The red string of fate

According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red cord to those that are destined to meet one another. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances.

This thing may stretch or tangle, but-

“Owh!”

Jaehwan rubbed his sore , cursing silently at whoever bumped into him and caused the harsh landing. He opened his eyes when soft voice spoke.

“You’re ok, right? I’m sorry.”

In front of him, a hand was stretched, offering to help him getting up. Jaehwan might as well accepted it and apologized since he, too, did not see to his way either being too engrossed reading the book.

But something totally caught his attention. There, on the boy’s pinky finger, a red string was tied. Its string stretched and ended on the knot of Jaehwan’s pinky finge-

Wait.

Jaehwan’s eyes widened as he looked up to meet the familiar boy whose expression was mirroring him. Cat eyes looking surprise at Jaehwan’s pinky finger then at his own. After a second, their eyes met.

Oh.

The boy cleared his throat before pulling back his hand, completely standing up as his eyes traveled elsewhere.

“Seems like you’re ok. Once again, I’m really sorry.” He said in his soft voice before sprinting away, leaving stunt Jaehwan still sat there.

He knew that boy. He surely knew that person, but there was no way they…right?

Jaehwan shook his head and quickly looked around to find the book. His eyes run the same page he read before. He remembered there was this important line he missed to read as he fell earlier.

This thing may stretch or tangle, but never break.

Jaehwan let the book drop on his lap as he closed his eyes, ‘No.freaking.way.’
