Chap. 2
The CHECKMATE Project
The hallways of the company are practically empty as almost everyone had already left from their evaluation and interview. In the hallway across from the studio that everyone had been questioned at, stood the handsome Hiro. He leaned his head against the wall, “I’ve actually been made the vocalist of Rook,” he smiled, doing a little victory dance.
A girl wearing a pink open shoulder sweater smiles, catching his dance as she passes through the hallway. “What’s the dance for Hiro?” She asks in Japanese.
Hiro stops and looks up at the girl, “Ah, Natsu,” he straightens back up. “I’m just so happy that I actually made it into Rook,” he answers in Japanese, running a hand through his hair. “Don’t you think it was weird that our photo shoot took place over so much time?”
Natsu nods, “I’m glad you made it in. I did think it was odd too, cause between all that time so many of you guys got your hair color changed before they decided to do more pictures. Ah, I was going to ask, why are you still here?”
Hiro swung his arms around. “I just finished my interview and Jiu began hers after me, we usually go out and get a little snack for dinner around now so I thought I would wait for her. What about you?”
Natsu blinked a few times, “Oh, I came to…” she paused, pretending to remember. “Pick up my clothes! I left them here earlier when I was with all the other girls,” she semi-lied, she had indeed left her clothes but not from that long ago, her short hair no longer wet from showering, traces of her recent practicing hidden very well.
“I see,” Hiro gives her a soft smile. “After you grab that, would you like to join Jiu and me? She should be done soon, and it’s beneficial for our Korean too,” he says switching to Korean from Japanese mid-sentence.
Natsu gives a nod replying in Korean too, “Yeah, I’ll be right back then,” she starts heading off to the practice room she was just in by herself, picking up her things and putting her jacket on. Heading back into the hallway, she sees Jiu and Hiro playing a little hand game. As Natsu walked closer she noticed Jiu’s eyes were a little teary, “Jiu, what’s wrong?”
Jiu shakes her head and Hiro answers responding in Japanese so Jiu wouldn’t have to hear these words again, “She’s not debuting with us, she’s not in Queen…”
Natsu blinks again, keeping her questions in Japanese, “Why not?”
Hiro shrugs stills focused on playing the hand game with Jiu, “I’m not sure.”
Jiu sighs. “It’s okay you two… Let’s just go and eat, that’ll make me feel better,” she says, putting her hands into her jacket pocket.
Natsu nods. “Alright,” Hiro says returning to Korean and following Jiu who was already heading down the hallway, Natsu’s backpack bouncing lightly as they walked out of the company building.
Together they walked the cold streets, only illuminated by the street lights, but still very bright. “Well… Where do you guys usually eat?” Natsu asks both of them, not sure where they were walking to.
Jiu smirks, “Well, you see,” she answers jabbing at Hiro’s side. “Hiro-oppa here has a little sweet tooth that he doesn’t like anyone to know about, so since he’s always trying to hide and can’t contain himself, he drags me along.”
Hiro lets out a small sigh as he nods, “Guilty as charged.” Natsu mouths an ‘o’ shape, understanding the situation and somewhat grasping an idea of where they were going as they continued walking.
“It’s nice t
