Chapter 2

At The End of This Road, You Must Love Me

Joon bit his lip in hesitation as he stepped off the bus and found himself in front of the University. He looked around and saw all the people and he suddenly felt very foolish. He looked at his watched and noticed it was noon. Ever since Kikwang had given him the location of the school, Joon had done nothing but pace around his apartment for 3 days. He wanted to see her but at the same time she didn’t know that he was now here and that could creep her out if he suddenly showed up in front of her. Joon took another look around before he decided to just make his way to the main University center. He shyly avoided the sudden stares from all the girls as he walked by them. They huddled and stared and he could feel the blood rush to his face. He walked faster but suddenly stopped when he realized he had no idea where he was going. He turned and the girls that had been following him gasped at how handsome he was.

“Can anyone tell me where the University center is?”

The girls all nodded and quickly surrounded him and started to pull him. He screamed a little as they tugged and pulled but he couldn’t break away. They started to talk all at once and before long, they were fighting over him. He stopped walking and tried to calm them.

“Please don’t fight.”

They stopped and stared at him. One of them spoke.

“Oppa, you’re so good looking! Are you single?”

His eyes widened at the sudden question and he couldn’t help but slightly frown.

“Physically single, emotionally taken” he replied and the girls groaned.

He could tell his popularity was now completely over which meant he needed to quickly get their help while he still could. He dug out his phone from his pocket and turned it to them.

“Have you seen this girl around on campus?” he asked, knowing that the chances were slim.

They stared at the picture he used as a background for a while until one of them suddenly snapped her fingers.

“She’s in my math class!”

“REALLY!? WHEN IS YOUR MATH CLASS!?!”

The girl sort of took a step back at his sudden outburst and he quickly apologized.

“It starts in half an hour. Room 234 in building C.”

Joon quickly thanked her and ran off before they could stop him. He looked around excitedly and read the names of the building. When he finally found the building, he checked his watch and slightly cursed. Only five minutes had passed. He was about to enter the building when a voice called him out.

“Joon-hyung!”

Joon looked to his left and saw Kikwang walking up to him.

“Oh, Kikwang-ah.”

“What are you doing here?” Kikwang asked.

Joon rubbed his neck out of a nervous habit.

“I’m looking for someone.”

Kikwang raised an eyebrow and then suddenly understood.

“Oh! You mean that girl you mentioned before?”

Joon nodded and smiled.

“I managed to find someone who knew her.”

“I don’t get it though, if you know her, why didn’t you just call her?” Kikwang asked as he sat down on a bench and looked up at him.

“I want to surprise her. She’s been a friend of mine for a while now. I haven’t seen her in months and I haven’t spoken to her in a week. I just want to surprise her, that's all.”

Kikwang smirked.

“Yah, are you in love with her?”

Joon tried not to blush but Kikwang could tell.

“Anyway, what are you doing here?” asked Joon.

“Oh, I came to see my girlfriend and have lunch with my friend but he left me hanging and went to eat with his girlfriend instead.”

Joon laughed and shook his head.

“Speaking of girlfriends, how is your girlfriend? Is she okay?”

Kikwang sighed and nodded.

“Yeah she is fine. Just another ex-boyfriend of hers that couldn’t take the hint.”

Joon raised an eyebrow.

“I’m guessing she attracts a lot of guys.”

“You have no idea” replied Kikwang as he sighed once more.

Joon patted Kikwang’s shoulder in sympathy.

“I guess I can relate.”

Joon checked his watch.

“I got to go but I’ll see you at work later this week” voiced Joon.

Kikwang stood and nodded in understanding. Joon said a quick bye and ran into the building and down the hallway. He scanned the classrooms until he finally found the room he was looking for. He stopped in front of the closed door and saw that class was already in progress and he softly cursed. He tried to scope her out but failed to see anyone other than the first row of students. He backed away from the door and leaned up against the wall. He placed his hand over his chest.

“Stop beating so hard” he whispered to himself as he thought about her.

He couldn’t help but smile to himself when he recalled the first time they met.

It had been 3 years ago when she had just graduated high school. He had been just gotten off of work and was walking down the street in the middle of the night. He could never remember what time it was but he only remembered that the starts could be seen and they were shining bright. He was thinking to himself when he suddenly heard a scream.

He stopped walking and looked around. He heard the scream again and quickly ran towards the sound. He ended up in an alley and it was there that he saw a group of guys surrounding a girl. She didn’t seem to be afraid but rather, she looked extremely angry. The group of guys laughed and one of them suddenly pushed her down and took out a switchblade.

“YAH!” he suddenly screamed as he walked up to them.

They all turned to look at him.

“Beat it! This doesn’t concern you!” one of them yelled.

Joon could now see that it was a group of 6 guys and they all seemed to be thugs, which caused Joon to smirk.

“How about you leave the girl alone” he said.

The guys all laughed amongst themselves. The one with the switchblade stepped up to Joon and pointed the blade at him.

“Why don’t YOU leave US alone so we can finish OUR business. Now…. off.”

Joon laughed and threw his gym bag down before he stepped up to the guy.

“Look, head. I’m giving you a chance to scram. Take it” warned Joon as he cracked his neck.

The guy didn’t respond and instead swiped the blade in an upward motion. Joon reacted quickly and punched the guy in the face. The blade flew off towards the side and the guy landed on the ground, knocked out. Joon smirked. He had been a boxer throughout high school and was a national champion. He looked at the other guys, who glared but didn’t advance towards him. They threw down a bag and quickly ran off. Joon sighed and made his way over to the girl, who was now picking up the bag.

“Are you okay? Did they hurt you?” he asked.

He stared at her back, waiting for a response.

“Thank you” she said and turned to face him.

He froze as he saw her. She was bleeding from and had big bruise on her face. He got closer and she backed away.

“Hold still, I just helped you so I’m not going to hurt you.”

She looked at him and then looked away. He got closer and examined her face. He sighed and cursed out loud, taking her by surprise.

“I shouldn’t have let them go.”

He sighed in frustration and then looked at her again.

“Why are you out at this time of night and in an alley for crying out loud!?”

She flinched at his sudden mood change.

“I-I just got done with work and I was suddenly grabbed” she replied, her hands tightening around her bag.

Joon looked at her closely.

“You’re running away.”

She looked at him in surprise before she slowly nodded. Joon walked over to his bag and picked it up before he slung the unconscious guy over his shoulder. He turned to her.

“Follow me.”

He walked out of the alley and looked back and was surprised that she was actually following him. He couldn’t help but smile. He felt so proud of himself. They walked in silence and he stopped in front of a police station. They walked in and he dumped the guy on the floor and called an officer over. He pushed her forward.

“She needs to file charges.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joon looked over to his right when he heard the door open. He watched as she walked out of the police station and looked at him.
“All done?” he asked.
“Yes.”
He put out the cigarette he was smoking and put his hands in his pockets.
“Where will you go?” he asked.
She looked around, avoiding his eyes.
“To an aunt’s house” she replied.
Joon smirked at her and she gulped.
“Look, don't lie to me…I won’t pry into your life if you don’t want me to, but I can’t just let you wander around at this time of night and by yourself. How old are you anyway?”
“19” she replied.
Joon almost laughed but decided to just descend the small steps and step onto the sidewalk.
“I’ll let you stay at my place. Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you. I know we’re strangers but I am not going to let a girl stay out in the streets. The only options you have are to come with me, return home or walk the streets.”
She glared at him but didn’t bother to say anything. They stood looking at each other and couldn’t help but notice that she was rather pretty. He quickly thought of something else to stop himself from thinking of her like that. He cleared his throat.
“So what are you going to decide?”
He heard her shift her bag and then he she appeared in front of him.
“Lead the way” she said and gave him a dazzling smile, her eyes filled with tears.
His heart thumped loudly against his chest and butterflies suddenly flutter in his stomach.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Joon smiled once again and sighed in content. He looked at his watch and noticed an hour had gone by. He always got carried away when he thought of her. He loved her. He knew he loved her. She was stubborn and though she had a cute exterior, her interior was beautiful and filled with spirit. The one thing he didn’t know was whether or not she felt the same for him. The door next to him suddenly opened and he froze. Students started to pile out of the room. He looked at each of them but he frowned when none of them turned out to be her. He waited and waited and just when he was about to give up hope, he saw her emerge from the room. She hadn’t changed since the last time he saw her almost 6 months ago. He felt his mouth dry up as she looked up and finally saw him, stopping in her tracks.

“J-Joonie!”

She smiled widely and threw herself into his arms. He took a deep breathe, praying that she could not feel his racing heart.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He watched her as she ran around his kitchen, happily cooking this and that. She had insisted she visit him and cook him a meal. She was extremely happy that he was now living here because she had missed him. He couldn’t help but watch her. He watched her always from afar or up close, but never within his embrace. Anytime he was with her, he wanted nothing more than to pull her close to him. He wanted to run his fingers through her soft hair and take in her sweet aroma. He wanted to tell her he loved her and he wanted her to smile at him and tell him sweet words of love in return. Those few months that he didn’t have her in front of him were pure torture. He never wanted to live a day without her and so he had decided to follow her to this place. He wanted her to take notice of him and for her to give him warmth.
She looked at him and smiled.
“Joonie, the food is almost ready.”
He simply nodded and rested his chin in his palm. She turned back to the stove and he continued to watch her, his smile hurting his cheeks.
A sudden knock on his door interrupted his activity. She looked at him and he motioned for her to go about her business. He stood from the stool and made his way to the front door. He opened the door, ready to greet someone but as he looked out and saw who it was, he froze.
“Hyuna?” he whispered, his palms suddenly becoming sweaty.
She looked at him and he looked at her. She was carrying bags with her. She smiled at him, her happiness easily visible. She was about to hug him but stopped when she heard a voice.
“Joonie, the food is done.”
Joon froze and Hyuna immediately frowned. She took in a shaky breath and looked at him, her eyes instantly glistening with unshed tears.
“Hyosung” she said in a whisper.
She didn’t need to ask or confirm because she knew. Joon looked at her with a sad expression that seemed to say “Sorry”.
“You didn’t waste any time in finding her” she said, her eyes lowering.
She then suddenly sighed and pushed past him anyway. She dropped her bags on his couch and turned to face him. She wiped her eyes and smiled. She hugged him.
“Surprise…I decided to come here to be with you and Hyosung, like how we used to be. I hope you don’t mind if I stay here until I find my own place.”
She pushed away from him.
“Hyosung-unnie!!”
Hyosung quickly ran out and gasped when she saw Hyuna.
“Hyuna-yah!”
Joon watched as they embraced each other and started to immediately reconnect. He slowly closed his door and he could feel his heart sink. He looked up and saw Hyuna staring at him. He turned away from her gaze.
DUN DUN DUN!!!!!! All the characters are now introduced in some sort of way, woo!! Time to get things heated up! As I read some comments, I noticed that many of my readers were concerned about Min and all that I could think was “WHY YOU NO GIVE JOONIE LOVE!?!” XD I know some readers are concerned now that I did basically state that this would be a KISUNG fanfic. No worries, I have no intention of making Min evil or just dumping her to the side. I *heart* Min. Anyway, I made this chapter mostly about Joon because I wanted to show him some love and also because I wanted to show a contrast to Kikwang. Kikwang’s thoughts were possessive while Joon’s thoughts were more caring and wishful. This is important because as the stories progresses, you will see how both of them change! DUN DUN DUN!! And O-M-G! What is going on with Hyuna and Joon!?!? Lol, stay tuned to see what happens next! I have finals this week but I will try to update either tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest!!
****Chapter song inspiration time!! I know that this is a cover, but even though I like both versions, I like this one more XD
