Spring Cleaning

Description

It's been a year since Jeonghan and Taemin broke up, although they've remained roommates. Because Taemin is so fragile, Jeonghan has tried extremely hard to suppress his sadness and be there for his hyung when he's needed. However, it seems like the higher powers have a different plan for them when Jeonghan finds a very special box hidden in the back of their closet.

A/N: If you know anything about roleplaying on tumblr, you'll understand how this ship happened

Foreword

Grumbles came tumbling out of the closet, along with a few well placed curses here and there. Jeonghan hated cleaning more than anything else in the world, and since his roommate was at work he had to tend to the spring cleaning himself. Sometimes being unemployed had severe disadvantages. He heaved an overexaggerated sigh as he tossed out some of his old textbooks into a pile of things to donate. Since he'd graduated several months ago, he really didn't see any reason to keep them. In his circle of friends he was the baby, and no one was really considering going back to college soon. Maybe Daejung or Minjung, or even Jinsang, but he doubted they were going to study marine biology. To the Goodwill pile they went. Nearby sat his ferret, watching his every move. "Why don't you come over here and help me you freeloader?" he asked the small animal, grinning when he hears the little chatter he gets in respone. Catsnake was probably his spirit animal, considering how sassy he acted half the time. Giggling quietly, he went back to his cleaning of the closet.

A glint of something silver instantly made Jeonghan's laughter die down. A silent prayer raced through his mind that it was something, anything, besides what he thought it was. He was nowhere near ready to face this and acknowledge it. Jeonghan, however, had never been that lucky. After brushing aside a few rogue dust bunnies, he lifted the small picture frame. Inside was a simple photo, one of him and his roommate, leaning on each other on their couch in the middle of the night. Taemin looked exhausted, but nevertheless was holding Jeonghan close and smiling. The emotions Jeonghan had tried so hard to suppress over the past year hit him like a freight train as he studied that familiar smile, the one that always made him feel at home. He wasn't ready, not at all, for the sudden ache in his heart that hurt so much that he hugged himself to make sure he wasn't physically being ripped in two.

A year had passed. A whole year, although it seemed like less than 24 hours. Nearly a year to the day, he and Taemin had broken things off and gone back to being nothing more than friends. Not much had changed since then. He still woke Taemin up in the middle of the night when he was bored from being awake due to insomnia, Taemin still held his hand when they walked together or whenever he got scared. Jeonghan hadn't even made Taemin move out of the apartment; they were still roommates. The only real moving out that Taemin had done was moving into the second bedroom instead of sharing one with Jeonghan. It was almost the same, and to Jeonghan that hurt a million times worse than if Taemin had just disappeared from his life forever. He had wanted to be strong for his hyung that he knew was so broken, and in trying to do that he'd acted completely fine for the past year. No tears were ever shed, no grieving ever occured. Jeonghan had appeared to bounce back easily, not even moping on the day that it had happened. Key had offered the simple explanation that Taemin needed to find his soulmate. Since Jeonghan had never truly believed in soulmates, the reason Key had given him for their relationship's end had hit him like a brick. He'd thought Taemin might stay with him forever; in a month it was over.

To distract himself he tosses the frame into the trash pile and pulls another box closer so that he could inspect the contents. It was plain cardboard, with no indication of what might be inside. Tying his long hair back out of his face, Jeonghan turns it over and dumps it out. Out spilled handfuls of photos and little mementos, and tears were instantly flowing from his eyes. Every litte thing was a photo of him and Taemin, or some little trinket he'd been given. A few were extremely simple, like a rock Taemin might've thought was pretty or a few seashells from their vacation together in Ireland. However, no matter how small, each item was so incredibly precious to him. The floodgates broke, and the tears he'd kept inside for so long came spilling out as wave after wave of sobs overtook him. So many memories flashed through his mind, fighting for dominance. Stupid. He'd been so so stupid to ever let Taemin go. There was no denying it; he was in love with Taemin. He'd thought at first that he'd just loved Taemin, but now it was clear just how deep his emotions ran. It was in that moment that Jeonghan knew once and for all that he believed in soulmates. He believed in them, and he believed Taemin was his. It was foolish to have let him slip through his fingers so easily, and at this moment there was nothing that he wanted more than to have Taemin to call his own again.

Jeonghan began to sort through the assortment of keepsakes, neatly placing each one back into the box with the utmost care. Nothing from this box could be thrown away. He felt numb as he picked up tshirts, rocks, shells, love letters, and seemingly endless photographs one by one. Why did they take so many damn photos? He had just picked up the last one when he felt compelled to pause, staring at it. It was one Shoko had taken, and he felt a fresh round of tears rise up while he looked at it. It was from the day he'd taken Taemin to Disneyland for the first time. Jeonghan had his arms wrapped around the older male, both of them wearing matching Mickey ears. They had been so absurdly happy back then, and he longed for that feeling once again.

Jeonghan had just finished putting all of the things away when the front door opened, indicating that Taemin was home from work. "Jeonghan! I brought dinner!" Just the sound of his voice sent an electric shock through his body. He stood and sprinted to the door, slamming into Taemin. The elder yelped and hit the floor, not expecting the sudden collision. "H-hannie?!" he squeaks, looking at Jeonghan. Jeonghan smiles through his tears and buries his face in Taemin's neck, whispering softly, "You're my soulmate." Taemin's eyes widened. "What? What did you say?" Jeonghan just smiles more. "I believe you....welcome home, hyung." Taemin is hit with the urge to cry. "Jeonghan...." His grip on the younger boy tightened, and he gave a little laugh. "I love you....I missed you..." Jeonghan leans up, pressing his lips to Taemin's softer ones. "I love you too...forever..."

A/N: I went ahead and just put the thing in the foreword because forewords are annoying to write OTL again, if you've ever roleplayed on tumblr you'll understand that these crack ships appear out of nowhere. I'm putting this out here right now to see how people react to Jeongmin, so if it's positively received I'll go through and make an actual chaptered story of these two. Leave me feedback please! c:
