Bottles surrounded the couch. A dark figure laid across it, bottle in hand. Loud snores filled the usually quiet house. There was a strong smell of alcohol cigarettes. Tip toeing to the kitchen was a challenge. The figure in the couch let out a groan scaring the young boy. He grabbed some money he had hidden for times of emergency. Stuffing it into his backpack he went straight to the front door holding his breath in case the slightest sound would wake him. He let out a relaxed sigh when he made it, soon tensing up when his gruff voice bellowed, "Where do you think you're going?" The boy's eyes widened as he turned his face slightly to see the man move towards him. Before he could change his mind he opened the door and ran. The man was angry. You could tell by his tone of voice, "You'll come back. You always do. When you do I'll have a special present waiting for you." The boy continued running. He knew exactly what that present would be.
