Back to December

Description

It was that December night when I thought I was finally free

It was that December night when I regretted everything…

It was that December night when I first spent Christmas miserably

It was that December night I always wanted to replay…

I wanted to go back in time and change it… but I can’t.

Foreword

Prologue;

It was another December night. The cold breeze swept as I walked down on a busy street. The shops now look merrier with bright Christmas lights ad loud Christmas songs played. Children were playing merrily, singing Christmas carols, and talking about their excitement for Santa’s arrival this mid night.

It was on a nearby restaurant where I always regretted everything. It was the most memorable place for me. For one thing, it has witnessed the unforgettable moments of my life.

“Welcome, ma’am!” a cheerful employee beamed at me as I entered the restaurant. I smiled at her and made my way inside to find a vacant table. I sat near the glass window where I could see people pass by. I waited for minutes desperately looking on the screen of my phone to see if he had replied to my text messages but he hadn’t.

“Where are you now?” I muttered as I buried my face on my palms.

Every time I close my eyes, everything came back to my mind. It was always replaying on my mind… that moment when I left him there… trying himself not to cry… He was begging me but I left him…

“Jenny…” a voice called out my name. That voice I always longed to hear again after a year… that voice that always seemed to be familiar. I looked up and saw that man who once made my life meaningful. That man who became the reason for me to spend Christmas miserably.  That man I always missed.

I stood up from my seat and quickly run my way to hug him. I hugged him tightly as tears fell on my cheeks. He hugged me back and made me feel so warm though his body felt so cold as if he was frozen because of the winter season. I pulled back and looked at him in his eyes. He was thinner and paler than the last time we saw each other. “Dongwoon….” I said hoarsely.

“I missed you, Jenny…” he said as I recognized his voice changed a bit also.

But one thing disturbed my thoughts, everyone was looking at us—no, at me—like I was some kind of weirdo.
