Forgotten

Nyctophilia

Wonwoo was excited, to say the very least, as he was on his way to work in the morning. He was jittery and could hardly sleep (though that was a common situation in Wonwoo's life).

He could not find it in him to nap on the way to work and Jisoo was surprised to see his friend come in just about an hour earlier than he had been expecting him.

"You look incredibly happy today," Jisoo mentioned as Wonwoo passed by him after he had entered the store.

"Do I? I didn't really notice." Wonwoo said back, but he did notice.

"Are you going to tell me about it?" Jisoo asked. Wonwoo smiled and gave in. He told Jisoo of his night and told him about the barista and the hot chocolate and how Wonwoo could hardly sleep because he had felt too warm in the heart to even close his eyes at all. Jisoo listened carefully and smiled warmly at the end of it all.

"So you do have a crush on him after all," He said. Wonwoo was going to protest but the soft jingle of the store door rang and Jisoo stood to greet whomever came in. The customer, with slightly long hair and delicate features came in.

"Jeonghan, so nice to see you." Jisoo said with a welcoming smile. "Did you get a haircut? It suits you."

Wonwoo did not miss the flustered expression Jeonghan wore before answering.

"Y-Yes I did. Thank you. Uhm, I came to see if you had more advanced books on guitar?"

Jisoo nodded and opened his arm to gesture to the section of guitar books that he himself had read in his spare time. Wonwoo knew those books were selected by Jisoo's personal suggestion and were of high quality. Jisoo would never let anyone but himself touch those books.

Jeonghan looked carefully through the selection, before settling on two of them. Jisoo made small talk, asking about Jeonghan's progress. In return, Jeonghan stammered that he was working hard and was trying his very best.

Wonwoo couldn't help but notice how rough his fingers looked when he rang up the books for the long haired male.

He really must be working hard to impress Jisoo, he thought.

Wonwoo grew tired of hearing Jisoo's and Jeonghan's small talk and zoned out from their thoughts on guitars and various other conversation regarding to all the other books Jeonghan had bought previously. Wonwoo wondered whether or not Jisoo knew Jeonghan was working so hard for the bookkeeper's sake at all.

Eventually the time would come when Jisoo would ask Wonwoo if the latter was ready for lunch, and Wonwoo suggested the place almost immediately.

The cafe.

All he wanted to do was go to the cafe.

Jisoo and said he only wanted to see the barista and Wonwoo swore that wasn't the truth (we all know it was) and he swore he only wanted to go because the pastries were sweet and delectable there. Jisoo only laughed and followed the other down the the street to the cafe.

It was lively, as Wonwoo would have predicted. Girls made up most of the customers, swooning over the baristas and ordering massive orders with drinks Wonwoo could hardly name.

It was hard for Wonwoo to even squeeze into the small shop because the line had pushed it's way past the front door. Jisoo stood at the very end to preserve their spot while Wonwoo squeezed past to look at the menu (he wanted to look at Mingyu more though).

Mingyu was in there; it was hard not to see the tall male. He worked the machines gracefully and quickly and passed drinks around with the same smile Wonwoo had seen the day before. Wonwoo felt really warm inside from seeing him, and he wanted to go up and talk with the barista like he did the night before.

Unfortunately, Wonwoo knew he could not do that, especially when it was this busy. He knew better than that, but it still made him feel deflated.

Wonwoo pushed back and met with Jisoo in his place behind the line.

"Did you see him or did you check what you wanted to order?" Jisoo asked as soon as he saw Wonwoo.

"Neither. It's too busy." Wonwoo said, looking dejected.

"We can get lunch somewhere else and come back here for a break. How does that sound?"

Wonwoo simply nodded and stepped out of line. Jisoo followed. They headed to the noodle shop two streets down that they went to previously. They ate their lunch and Wonwoo found it hard to mask the fact he felt down about not seeing Mingyu earlier but with Jisoo offering a chance to see him later, then he didn't feel too bad.

"Hey, you." A voice said.

Jisoo turned to look at something behind Wonwoo, causing the raven-haired male to look back. Behind him, he saw the other male he had seen with Mingyu the night before. The customer whom Wonwoo thought was the last customer of the cafe.

"Can we help you with something?" Jisoo asked, politely. The other ignored Jisoo and instead looked down at Wonwoo with a look Wonwoo could not explain. This stranger was smaller than both bookkeepers and had a round cute face. His eyes said otherwise and looked like he planned to commit murder.

"I remember you," He said. "You stayed at the cafe after I left."

"Y-Yeah? And?" Wonwoo stammered.

"You like Mingyu, don't you? I can tell you do so I'm warning you now." He said, gravely. "Leave Mingyu alone."

Wonwoo felt his jaw clench. He didn't have any words to say back and the stranger somehow knew so he left without another word. after awhile, Jisoo made a sound, similar to annoyed groan, before speaking.

"What on earth was that about?" He asked, confused.

"I wish I knew." Wonwoo mumbled.

The rest of the day became a blur to Wonwoo. He wasn't sure what to make of what the stranger said and  slowly wondered why such a stranger would warn him like that.

Did that stranger like Mingyu? Did he have a relationship with Mingyu? Or maybe Mingyu was a bad person and that person knew about it?

Wonwoo didn't know, and it was driving him crazy.

"You shouldn't worry about it, you know." He heard Jisoo saying from behind a bookshelf. Wonwoo looked up and blew at his bangs.

"It's been written all over your face since we left the shop."

"You can't even see my face." The raven-haired male said back. He heard Jisoo chuckle.

The other didn't know what to say to that and instead set his head on the back table. After a minute or two, Jisoo appeared and he came to sit next to Wonwoo.

"You know you can still go see him." Jisoo said as he set a small pile of books in front of Wonwoo. Wonwoo couldn't help but notice they were mostly romance novels. "He did warn you to stay away but you can still see him if you wanted."

"And if that guy decides to kill me?" Wonwoo asks.

"Don't worry, you're way taller than the other guy." Jisoo replied back jokingly but Wonwoo somehow did not think it was that funny.

In the end, Wonwoo decided to go see Mingyu again later that day. Jisoo convinced him not to care about what the stranger had said, and Wonwoo believed that he shouldn't have made so many assumptions about Mingyu when he had only known the other for one night.

He was sure Mingyu was a good person.

He betted his whole life on it.

The population in the cafe dwindled sometime in the late afternoon and fortunately Jisoo allowed Wonwoo to have a break from the bookstore. Wonwoo stood in front of the window of the cafe, making sure the other stranger wasn't in there. Luckily, he wasn't.

Wonwoo went in, shyly and was greeted by a different barista. His name tag read 'Seokmin'.

"Hi, welcome in!" He said with a dazzling smile. His eyes seemed to disappear when he smiled and he seemed almost as radiant as the sun just then.

"O-Oh, hi.." Wonwoo said back, quietly.

"Is there something in particular you wanted today?" The barista Seokmin, asked. Wonwoo shook his head and looked at the menu, though he had no intention of reading it. He wanted to look around and see if Mingyu was there.

"Is your name Wonwoo by any chance?" Seokmin asked nonchalantly. Wonwoo almost tripped on air. "Your expression says its you."

"H-How'd you know?" Wonwoo asked.

"Mingyu described you." Seokmin said, though Wonwoo saw how his smile was slowly faltering into a sad smile of some sort. "Sorry to break it to you but Mingyu isn't someone you should be trying to get into romantic relationship with if that's what you're looking for."

"Did you say my name, Seokmin?"

Wonwoo recognised Mingyu's voice as he heard footsteps coming from down the apartment stairs leading to the above apartment. Seokmin and Wonwoo looked in Mingyu's direction just as the other appeared. Mingyu stood and looked between Seokmin and Wonwoo, then tilted his head in confusion.

"Did something happen?"

"Nothing at all, Mingyu!" Seokmin said, cheerfully. "I told you that you were on break, why do you keep coming down here?"

"Because you keep sending me up there for no reason at all." Mingyu said back. He approached the counter and flipped it up, while also grabbing an apron from a hanger. He tied it to his waist in seconds and began running the machines.

"Excuse me but did he get your order, sir?" Mingyu asked, out loud.

Confused, Wonwoo looked around. No one else was in there besides him.

"Me?"

"Yes, you, sir. Has Seokmin gotten your order?"

Seokmin gave Wonwoo a side glance before sighing.

"I did not."

"Then, what would like to order?" Mingyu asked, turning to Wonwoo. Wonwoo didn't know what to say and muttered a soft "hot chocolate, please".

"That's a good choice." Mingyu said with a grin. Wonwoo watched as Mingyu turned and started working. He made no mention to the other night nor did his face show any expression of seeing Wonwoo again.

"Seokmin was probably chatting you up, right?" Mingyu said, teasingly. "You are kinda cute so I don't blame him."

"I did not!" Seokmin protested.

Wonwoo flushed and looked away from both baristas as they began to bicker like old friends. Wonwoo wondered if that was the case between them.

Wonwoo watched in awe as Mingyu worked. The other worked swiftly like he had danced behind that counter a million times. He knew exactly where everything was at and knew exact measurements to every cup. It surprised Wonwoo, and reminded him of how Jisoo knew exactly where every book sat on the shelves of the bookstore.

"I'm handsome, aren't I?" Mingyu then teased, like he had the first time he and Wonwoo had met. Wonwoo smiled but did not agree or disagree.

"You need to stop flirting." Seokmin said with a slight frown.

"You flirt with everyone that walks in, what do you mean?" Mingyu said, chuckling when Seokmin looked like he was going to argue back. The other barista surprisingly remained silent.

Wonwoo found Mingyu even more endearing than before, now looking at his reactions with his fellow friend/co-worker. He seemed so carefree and natural, unlike Wonwoo who was socially awkward and weird.

"It's done." Mingyu remarked. "Is this here, or to go?"

"To go, please."

"Okay, what's your name?"

The question struck Wonwoo as somewhat strange. He furrowed his eyebrows in his confusion.

"Wait, what?"

"Your name. What's your name?" Mingyu repeated. Wonwoo could only stare as Mingyu stared back with the sharpie marker in his hand, ready to write down this customer's name on his coffee cup.

"Don't you know my name?" Wonwoo asked, though he was also uncertain. Maybe he was so tired last time that he forgot to mention it, and it was all some sort of dream? Had he completely imagined Mingyu learning his name?

"No, sir. I don't but it would be a pleasure if you told me." Mingyu said as politely as he could. He was thinking that maybe he had made a mistake and perhaps this customer had came in earlier that day, and he had already asked for his name or perhaps he had already mentioned it in the conversation.

No, Mingyu thought, I would never forget a face as good looking as his.

Seokmin was going to say something but was cut off as the door opened and someone came in. Wonwoo turned to see the stranger from before and the look on his face told him that he was he was very unhappy with seeing Wonwoo there in the cafe, speaking to Mingyu no less.

"Didn't I tell you to stay away?" He growled in a low tone. Wonwoo didn't have the chance to say anything as the other took him by the arm and yanked backward. The stranger was a lot stronger than Wonwoo had thought and managed to shove Wonwoo out into the cold. The smaller male then procceeded to lock the cafe door and glared at Wonwoo before turning away. The raven-haired male then saw the same small stranger closing the cafe blinds and a small glimpse of Mingyu looking at him, hot chocolate cup still in his hand.

There was nothing Wonwoo could explain to Jisoo when he returned to work. He himself could not interpret what had happened down at the cafe, much less explain to someone else.

He could only tell Jisoo that Mingyu had forgotten him completely.

"This must be some type of joke, or something." Jisoo grumbled when Wonwoo failed to explain what happened. "How can someone just forget? Maybe he isn't all he seems to be if he pretends he doesn't even know you, Wonwoo."

Wonwoo wanted to agree but something deep down in his mind told him that wasn't it.

Wonwoo went home and when the world went to sleep, he went on his nightly walk. The moon seemed to be his only company that day because not a single car passed nor did some stranger. It was so cold that Wonwoo could hardly feel his fingers after thirty minutes.

"What I would give for some hot chocolate right now," Wonwoo muttered to himself while breathing onto his hands. He remembered the feeling of the hot mug of hot chocolate felt in his hands and he sighed to himself.

His mind eventually turned off and when he finally came to, he found himself in front Jisoo's book shop again. The streets remained quiet as Wonwoo thought to himself, deciding whether or not to go into the bookshop or stay on the front step to freeze himself to sleep.

Wonwoo then looked up the street, catching sight of the cafe, with it's bright lights. Something in Wonwoo told him to stay where he was but a bigger part of him told him to go see Mingyu one more time. Then Wonwoo was sure he'd be satisfied.

The walk there felt too quick and Wonwoo found himself in front of the window, basking in the lights of the cafe. The faint scent of coffee remained hovering over the small shop and it somehow made him sleepy.

Wonwoo stared to see if Mingyu was in there, and he was. Again, he was the only barista working that night, shuffling around and cleaning tables and whatnot.

Working up his courage, Wonwoo takes a step towards the door but something or someone yanks him right back to step one.

"You really don't quit."

Wonwoo turns to tower over the stranger from before, small and petite now that Wonwoo stands before him but strangely Wonwoo is the feeling small.

"Seokmin told me what happened." The other said. "How Mingyu doesn't know your name. It's not his fault."

"It's just a joke, isn't it?" Wonwoo asked, though fearful of this tiny stranger.

"Joke? You think this is a joke? If Mingyu could remember then he would!" The other huffed before turning to sigh tiredly. "Like I said.. It isn't his fault."

"What do you mean?"

"I'm saying that Mingyu doesn't have the ability to remember you."

Wonwoo takes in the information  and tries to piece everything together. After the short pause, he comes to a conclusion.

"You're saying Mingyu has amnesia?"

The stranger nods and folds his arms across his chest.

"I don't mean to come off as evil to you, but you should leave Mingyu alone. He'll forget about you today just like he did the other day. No matter what, you'll just be forgotten by him."

Wow, it's good so far. Interesting. I'm just wondering what kind of amnesia Mingyu has, is it like he loses all the memory he gained that day when he sleeps? I only heard of few amnesia cases but this is pretty new to me? So yeah keep going because you got me hook!

P.S: That guy is Jihoon, I could tell with your description of him. He's really scary .w.
