the boy next door

"It's suicide." The officer stared blankly back to the body that was dangling inside the wardrobe, with nothing else to say to the landowner the officer made his way to the exit.

"Wait! Officer, are you not mistaken? Suicide? He's not the type of boy to-" It only took one piercing glare to stop the old man from continuing his sentence, and it only took one move to snap his neck. The killer reached back into his pocket and pulled out a pair of latex gloves, they were still sticky from the blood of the previous victim. He pulled down his police hat even further down his head, in fear that somebody was watching him.

"I guess it will look a bit weird if there are two suicides in the time of one day..." The man couldn't help but burst into laughter, the thing he was least worried about was discretion. "Hmmm, well I guess I have no choice." He tiptoed around the body below him and grabbed the landowners leg, and then proceeded to drag it towards the window. The room was exactly on floor 11; probably high enough for the impact to kill somebody unless of course they had been killed beforehand.

"Oops! My hands slipped." He looked down in wonder at the sight of the body floating down, and a laugh escaped once hearing the body make contact with the pavement. It was the sirens that brought the killer back to life and was the reason why he disappeared.

/// THREE MONTHS LATER ///

"How much per month?!"

Oh Sehun stood soaked in rain inside the apartment building, his arms were pre-occupied with the heavy luggage that was slowly draining his energy. After visiting all the cheap apartment complexes in Seoul and, of course, after all, their prices exceeded his limit he, unfortunately, had to decline. And so now after hearing the price for a simple one-bedroom apartment, he couldn't believe his luck.

"Sir, if you're not happy with the price trust me I'll lower it!" The owner was now on her knees, her eyes were brimmed with tears and full of desperation. "Please, take any apartment you want. We need all the people we can- and if you have any homeless friends tell them to rent an apartment here, okay?" The lady rushed back into her office before waiting for an answer; Sehun hopelessly sighed.

"It's cheap and it's an apartment- it's the best I'm gonna get." The owner soon emerged from the office door with her hands full of documents; she gave a reassuring smile before handing them over, she shoved her hand through the gap and begun choosing a key from the wall.

"It's more exciting when I don't look- it's like fate." Her eyes shone in wonder and snapped back to reality once her fingers touched the cold metallic key, she gave another pathetic smile before placing the key into Sehun's hands. "If you feel more comfortable with calling me 'ahjumma' then you can." It seemed that she was attempting to do anything to ensure he would stay and whether Sehun would stay or not was yet to be answered.

"Thanks... Ahjumma..." Sehun meekly smiled one last time before making his way to the elevator; what confused him the most was that the landowner seemed to be young and nearing her mid-twenties, and she wanted to be called ahjumma? A sudden shiver prickled down his spine and his grasp on his luggage tightened, the elevator doors slammed shut and the drone of tacky music echoed into the moving metal box.

Sehun couldn't help but peer behind his shoulder but all he saw was the reflection of himself, well, some form of himself. The mirrors were piled up with dirt and a horrid smell spanned through the pipes; now he began to understand why the lady was so desperate for a tenant, the building had probably never met another human being for the past months. That was where he was wrong. In fact, the building was host to a human- well, he was once a human but now... There were many words to describe him, and his favourite was 'ghost'.

"Yah! Do you live under a rock? Do you not know what's happened here? I'm pretty famous nowadays- I thought everybody knew about me." Behind Sehun stood a nonchalant man; he was stained with a sickly pale tone to his face and his neck was sprawled with decaying blood. He huffed and rolled his eyes, almost as if he expected the naive boy to have heard him.

"Tsk, stupid humans-" He paused once face to face with the boy, and began to engage in a staring contest. Of course, the human lost. His eyes continued to fixate onto the living creature, and the more he stayed the more he hoped that the human would be able to see him. "You're pretty cute- for someone who's alive." Almost as if in response Sehun smiled, this time, it was genuine and Sehun had no idea as to why. The dead boy observed from a distance; maybe it was the fear of becoming too attached or maybe it was just so he could check out the human's .

"Through this short time I've gotten fond of you and your - I guess I'll have to wait a few more days until I have to kill you." The handsome ghost maneuvered himself so that he was now standing next to the living boy, out of curiosity his hand reached for the boy's hair but what he didn't expect was the boy to feel his touch.

Sehun jolted at the sudden feeling of his hair, and his eyes flashed to where the ghost had been standing. However instead of seeing his reflection looking back at him, he saw a blur of movement, and then the elevator halted and the lights shut down.

"Just because I can't kill him yet doesn't mean I can't have fun."
