After The Sun Shines

Description

I’m not you.

Football doesn’t make me smile.

Unpaid bills don’t make me cry.

Alcohol after a long day of work doesn’t excite me.

                                                                                    And you’re not me.

The comfort of a friend after a rough test isn’t needed.

Unreasonable and completely illogical love isn’t accepted.

The simple happiness of little things isn’t acknowledged.

But don’t forget this – although our notes don’t match, we’re a beautiful song sung together.

Foreword

The clink of a doorbell echoes through the quiet room, and the three that were there turned their heads to see who came. Kim Yerim, the new part-timer that was seventeen years young, smiled at the customer and bowed. “Welcome to Rocky’s. May I help you with your order?”

The man stared for a while at her, and then at the menu, and then back at her. Just taking in her features. He smiled unexplainably. “Iced hazelnut caramel latte, please,” he gasped for a second before quickly adding, “Oh! And with marshmallows and whipped cream too.” Yerim chuckled a bit at the man’s peculiar order – he looked almost forty yet he ordered what high schooler would during their lunch breaks.

She sweetly answered as she went behind the counter, “Your order would be ready in five minutes, please wait at your table sir,” entering the customer’s order to the system, the man interjects. “I’ll be waiting for the chocolate chip cookies too, then.”

Yerim giggled and nod. The man surely liked sweet food.

On the other side of the café, Shin Hoseok, the head of ARABANG – Busan’s most successful real estate company, called out to a friend he hadn’t seen in years. “Seokmin! Here, here!”

Lee Seokmin rushed to his friend happily after ordering the, in his opinion, most obnoxious drink and food he hadn’t touched in years. High-fives and hugs were exchanged, and the two men chatted joyfully, catching up on where the friendship last faded. “How’s your business? Man, that headshot of you in that fancy-looking business magazine was awesome! You look thirty, really.” The two laughed at Seokmin’s joke, and Hoseok seemed gleeful about the comment.

“Glad that I looked young – I had to threaten the editor to photoshop my pictures. Sometimes interviews are such a hassle,” replied Hoseok, earning another round of laughter. “How about you? Are things good?”

Seokmin thought for a while before smiling genuinely and nod, “Things are good. I’m just grateful for everything at this moment, to tell you the truth,” Hoseok sympathized with him and nod.

“You know what – talking about looking young and being grateful – did you go to the cinema recently?”

Seokmin tilted his head to the right, trying to figure out what Hoseok was talking about. He finally understood what Hoseok meant when he recalled the ongoing promotions of the local blockbuster movie - 'Rainfalls' . “Oh! Yeah, of course.” A sigh escaped his lips and he smiled, remembering the old days. “She looks as beautiful as ever - as expected from the beauty queen of our university, no?”

Hoseok’s eyes glint with excitement at Seokmin’s response. “Well, do you want to meet her?”

“Wait, what-?”

“Because she’s here.”

Fifteen minutes has passed since Seokmin first entered into the café, and now the second doorbell clink was heard. Yerim was about to greet the new customer, but she stopped in shock – the hottest top star in Asia just popped out right in front of her. “W-welcome to Rocky’s…” she whispered in awe. She’s going to tell everyone at school that she just crossed paths with Ng Sze Kai – better known as Shin – during her part-time work that she used to hate.

Clad in an elegant white dress with red pumps and an outer, Ng Sze Kai took off her sunglasses, looking around to find the man she was supposed to meet that night.

“Shin!” The familiar voice of Shin Hoseok made her smile and she was about to approach him until she realized who was the man sitting in front of Hoseok – her past.

“Lee Seokmin?”
