveway right at 7pm.

"You can use the garage since we have stuff people can steal. Not that it matters but still."

"Where is your car?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Right there." I pointed to the road at the side of my house.

"Why is it out there?" He nodded anyways and opened my garage with his keys. He had keys to my car, house, and the little key thing to open the garage. I trust him a lot, as one can tell.

"I don't know. I wanted to, I guess."

"Your mood dropped." Taehyung sighed, turning off the car. "I'm sorry."

"It wasn't you." I hit his shoulder but he didn't whine like usual this time. "I just think of my parents when it's late and now I have Jimin in my mind."

"Well, we're going to have fun today!" He broke into a smile. "Let's get these letters in and start writing one to Jimin. I want to write one too."

"Okay!" I smiled as well and we got out, bringing the letter boxes in with a few trips back and forth. "There. I'll read them one by one... It'll take a while but I want to read them all." I looked over the pile of boxes in the corner of my bedroom and put the little stuffed fox on top of one. "Let's start writing."

I handed him a pen and paper and got one for myself. Hopefully this works... I want to hear from him after all these years.

Jimin Park Jimin

I never read any of your letters. I actually just found them up in the attic we use to play in...
I don't know why I never got any but I think my parents kept them from me. I was never angry with you, but rather upset. I haven't read all the letters yet so I don't know why you disappeared yet. But I read a few of them.
Well anyways... Taehyung and I are still friends and we both really want to see you again. I hope you weren't too hurt from not getting any letters... But I'll answer you from now on.
Here, call me when you get this, hm? ___________
I can't wait to hear from you.

-Kang Seo Ha :)

"I'm done!" I smiled with excitement.

"Me too!" Taehyung grabbed my letter and slid his over. "Read mine, I want to read yours."

"Yah, you barely wrote a thing!" I giggled.

Jimin

Hey, what the hell was that for? Do you think you can just disappear from me? Do you know how many times Seo Ha cried when you left?
You better respond or I'll seriously kill you. I'm serious. I'm waiting in Korea for you, Seo Ha's prince.

- Taehyungieee
P.S. I hope you grew and became stronger, I'm going to tease you so much if you didn't.

"Aren't you afraid to speak so informal?" I couldn't help but giggle at his stupid letter. "Do you have to say I cried?"

"Of course! He'll respond if he knows you cried." He took both the letters and ran off into another room. "I'm sending these tonight!"

"What?"

"I'm going to the postal office. I'll tell them to make it quick."

"Sure, sure." I stood up as well. "You're sleeping on the couch tonight though. I'm going to bed. I'm exhausted."

"Lame." Taehyung nodded as he passed by again and exited the door.

I really hope he responds... I want to know what he's been up to all these years. I want to be his friend again...

--

"Hello?" I tucked my phone between my shoulder and my cheek. "Who is this?"

"Is this Kang Seo Ha?" A male voice came over the other end, speaking in clear English.

How long has it been since I sent the letter? For sure a few weeks... Jimin!?  "Park Jimin!?" I couldn't help but get excited and straighten up, dropping the wash rag in the sink.

"Ah... This must be Kang Seo Ha. I hope I'm saying your names right. I'm not Korean." He sighed. "Uhm... Listen, I'm not Park Jimin. I had your letter translated because I wanted to know why I recieved a letter from Korea."

"You're not Park Jimin?" I spoke English as well, my heart falling. "I recieved letters from this address 10 years ago, I just thought I could contact him this way again. I'm very sorry."

"Oh good, you speak English. But yes, we moved into this house 3 or 4 years back now. The family that lived here moved to another house. They must be who you are looking for?"

"Do you happen to know where, by any chance?"

"I don't but I believe they stayed in this state. That probably aids nothing to you though."

"Ah, thanks anyways."

"I'm sorry, again."

"I'm sorry you had to waste money to call all the way here. But thank you very much for informing me." I hung up and hung my head a bit.

Now everything we just wrote will never get to Jimin... We'll never find him now. I wonder where Tae is... He's going to be upset too.

I did about half the dishes before he entered the kitchen. Why did we let these dishes pile up so much? This is taking forever.

"Why do you look so down?" He stood beside me and reached into the soapy water to find another rag. "I'll help you."

"I got a call from America."

"Jimin?" His hesitated a bit, scrubbing a pan. "What'd he say?"

"It wasn't Jimin." I sighed. "Jimin's family moved out of the house 3 or 4 years ago. I'm grateful that they made the expensive call to tell us though. But now we have no leads on Jimin anymore."

His emotion did not change much I thought he'd show a bit more emotion than this. Maybe he doesn't want to find Jimin as much as I do afterall. "Ah... Did he happen to know where Jimin moved to?"

"They said the same state but they didn't know anything else."

"What if we just go there and look for him?" Taehyung suggested.

"He could be anywhere, Tae."

"But listen, we have his old address. If we search around town, I'm sure we'd find someone who knew Jimin and his family. They lived there a while so someone is bound to know where they moved too. And if they're in the same state still, it'll be that much easier to locate him once we found someone who knew who Jimin is."

"But the money, Tae..." I helped him scrub off some other dishes, our hands brushing numerous times under the water but neither of us were affected by it anymore.

"You're rich, remember?"

"We still have about half of those boxes to sell or give away." I hesitated. "We can't just go blindly into another country."

"How about we take care of the boxes and then travel there?" Taehyung sighed. "I know how much Jimin means to you, even after 15 years of lost contact. And I want to meet him again as well. I have to beat him up for all the times he made you cry by vanishing."

"You're so petty." I giggled a bit. "I'll make you a deal. If you can earn enough money by the end of this week to buy two tickets there and afford some place to temporarily stay there, then we'll go."

"Really? I only have one week?" He slumped a bit.

"Yup, only one week." He won't be able to do it so we'll be fine. I want to find Jimin but he isn't thinking of all the issues there will be if we just go blindly into a country neither of us have been to.

"Promise?" He seemed to force a cheeky smile.

"Sure, I promise."

"You can't go back on it now."

"I know, I know. I won't." I bit my lip a bit. "Let's finish the dishes and try and sell some more of the boxes."

"Don't you feel bad for selling all of your families' things?"

"No. They aren't memories or anything. I kept all my mom's jewelry and a few of my dad's rings as well. The rest doesn't hold any meaning so they can go."

"Ah, I see." He nodded, splashing a bit of the water on my shirt.

"Yah! You're so childish!" I squealed and splashed a bit at him as well. "Let's just finish this, hm?"

"Okay, okay." He laughed, splashing a little bit at me again. "Okay, I'm done."

"Are you?" I laughed.

"Maybe."

"That's what I thought."

We worked on the dishes a while longer and left them on the counter to dry, promising to each other not to let them pile up that much ever again but knowing we would get lazy anyways.

We had decided to watch a movie to pass some time. Watching a movie with Taehyung was the easiest thing to do because he was actually quiet during them. Unless something really funny or stupid happens, then he causes chaos once more.

But this time I was the one to ruin the silence. "Hey Tae, do you think going to his country would really aid us in finding him? It seems a bit... Extreme."

He thought a moment. "I don't think so. You've been waiting for him for 15 years and now we have a lead on where he is. You have the means of getting there, it's not like you're over coming huge obstacles to get there. Plus, you don't even have a job right now." He glanced down at me, my head resting in his lap like we always did. I couldn't stand to sit and watch a movie. I liked lying down much more anyways and his lap was comforting. "It makes sense to me, unless you don't care if you find him or not."

"No, I want to find him." I sighed. "I'm just worried it'll be a waste."

"It is the only lead we got." He glanced back at the screen, getting absorbed into the movie once more.

But if we go there and he's not there, what will I do? That would really be the last lead we had... Jimin would be just as out of reach as he was before we had found the letters.

Why do I want to find him so bad? He was a childhood friend. I had many other friends as well and those friends are nonexistent at my side to this day so why do I want to find Jimin and not them? Is it because he just vanished someday rather than us just growing apart like my other friends?

Maybe I really had feelings for him... You can't fall in love that young... Can you? I wouldn't call it love at the age. Maybe... Like? I liked Jimin back then? That makes sense. Of course someone would want to find someone they use to like when they were younger. It's only natural to see how they've grown and aged and what they do.

I wonder if that's the reason why Tae doesn't really seem too keen on finding Jimin for himself. Sure he might want to find Jimin, but I think he's mostly doing it for me. Of course Tae wouldn't have liked Jimin enough to remember him all these years and want to find him like I do. It makes sense that I'd be the only one wanting to find him.

"What are you thinking so hard about?" Taehyung laughed, touching his pointer finger to the place between my eyebrows, causing me to relax the muscles before I even knew I was scrunching them up like that. "You're all tense."

"Nothing." I mumbled, pushing away his hand. "I'm just thinking if going to America is really something we should do. You don't even know English."

"Yah, I know enough."

"Enough for what? You're full of lies."

"You know English."

"Maybe I should just go by myself?"

"No!" Taehyung protested immediately. "You can't do that! It's dangerous."

"Lots of people travel alone, Tae."

"No, no. I go with you." He crossed his arms.

"Who says we're even going at all? You have to make the money in a week. You're wasting time by watching movies with me." I smirked.

He removed my head from his lap and stood up. "Fine, I'll go make money."

I sat up to stop him but he was already bounding out the door. "I was kidding, idiot." I laughed to myself. I wonder how Jimin is doing... Or what he's doing right now. America must've been a scary experience but now he's use to it for sure... Would he want to see me after all these years?

"Ah, whatever! I don't know." I fell back down with a yawn.

He's not going to make it anyways. He can go make as much as he wants but it won't be enough.

It's too expensive travelling abroad.
