“Mr. Lee, pleasure to meet you, I’m Daniel Oh.” Chanyeol smiled a little with a nod as he bowed.

“Pleasure to meet you Mr. Oh.” He said.

“Please, sit and let’s talk.” Daniel smiled gesturing to the sofa in his office.

Chanyeol nodded and took a seat “I’m sure you’re curious about my visit.” Chanyeol spoke.

Daniel chuckled “That I am, I can’t say I know you, so this is a new meeting for the both of us.”

“That it is.” Chanyeol agreed “But there’s something I’d like to ask you.”

“And what’s that?”

“Do you know an Elena Li?”

Chanyeol watched as Daniel stiffened in his chair, staring back at him with an unreadable expression. He didn’t look sad necessarily, shocked, yes, but there was something else Chanyeol couldn’t tell.

“I…I do remember Elena..” he answered after a moment.

“Can I ask how?” Chanyeol asked.

“Why?” Daniel asked.

“She’s dead Daniel.” Chanyeol said flatly. “She was killed in a fire, along with her coworkers.”

“Wh-What?”

“How do you know Ms. Li Daniel?”

Daniel sighed placing his face momentarily in his hands before looking back up “She’s…. She’s my ex fiancé.”

“Ex fiancé? How many years has it been?”

“About eight or nine now I think.”

Chanyeol nodded “But you’re married now? Judging from that gold band on your finger.”

Daniel nodded “I am,” he said playing slightly with the ring “I am remarried, and am going on six years with him.”

Chanyeol nodded “When was the last time you spoke with Ms. Li?”

“Are you FBI or something?”

Chanyeol chuckled “I could only wish for such a job, I’m just an investigator with the police, I’m nothing special, I promise.”

Daniel chuckled with a nod “I’m sure you’ll get there eventually.”

“Maybe, but I have to finish this case first before I can.”

Daniel smiled with a nod “The last time I spoke to her was probably around two years ago, we met by chance in a restaurant when I was meeting my husband for our anniversary dinner, it was a brief meeting, we spoke for maybe two or three minutes.”

“Did she seem like anything was off? Even at that time?”

Daniel shrugged “Elena has always been a shy and distant girl, she never really said much even after we’d gotten to know each other and planned to be married.”

“Can I ask why you two broke things off?”

“She didn’t seem happy with me. It didn’t look like she wanted to be with me, it was like she would avoid me when I got home and I hated it because I loved her, I wanted to be with her, but I guess it wasn’t mutual and she didn’t deny or acknowledge anything when I asked her about it and we just kind of broke things off from there.” He shrugged.

Chanyeol nodded “Was your relationship ever harsh, or sour after you ended things with her?”

“If you think I killed her you’re wrong, I loved her.”

Chanyeol chuckled “Mr. Oh, I think nothing of the sort, you’re just the closest person to her since she is an only child and her parents died when she was fourteen. I’m only trying to figure out who she really is.”

Daniel sighed again “After we broke up, things were rough, I guess you could say. I was busy with work so I guess it distracted me enough, but she was going through some hard times, finding her own place, getting back
