Kris needs a Queen, so he and the council decided to have 20 girls who will live with Prince Kris for one month. At the end of the month he has to choose one woman who will become his Queen. Mei's mom, Leigh, was supposed to marry the Emperor, but instead, the Emperor fell in love with her hand maiden and Leigh fell in love with her personal guard named Jin. Leigh and Jin got married and promised the Emperor and his new Empress that they will always protect them. The two families grew up together; Leigh and Jin had a daughter named Mei and the Emperor and Empress had a son named Kris.
