Lion Heart (Part 1)

YOONYUL CONVOS: A SERIES OF ONE-SHOTS

Hello~ I'm back with another one shot. I know you want me to update my other fics. I'll update them soon. Just a little fact about this one-shot: I had this plot for a long time now. Actually, when i saw SNSD Lion Heart M/V, i formed this story. Since real life happened, i postponed it. I went far away for a vacation so that i could write it and finally i made it! It is intended to be one-shot only but i enjoyed writing it, so it became two-parts. I'm currently writing the second half of it eventhough i have important write ups that needs to pass :D So, to cut the story short, i hope you'll enjoy this simple fluff :)

P.S: Please listen to this version of Lion Heart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56VreJzYtu0 This is the version that i really liked and it fits the story :)

Enjoy!

*THUD!*

The little girl was startled when a photo album fell as she looked through their family library. Curious as a cat, the little child grabbed the heavy book and ran.

“Halmoni! Halmoni!” the little girl yelled towards the old woman who was busy dusting off the paintings on the wall. She smiled as she looked at the painting. It’s a portrait of eight beautiful young women.

‘Ah, seeing this reminds me of my youth. All the reckless things I’ve done are irreplaceable.’ The old woman reminisced.

“Halmoni!” The little girl pulled the hem of the old woman’s dress which made the woman went back to reality. She looked down and saw her granddaughter holding a very old photo album.

“Aigoo~ my Sooyoung-ah, where did you get this?” the old woman said as she helped her granddaughter with the album that she’s holding and lead her to a nearby sofa.

“I got that from your library, halmoni.” Sooyoung smiled her toothless smile which made the old woman smiled back.

“Really? Aigoo~ you’re such a little explorer, don’t you, my Sooyoung-ah?” the old woman giggled at her granddaughter’s silliness. She, then, dusted of the remaining dust from the album.

“What is it, halmoni?” the little girl asked.

“This one is a photo album that held lots of great memories, Sooyoung-ah.” The old woman said as she opened the photo album. She smiled immediately at the sight.

“Woah~ so pretty ladies, which one are you, halmoni?” Sooyoung asked.

On the photo, there are 8 beautiful young ladies. They are posing in front of the large wall clock inside the train station. They were all smiling and hugging each other as if they’ve succeeded on doing something in their lives.

Ah~ it’s as if it’s like yesterday...’ the old woman smiled as she reminisced the old times.

“This is me, Sooyoung-ah.” The old woman pointed at one of the short haired girls and the tallest one among them.

“You’re so pretty, halmoni!” the little girl exclaimed which made the old woman smile. One would definitely agree with the little girl. Her grandmother hadn’t change a bit from her younger years. Well, except that her gray hair got longer which is past by her shoulders and her wrinkles since she’s getting older. But despite of that, she’s still as beautiful as ever. It’s like seeing the definition of timeless beauty in person.

“Well, since you’re my granddaughter, I would have to agree with that. But do you know that the girls that I’m with were much prettier, Sooyoung-ah.” The old lady patted her granddaughter’s head.

“Aniyo~ you’re pretty, halmoni.” Little Sooyoung whined.

The grandmother smiled. If her young self is hearing this, she’ll probably boast it to her friends right now.

She definitely missed them.

“All right, if that’s what you prefer. Can’t argue with that.” The old lady chuckled. Then, the two of them continued looking at the photos. There were photos of them doing weird poses by the train station, in the car, and even posing elegantly for their portraits.

“Halmoni?” Sooyoung asked.

“Ne, my Sooyoung-ah?”

“I noticed that two of your pretty friends are always together in the photos. Are they best-est best friends or something?”

The old lady looked at the photo and saw what her granddaughter is talking about. She smiled at the sight. It’s a photo of two of her friends.  Both of them were very gorgeous and tall but not much taller than her. One of the girls, the tanned one, has her raven hair in a slight wave while she’s wearing a flowery dress. Her arms were linked to another beautiful lady with her brown hair tied in a pony tail. She’s wearing a brown blouse and darker brown pants.  Her free hand was on top of the other girl’s linked arm while kissing the tanned girl’s forehead.

It’s her favorite among all photos.

“Well, my Sooyoung-ah, they are more than best friends. They are in love.” The old lady replied to her daughter.

“In love like eomma and appa?” the little girl asked as she looked at the photo. “But they are both girls!”

The old lady smiled and said, “They can still be in love with each other, Sooyoung-ah.”

She saw the confusion on the little girl’s face and con tinued, “You’re too young to understand. How about I tell you a story?”

“A story?”

“Yeah, a story.” The old lady smiled.  “A story that explains how love works it’s magic on us.”

*Flashback*

“SOOYOUNG-AH!”

The young woman heard her name being yelled by a woman outside. She sighed back into her pillows.

“Uggh, what is it this time?” she mumbled into her pillows and begrudgingly rose from her bed and went to her nearby vanity desk. She sat on the chair by the vanity desk and started to brush her hair. She looked at the mirror and sighed, “How can they not let their pretty child go to sleep at this hour?” she said. “Don’t they know that she might get ugly if they let this be? How can she find a perfect man if they let her wake up at this hour.”

Sooyoung looked at the wall clock behind her and it’s already five minutes to ten. She exhaled and grabbed her things so she could have a shower.

~~~
“Aigoo~ you are so pretty. You got even prettier since the last time I saw you.” Sooyoung heard her mother cooing at someone.
“YAH EOMMA!  WHHY ARE YOU WAKING ME UP SO EARLY?! DON’T YOU KNOW THAT PRETTY GIRLS SLEEP LONGER!” Sooyoung yelled at her mom but eventually stopped when she saw the person her mom is talking to.
“OMO! IM YOOOONNNAAAA!!!!” The tall girl yelled and hugged the pretty girl.
“Uhhh…Soo- i-I can’t breathe.” The pretty girl said with her soft voice. Sooyoung mumbled her apology and pulled away from the young girl. She took a good look of her best friend. It’s been a while since she saw her. She’s still as beautiful as ever with her long brown hair, milky white skin and big doe eyes.
“Damn, Yoong, you’re getting prettier!” Sooyoung friend.
“Eeeyy~ shut up.” Yoona smiled at her best friend.
“So what are you doing here, Yoong?” Sooyoung asked as she led them to the nearby sofa while her mother grabbed their snacks.
“I’m here for a vacation, Soo.” Yoona smiled at her friend which made her gasped.
“Jinjja?! Is that real?” Sooyoung grabbed her best friend’s shoulder to shake.
It’s a rare occasion that Yoona will be allowed to get out by her family. It’s either they get to see each other when Sooyoung get to visit their relatives in the city or not at all.
“Yeah, it’s for real, Soo.” Yoona said as she stopped her friend from further shaking her.
“Why would they let you go out this time?” Sooyoung asked.
Since they were young, they have been friends. Sooyoung knew that Yoona’s parents wouldn’t let their only girl wander around outside the camp.
Yes, camp.
Yoona has been living her living all her life inside a training camp with her adoptive father who is a general. Her biological mother left her by gates of the training camp and her adoptive mother found her there who has a dying illness. She died when Yoona was just three and since then, it’s been her and her dad.
Yoona just shrugged her shoulders and said, “I don’t know. Maybe they realized that I’m old enough to travel and see the world.”
Sooyoung smiled at her best friend and said, “I’m happy for you. You’ll like it here. The people are really nice. I’ll show you around.”
Yoona’s eyes sparkled at that thought. “Really?! Well, what are we waiting for?! Let’s start this!”
~~
Sooyoung showed her best friend around town. She proudly introduced the doe-eyed girl to every one she knows.
“OMONA, Sooyoung-ah. You have a very pretty friend.” An ahjumma who sells sweet potatoes commented as she marveled at Yoona’s beauty.
Sooyoung grinned at the blushing girl. “Of course, ahjumma. I make friends with pretty girls because I am pretty.”
“Aigoo~ this girl.” The ahjumma rolled her eyes which made them laugh. They bid their goodbye and proceed on walking around.
As they were eating the kimbap they bought along the way, they bumped a young man. He’s the son of Sooyoung’s neighbor, named KyungSan.
“Oh, mianhe Sooyoung-noona.” The young boy apologized.
Sooyoung smiled at the young man. “It’s nothing, Kyungsan.” She noticed that KyungSan is carrying boxes which came from a nearby pastry shop.
“Why are you carrying these boxes, Kyungsan-ah? Let me guess, you’re going to surprise your girlfriend, JeonHee, aren’t you?” Sooyoung teased.
“A-aniyo, S-Sooyoung-noona.” Kyungsan blushed at the mention of her girlfriend. “These are for t-the- uh...we’re helping eomma’s friend who’s going to cook for the Kwons. You’re going to the party, right?”
Sooyoung looked at the young man, confused, “Party?”
“Yeah, don’t you remember? Today’s the day that the Kwons will introduce their only daughter. It’s Yuri’s coming-of-age day.”
Suddenly, Sooyoung remembered. She remembered one of her bestfriends, Tiffany, mentioned it to her but she’s too busy eating her croissant at that time.
“Oh yeah, I remember. We’re supposed to go there later with Pany. Thanks for reminding me, Kyungsan-ah. We better go back home and change.” Sooyoung ruffled the boy’s hair and bid their good bye.
“Soo, w-what is that you’re talking about with that boy?” Yoona finally voiced out as they were walking back to Sooyoung’s home.
“I forgot to tell you. Our town is governed by Governor Kwon SangWoo. I don’t know if you heard him but he’s the most powerful governor in Korea since his family is powerful.” Sooyoung started.
Yoona heard that name from her dad before. She heard that this governor is very stern with his beliefs and his governance that is why his people were very supportive and dependent of him because of the security that he ensures for his people. Yoona was pulled out of her thoughts when Sooyoung continued her story.
“Anyway, he has an only daughter named, Yuri. I have an absolute feeling that you’ll like her when you meet her.” Sooyoung bobbed her eyebrows as she best friend.
“YAH!” Yoona smack her best friend’s head.
“Ouch. I’m serious.” Sooyoung nursed her head. “Kwon Yuri is not an ordinary girl. All of the guys and even girls fall into her charm. We’re not that close because her parents are overprotective of her but my friends are friends with her cousins so, we can go to her party so we could meet her.”
Yoona got curious of who’s this girl that Sooyoung is talking about. Why does everybody is fussing about  her and her party?
‘Is she that important?’ Yoona thought. She shrugged and the two of them started preparing for the party.
~~
Sooyoung and Yoona heard loud music and seeing parked cars as they walked towards Kwon Mansion. Sooyoung whistled upon seeing expensive cars at the sidewalk.
“Wow, I never thought that Yuri’s coming-of-age is as big as this. I wish my coming-of-age will be as grand as what she has.” Sooyoung said to herself.
Yoona couldn’t help but be amazed on what she’s seeing. She never saw a grand party like this except for the important occasions at the camp.
“Why did they put a party for her, Soo?” Yoona asked.
Sooyoung shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe because she’s an only child? Maybe this is a perfect time for her dad to talk to his colleagues about politics? Maybe because Yuri is a “Kwon”? Maybe those things I mentioned.”
Yoona just nodded as they went to the gates and smiled at the guard. He let them in and the two best friends couldn’t help but marveled at the ambiance of the party.
“Damn, Kwon Yuri is one hella lucky.” Sooyoung murmured.
As they looked around the party to find Sooyoung’s friends, they met Kyungsan who’s by the drinks section.
“Sooyoung noona! You brought your friend.” Kyungsan greeted.
“Yeah, I forgot to introduce to you, my best friend, Im Yoona.” Sooyoung smiled as Yoona and Kyungsan bowed at each other.
“Nice to meet you, Yoona-ssi.” Kyungsan blushed at the  smiling Yoona.
“Call me, Yoona-noona, Kyungsan-ah.”
“So, have you seen my friends, Kyungsan-ah?” Sooyoung asked as she looked around.
“Uh…I think I saw them earlier. They were talking with pastry chef’s daughter, Sunny-noona.” Kyungsan replied as he served one of the visitors some punch.
“Oh, okay. I think I saw them. C’mon,Yoong, I’ll introduce you.” Sooyoung pulled her best friend away towards her friends. “Thanks, Kyungsan-ah!”
Sooyoung and Yoona went to her friends who were sitting on the corner. There were talking about  random things when the girls came up to them.
“Hi guys! Miss me?” Sooyoung grinned at her friends. The three rolled their eyes at the silly girl.
“No. What took you so long to come?” the black-haired girl with eye smile examined her manicured nails.
“Maybe she needs to remedy her ugliness.” The short, blonde hair girl guffawed at her.
“YAH!” Sooyoung yelled.”You guys are so mean.” She pouted.”So, where’s Taengu and Seobaby?”
“They’re helping Yuri.” Hyoyeon shrugged.
“Why are you here? You’re supposed to help them, too, right?” Sooyoung asked.
“They can do it on their own.” She smirked as she put her hands at the back of her head.
“So, Soo, who’s this pretty lady?”, the red haired girl, named Sunny asked.
“Oh yeah, I forgot to ask.” Sooyoung remembered and put an arm around her best friend. “Guys, I would like you to meet my childhood friend from Seoul, Im Yoona. She will be Kwon Yuri’s forever.”
Yoona elbowed Sooyoung upon hearing her statement. The girls smirked.
“Ooohh, did you fall for Kwon Yuri’s charm already, Yoona? I’m Hwang Tiffany. My family owns an exporting business to the US.” Tiffany eye smiled.
“A-aniyo. Don’t believe in everything she says. I h-haven’t seen the girl so…”Yoona stammered.
“We beg to differ, Yoona-ssi. We’re sure you’ll fall for her. Everybody does, well, except us since we knew her the most. I’m Lee Sunny. We own a pastry shop” Sunny shook her hand.
“Yup, what they said. Kim Hyoyeon. Yuri is my cousin.” Hyoyeon smiled.
“Uh…o-okay. Well, why do you want me to meet her anyways? W-we’re both girls and―” Yoona asked. Her curiosity increased when aside from Sooyoung, her friends were also keen for her to meet this Yuri. They are at the time were relationship with girls are taboo.
“To be honest Yoong, we knew you from Sooyoung’s stories. You seemed to be a very cool girl. We just know that you and Yuri will, you know, click?” Hyoyeon winked at her.
Yoona was about to say something when someone cleared their throat on the microphone. The girls turned their heads to the voice and saw a man on the stage.
“Ladies and gentlemen, May I have your attention please?” a balding man in his forties said. “Thank you all for coming to this very special day. As we all know, this is a day that the only daughter of our respected governor will be presented to the world. But before that, I would like to have our governor together with his wife say a few words.” The man stepped out of the stage and made way for a beautiful couple who’s walking towards the stage.
Yoona couldn’t help but awed at the beautiful couple walking. They looked like from a royal family who’s oozing elegance and poise.
“Damn, Hyo, what does this family eat? Governor Kwon doesn’t seem to age as well as Mrs.Kwon.” Sooyoung commented.
“I don’t even know,too, Soo. I tried to raid their food cabinets but I can’t find anything.” Hyo shrugged.
“Everytime I see Mrs. Kwon, I couldn’t help but marveled by her beauty. I wish that I am as beautiful as her when I get older. She’s like a model or a movie star.” Tiffany sighed and Yoona couldn’t help but agree.
The couple was already on the stage and the crowd went silent as the Governor took over the mic.
“Thank you all for coming to my daughter’s coming-of-age celebration. I am happy that you made time to attend this special day. This will be the day that may daughter will see the world as a grown-up. I am hoping that she will be as beautiful as her mother.” Governor Kwon said as he looked at the woman beside him with so much adoration in his eyes. The said woman smiled shyly.
“Aaww, I wish my future husband will look at me like that, too!” Sunny squealed.
“So, without further ado, I would like to introduce to you, my daughter, Kwon Yuri.” Governor Kwon introduced as he faced their mansion’s elegant staircase.
The crowd, along Yoona, craned their necks as the music starts and the double-doors of the mansion opened. The doe-eyed girl couldn’t help but gasped as she saw a very beautiful girl standing at the top of the staircase. The crowd started to murmur their amazement on how beautiful Kwon Yuri is.
“Oh my God! Look at how beautiful she is!” Tiffany gasped. “She looks like a princess.”
Yoona beg to differ. For her, she’s not seeing a princess. She’s seeing a goddess from heaven. Her white ball gown accentuated her caramel skin beautifully as well as her lovely updo.
‘So she is the one who are they talking about. Beautiful is an understatement to her.’ Yoona thought.
Just then, Sooyoung elbowed her, “See what I’m talking about?” Sooyoung grinned as she saw her best friend still stunned on seeing Kwon Yuri. Yoona just involuntary nodded.
They watched as Yuri descends from the stairs and made her way to her parents. She kissed both of their cheeks before smiling to the crowd. Yoona is sure that it’s not just her who had their hearts skipped a beat.
“They are such beautiful family. I can’t look away.” Sunny sigh in amazement.
“Good evening to all of you.” A sweet husky voice said.
Yoona gasped upon hearing that voice from a beautiful girl.
‘Beautiful face and beautiful voice. What’s more, Yuri?’ Yoona said to herself.
“Thank you all for coming to my party. I hope you’ll enjoy the night.” Yuri smiled at the crowd couldn’t help but admire her radiating smile. Then, Yuri’s father led her to the dance floor and starts their father-daughter dance.
Yoona watched how the father-daughter danced gracefully and with ease. She couldn’t help but imagine herself dancing with a girl like Yuri. She even wondered if a girl like her would be noticed with someone like Yuri. It’s as if she’s unreachable.
“Yo, Yoona!” Sooyoung nudged her back to reality.
“W-wae?” Yoona stammered.
“Stop staring, you’ll get to know her later.” Sooyoung winked which made Yoona elbowed her. “Ouch. We’ll get food. C’mon.”
The night went by and they are all having fun. Yoona got to know Sooyoung’s  friends and they are as crazy as her best friend and she couldn’t help but enjoy their company. But as she was enjoying being with her new found friends, she couldn’t help but look for Yuri as she mingled with the crowd. She wished that Yuri will make her way towards them.
“Hi guys!” another blonde baby-faced girl  greeted them.
‘TAENGGOOO!” they all greeted.
“So, you guys, enjoying the party?” Taeyeon smiled as she sat beside Sunny.
“Yeah, the party’s really cool. You helped?” Sunny asked.
“Not much. It’s all Yul and her mom.” Taeyeon replied. She looked up and saw Yoona. “Oh, who’s the new girl?”
“She’s Sooyoung’s best friend from the city, Im Yoona.” Tiffany introduced.
“Oh jinjja? Nice to meet you, Yoona. I’m Kim Taeyeon. I’m Yuri’s cousin and Hyo’s twin sister.” Taeyeon smiled as she shook her hand.
Yoona was surprised that Taeyeon is Hyoyeon’s twin sister. They don’t look a-like except for the blonde hair and their eyes but their personalities were very different. Taeyeon is calm and reserved while Hyoyeon is outgoing and fun.
“Nice to meet you, Taeyeon-ssi.” Yoona smiled back.
“No need to be formal, Yoona. Call me Taeyeon-unnie.”
“Unnie?”
“Yeah, Taeyeon and I are the oldest in this group but it’s more of her because she’s older than me by 2 minutes.” Hyoyeon grinned which Yoona nodded.
As they were all talking and listening to the twins’ funny stories, there was another girl who approached them.
“Unnie!”
They all turned to the source of the voice and they all smiled when a girl approached them.
“Seohyunnie!” they chorused.The said girl sat beside Tiffany and waved at them.
“So, how are you guys? Enjoying the party?” Seohyun asked which they all nodded.
“So, how’s Yuri?” Sooyoung  asked.
“She’s been around saying ‘hi’ to the guests.” Seohyun shrugged as her smile didn’t even reach her lips as if she’s worried about something.
“Wae, Seohyun-ah? Is there something wrong?” Tiffany asked as she put her arms around her shoulder.
“It’s just Yuri-unnie mentioned that now that she has her coming-of-age, she’s sure that her dad has something in store for her.” Seohyun said.
“What is it?” Sooyoung asked as she looked at Yoona.
“Yuri unnie heard her dad talking to someone the other day. He will set up Yuri unnie and some guy for marriage.”
“THAT EARLY?! BUT SHE JUST HAD HER COMING-OF-AGE?!” Sunny exclaimed. Good thing that the music was loud enough for the other guests to hear her.
Yoona couldn’t help but feel bad and feel disappointed with what she’s hearing. She couldn’t understand the pain that she’s feeling right now. So, she decided to get up and excused herself.
“Uh, Yoong, where are you going?” Sooyoung asked.
“I’m going to the restroom, Soo.” She lied.
“I haven’t introduced you to Seohyunnie, yet.”
“Oh, mianhe. I’m Im Yoona from Seoul. Nice to meet you, Seohyun-ssi.” Yoona offered her hand.
“Hello, Yoona-ssi. I heard a lot of things from you, from Sooyoung-unnie. Thank you for coming to Yuri unnie’s party. I’m looking forward for you to meet her.” Seohyun smiled at Yoona which made the doe-eyed girl smiled back. ‘At least two people in her family approves.’ Yoona thought.
“Uh, I’ll be going to the restroom, excuse me.” Yoona smiled and made her way away from them. Instead of heading to the restroom, she headed to the vast garden of Kwons.
She needed air. She needed air to breathe.
She went to the country side to have a vacation and to enjoy her freedom but instead, her first day was crazy. She never intended to fall in love with a girl at first sight. Seeing her as she made her way to her guests made her heart jump with anticipation, wishing that she’ll make her way towards them. She never intended to have this feeling inside her. Hearing that soon enough, Yuri will be wed to someone. To a better man.
‘How can I compare with a guy? Maybe the one that Mr. Kwon will choose is the best among all guys out there.’ Yoona sighed.
Yoona looked up at the stars and sighed again at the beautiful sight. A night in the country side is definitely wonderful than a night in the city. She wondered how her dad is doing right now. Was he missing her, too? If only he was here, he will be supportive of her.
It’s not a secret in their camp that Yoona prefers women than men. She basically grew up with men in the camp except that their helper, nana Shinyoung taught her things that she needs to know about being a girl. Her father accepts that without a second thought. The last thing he wants is for someone to hurt his only daughter.
She swayed her head along with the jazzy music from the band as she enjoyed this little time with herself. Just then, she heard someone cleared their throat. She immediately looked up and gasped upon seeing the girl that she’s thinking the whole time she been here.
“Oh. Mianhe. I thought no one’s here. Mianhe.” Yuri’s soft voice filled Yoona’s ear. Yuri was about to walk away when Yoona stopped her.
“W-wait.Uuhh…i-it’s o-okay. I uuhh..b-better go.” Yoona cringed at herself for stammering.
“No. uuhh. Wait. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t…uuhh..i better go back.” Yuri said but made no move to walk away. Yoona took this as a hint to be braver.
“Uh, why don’t  we stay here? It seems like we both need to walk away from the party for a while that’s why we’re here. I don’t mind a company.” The doe eyed girl tried to smile her nervous away.
Yuri smiled shyly and made her way beside Yoona on the bench. They share a shy smile and looked away. Yoona never felt her heart beat fast enough. She held her hand by her heart as if it’ll calm down the rapid beating.
“So,uuhhm, i…I just…are you new here?” Yuri stammered as she tried to form a conversation to the doe-eyed girl.
Yoona smiled. She never thought that a beautiful girl like Yuri will be as nervous as her.
“Ah, yeah. I’m friends with Sooyoung. We’ve been friends for a long time.I’m Im Yoon from Seoul, by the way” Yoona explained as she offered her hand which Yuri gladly accepted.
The two of them felt sparks as their hands met. They immediately pulled away and looked down shyly. Yuri cleared .
“I’m Kwon Yuri. So, how come I never seen you before? “ Yuri asked. She knows Sooyoung and if Yoona is friends with her, she should’ve met her.
“Uuuhh, well, this is my first time visiting your place. It’s always their family who visits us.” Yoona explained.
“Oh, that’s nice of you to visit her instead. I’m hoping that you’re liking you’re enjoying your stay here.” Yuri smiled.
“Yeah, everybody’s amazing. I met Sooyoung’s friends and your cousins and they’re all nice.” Yoona grinned.
“Really, how I wish I was there when you met them.” Yuri smiled sadly.
“Well, why don’t you come with us?” Yoona asked eagerly. She wanted to get to know the girl as long as she stays in town.
Yoona saw the hesitation on Yuri’s face and she couldn’t help but frown. “Well, I want to…b-but I can’t.”
“Why?” Yoona whispered.
“Well, I have to study and do things around here.” Yuri said shyly.
Yoona was taken aback with Yuri’s answer. She didn’t know that Yuri is so sheltered by her parents.
“Well, aren’t you allowed to hang out with your friends and cousins?”
“They would have to visit me. I can’t go out because my family is well-known here. One stupid move, it will affect my family.” Yuri smiled sadly. “I wish I could come with them wherever they go.”
Yoona felt bad for Yuri. Yuri’s words were etched in her mind. ‘One stupid move, it will affect my family.” How hard it must be to be a Kwon? Yuri doesn’t have any freedom despite that she already held her coming-of-age party.
“Well, why don’t you come with us? You already had your coming-of-age party, right? You have your freedom.” Yoona said.
Yuri was surprised. Yoona doesn’t understand what ‘coming-of-age’ means to her family. It means that she’s old enough to marry the person her parents choose for her. It’s their family tradition that has been going on for a long time noe.
“You don’t know how my family defines freedom, Yoona. Since I’m a Kwon, I have an image to uphold.” Yuri sighed. Yoona saw how Yuri longed to do things that girls her age does.
“Well, maybe it’s time for you to be brave enough and be free.” Yoona said confidently.
“Easy for you to say because you’re not like me.” Yuri soffed.
“Yeah, but just like you, I have a stern father. I’ve been living all my life inside the camp. All I see are soldiers and guns and not a place like this in sight.” Yoona explained. “One day, I ask my dad if I can travel alone. I explained to him that I want to explore the world outside those walls. He disagreed but when I made him choose if I’m going to ran away or let me, he let me.”
Yuri went speechless on what Yoona said. If only her father were as understanding as Yoona, she wouldn’t have a problem right now.
“So, starting tomorrow, you’ll come with me.” Yoona smirked which made Yuri’s heart skipped a beat.
“W-what?” Yuri murmured.
“You’ll come with me. Starting tomorrow. We’ll explore your place.” Yoona said excitedly. Thinking that she’ll be with Yuri starting tomorrow.
“B-but—“ Yuri tried to argue.
“No buts, Kwon Yuri. I’ll pick you up tomorrow and that’s final. Let’s enjoy our freedom.” Yoona winked and walked back to her friends leaving Yuri with a confused heart.
