02. Drawer
Soft metal clicked as Jaejoong entered his condominium; so big and spaceful, glamorous and cold, silent and lonely. Throwing his keys into a round ashtray shaped as an elephant was the first thing he did as he took off his shirt. A good shower would be perfect to end his day, like always.
Then, he heated up leftover from yesterday night; it’s kimchi jjigae and tteokbokki. He cooked them last night when Yoochun and Junsu came to visit. Both of his dongsaeng couldn’t get enough of his cooking. He even had to remind Junsu he needed to stay slim enough to his upcoming musical, Death Note. How Jaejoong wished he could come and watch but soon he would go to his military service.
Finished eating, he did the dishes and then poured himself a drink for his hard work through the day. He deserved a drink or at least a glass of vintage wine his fanboy gave him. He was sure the wine was as old as him; just like that person’s age.
Sitting on his big couch, Jaejoong the music on his stereo. It’s a slow ballad song. He remixed the thing and ironically, one particular sad song he always listened when everything was too overwhelming played.
It’s his crying song or so he told the rest of the world. This song was special because it’s so touching and he’s a sensitive person inside; a lie he made. The real reason was because this song was the first song he heard in a bar once he ended everything with him.
If only he wasn’t Kim Jaejoong and they weren’t born in Korea, maybe in America or other Western country, they could be. Yet, he knew it was impossible in this life.
There’s no way he could be with Jung Yunho as much as he wished for it. He knew Yunho felt the same too. It’s almost like the air was choking your throat when you had something you wished for in front of your grasp but you couldn’t have it.
Kim Jaejoong was afraid; he would be no one without his song and idol career. Flashes of memories came across his mind as he gulped the sinful liquid. Those old days seemed so far away and could be easily forgotten, yet he could never forget; especially how five of them spent time together eating his cooking. Now, there’re only Junsu and Yoochun; and mostly himself.
Jaejoong wondered was it all a lie? Everything that happened made him who he’s now, but it felt so distant. He kept convincing himself, it’s a phase of his life. He couldn’t change it and he hated that each and every one that beautifully deceived him. He almost lost his heart and went numb entirely if he didn’t escape that living hell. Yet, the same hell was the one who made him today.
Closing his eyes as tears slipped out from the corner of his eyes, Jaejoong opened a drawer next to him. There’s one picture he treasured the most in the world, last picture of him and Yunho together. Now, they’re like under a different sun. How he wished he could still laugh next to him. If only Yunho would wait for him as he would, things could be different, but maybe this’s their destiny; buried inside a drawer.
