Chapter I

 

H

ey kid, wake up,” the man shook the sleeping boy thinking that this boy might cause trouble around the store. He continued shaking the boy, but the boy did not even flinch in acknowledgement. “What’s wrong here?” the guy in an expensive coat asked his employee. “Sir, this guy is sleeping in here and he did not even budge as I was trying to wake him up. The former observed the boy and noticed that the boy looked like he’s been out on the streets for a little while now, and his assumptions were proven right when he saw the boy sleeping on a big duffle bag. “This boy must be homeless, let him sleep for a while. And when he wakes up, make sure to cater him and aide him by his needs,” the man said softly, suddenly feeling emphatic of the younger boy’s state. “Indeed, poor boy, he must not be over sixteen yet,” the employee agreed. The other man kneeled closer to the boy taking his wrist, “Young boy, I let you have this. With this silver band, you may be guided from all the journey you will partake in,” he said as he slid the bracelet on the boy’s wrist. The man suddenly turned to his employee, “Please give this to him as my help. I cannot stay longer for ‘he’ entreats my presence once again,” the man smiled sadly and handed his employee a couple bills.

            The boy then stirred in his sleep, groaning as he finally sobered up from his long sleep. He blinked repeatedly, trying to decipher if he was still asleep or not. He was evidently confused, mistaking reality as to a dream as he had not been able to sleep in a bed for a long time, then suddenly waking up to a very warm and comfortable bed. He tried to look for someone—anyone, wanting his queries to be answered. As he was looking around the pristine and exquisite room, a man around his mid-forties entered, looking pleased that the boy is already awake. “Oh, you must be famished. You’ve been sleeping here for about 4 hours now. Here, have some cookies and tea. Dinner will be served in a while, so eat these in order to ease your hunger, young boy,” the man said handing him the tray of cookies and tea. The boy was confused, feeling a little out of time.
