Thanks For Landing First

Catch Me When I Fall

“Hi Love,” Taeyeon landed a chaste kiss on Tiffany’s lips before taking her seat next to Tiffany.

“Bold enough, are you?” Tiffany chuckled as she handed over the menu to Taeyeon.

“We are in US anyway, no once cares if I kiss you like that.” Taeyeon shrugged casually as her eyes browse the menu, looking for something interesting for her dinner.

Tiffany shook her head in amusement. “I am glad we landed on decision to pursue your career here.” Her eyes never left the love of her life who seemed to be more and more attractive. Taeyeon cut her hair neck length, and dyed her hair dark brown. She looked more mature.

“Of course, a very good decision. The salary is good.” Taeyeon shrugged as she flipped the menu page, trying to find something interesting for her to eat.

Tiffany shoved Taeyeon’s shoulder upon hearing the answer, making Taeyeon laughed at the response.

“I am kidding, Love.” Her eyes shone in playfulness. “I am glad we no longer need to play hide and seek with everyone here.” She leaned in to Tiffany and landed a peck on the lips. “And I get to kiss you anytime like this.” Another peck landed on Tiffany’s lips. “And I get to tell everyone that this beautiful woman is my fiancee.” She smiled wide at Tiffany.

“Dork!” Tiffany chuckled and shoved Taeyeon’s shoulder again but not once she rejected the kiss from Taeyeon. She loved that. She loved it every time Taeyeon kissed her in public like what the petite woman just did now. It felt like Taeyeon was proudly telling everyone that she’s hers.

Taeyeon chuckled and continued browsing the menu. “But I miss Indonesian food.” She pouted while her eyes kept browsing the menu. “American food is not my thing, I guess.”

“Do you miss Indonesia?” Tiffany couldn’t help to notice the change of mood.

Taeyeon answered with a shrug. “I missed soto ayam for sure.”

“Taetae…” Tiffany took Taeyeon’s hand and squeezed it gently.

“Taeyeon turned her head to Tiffany and smiled sincerely. “I missed my family. But they will fly here in the next six months. So I am fine, Fany.” She leaned in to landed a kiss on Tiffany’s cheek. “What about you? Do you miss Indonesia?”

Tiffany smiled and shook her head. “Well, I spent my childhood here. I missed Dad of course, but he will fly here as well. So I am totally fine.” But then Tiffany bit her lips nervously. “I have some worries though, are you sure everything is going to be okay?”

Taeyeon nodded in certainty. “Yes, everything is going to be okay. We’ve secured our US citizenship. We’ve ensured everything is in place for the past three years. All the documents have been submitted. So, everything’s going to be okay.”

Tiffany chuckled at how confident Taeyeon answered her question. It was true, in the past three years, they had tried to get everything in place for their plan in this country. All back and forth efforts to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services office, all the documents they needed to submit, the interviews, and everything.

“It’s not just the documents and citizenship that we need to secure, Taetae.” Tiffany shook her head in amusement. “I was asking about whether we will get our family’s blessings.”

Taeyeon let out a silent oh as she nodded now understanding Tiffany’s statement earlier. “I’ve been dropping tons of clues already. They should already know by now.”

Tiffany sighed at the answer. Here is something she was afraid of, Taeyeon’s family still didn’t know why they invited the family to go to US. “Exactly. Clues. They still have no idea that we plan to get married, right?”

“Jiwoong Oppa knows.” Taeyeon answered still in certainty.

Tiffany pinched the bridge of her now as she heard Taeyeon’s answer. “You parents, Taetae… Not just Jiwoong Oppa…” Tiffany had been worried about this for couple of months already. Ever since she and Taeyeon decided to get married, one of the things she worried the most is how Taeyeon would tell her parents about this.

Taeyeon chuckled as she saw how Tiffany reacted. “You asked about my parents, but what about your Dad? Does he know already?”

“Well kind of…” Tiffany shrugged her shoulder.

Taeyeon raised her hand, stopping Tiffany. “Hold on, let me order first.” She waved her hand, trying to get the waiter attention. A male waiter came and Taeyeon spilled her order to him. After the waiter gone she put her attention back to Tiffany.

“So, how about your Dad?” Taeyeon asked as she propped her chin on top her opened palm.

“He… well, he already knew I date you. You know I spent our last year in Indonesia to tell him that I date you.”

“I knew that part. But how could you say that he kind of knowing that we will get married?” Taeyeon’s eyes twinkle in excitement, wanting to know how Tiffany broke the news to her father.

“When I invited him here I dropped a clue to him.”

“And what’s the clue?”

“I told him that I need him to walk me down the aisle.” Tiffany grinned sheepishly as she told Taeyeon how she told her Dad.

Taeyeon laughed and shook her head in amusement. “That should be a very obvious clue!”

“Hey, don’t laugh! You’re in no place to laugh since you haven’t told your parents. What if they’re shocked??”

“I haven’t told you this, but they already knew I date you.” Taeyeon smiled playfully and wiggle her eyebrows.

Tiffany gasped at the newly found information she got. “What? Since when?”

Taeyeon straightened her seat and held both Tiffany’s hand. “After I proposed to you with promise ring, do you remember I went back home for one full month?”

“You told them during that time and you just tell me now?” Tiffany’s eyes widened in disbelief. She had been worried about this for almost four years.

Taeyeon nodded and smiled sweetly. “Sorry I only manage to tell you now. It was not smooth, you know. They gave me silent treatment for the whole month when I was there. They acted like I wasn’t there. It hurt me so much, knowing my parents wouldn’t even want to look at me as if I never existed.”

Tiffany frowned upon hearing Taeyeon’s explanation. “So, that’s why I only see you kept contacting Jiwoong instead of your parents since we got here…”

Taeyeon nodded and squeezed Tiffany’s hands in hers. “I didn’t tell you because every time I remember my parents face and how my parents treated me, it hurts a lot. I couldn’t tell you because the words won’t come out of my mouth. I am sorry I didn’t tell you earlier, Fany.”

Tiffany almost cried as she listened to Taeyeon. She had no idea that Taeyeon was hurt. She could not imagine if she was in Taeyeon’s shoes. She might be broken and a mess already.

“But that had encouraged me to really take a further step for us, though.” Taeyeon gave a reassuring smile to Tiffany. “That encouraged me to finish all the long process for us to get married here. Because all those past time, my biggest worry was to tell my parents about my preference, to tell my parents about us.”

Tiffany couldn’t say anything, she didn’t know Taeyeon had done this much sacrifice for the sake of their relationship. She caressed Taeyeon’s knuckles with her thumbs, trying to ease the pain that Taeyeon felt.

“Now, the good news.” Taeyeon’s eyes turned bright. “Last year, I got a call from my Dad, during midnight. During that call, he asked whether it was just a phase, or whether I’ve been having this for a long time.” Taeyeon chuckled, as her mind repeated how her dad asked about the matter. “But before I answered he already got his question answered by himself by saying that there’s no way that it’s a phase because I was 31 already.”

Tiffany chuckled along, imagining Taeyeon’s father saying that to Taeyeon.

“After that he went silent for a very long time that I almost cried because I was so tense. I was about to end the call when he suddenly said that I shouldn’t go back to Indonesia. It hurt so bad. I felt like I was thrown away by my own parents. But then he continued, that he doesn’t want me to have a hard life in Indonesia. He told me that it’d be tough for me if I want to continue my relationship with you and stay in Indonesia.” Taeyeon smiled wide. “He still cares.”

Tiffany smiled along and a lone tear trickled down her face, it must be really hard for Taeyeon but never once she saw Taeyeon tried to give up on her.

“And he mentioned, he and my mom will support me even though it’s not easy for them to accept it. But he wish, as time goes on they will eventually accept it.”

“So, do they accept it now?” Tiffany took one hand off from Taeyeon’s  and cupped Taeyeon’s cheek gently.

Taeyeon nodded and grinned. The past year, I’ve started to talk with my parents again. It was awkward at first. Imagine talking to someone you’ve never talked to at all for more than two years.” She chuckled, remembering the first few months she talked to her parents again. “And last month my mom asked the question she had stopped asking me after finding out my preference — when will you get married, Taetae?”

Tiffany let out a soft laugh, it was surprisingly heartwarming, knowing Taeyeon’s mom asking that question.

“So, I asked them whether they will come if I get married. And they said they will come.” A wide smile now plastered on Taeyeon’s face. “So, I told them I will marry you and invited them here.”

“That’s… so…” Tiffany ran out of words to describe her feelings right now. “I…”

“Shh, you don’t need to talk.” Taeyeon laughed as she watched Tiffany’s reaction. “I am just happy. I am happy that our parents will come to our wedding. I am happy I reconcile with my parents. And above all, I am happy we’re going this far.” She took Tiffany’s hand which was on her cheek, and looked at the promise ring which never left Tiffany’s finger. She kissed Tiffany’s hand before leaned forward to kiss the lips. “Thanks for catching me when I fall, Fany.”

Tiffany’s heart melted. She didn’t know how many times Taeyeon’s melted her heart, she couldn’t remember how many times Taeyeon made her fall deeper and deeper. And every time she thought Taeyeon had done all the imaginable, Taeyeon always managed to show the unimaginable, and let her fell again. She smiled at the love of her life and cupped both Taeyeon’s cheek, not letting the spaces separating them. She kissed Taeyeon deeply, gently, trying to pour all her feelings into the kiss.

“Thanks for landing first, Taetae.”

Chapter 2: The one thing that I really enjoy is that the chapters are easy to read, time passes so fast when I read the chapter.

Taeyeon is really hard working which was proved by her successful presentation. She ended up saving a lot of time for other workers and impressed the right people. She deserves a promotion.

It was a nice touch to make Taeyeon go hard on Tiffany when giving her questions that seemed simple but hard at the same time. It shows that Taeyeon isn’t madly in love with someone she had just met a little while ago. Their relationship progress might not go fast but I would not say that it is very slow. They are getting to know each other at first, letting their feelings grow with time.

Liked that Tiffany was playful with Taeyeon, despite the fact that they had met earlier that day. Maybe it is a little unrealistic but this is a story of imagination, it doesn’t have to be realistic. ^^

It is good that Taeyeon has Chris as kind of her friend. Their relationship status isn’t defined that much but they seem like good friends by how Chris teased Taeyeon.

Sneaky Taeyeon saving Tiffany’s number beforehand.

It was a lucky coincidence that Tiffany got interviewed by Taeyeon. She got to find out more about Tiffany while keeping it professional.

I assume that Tiffany will work in Human resources part? Excuse me if I am wrong.

Taeyeon face palming herself was a good detail. It added more to her character rather than making her the serious, workaholic prototype.

Overall excellent chapter! Good job!

Chapter 1: This is very good written, liked how you used words that weren’t used that often, it enhanced the story.
Characters description was very well done, readers could imagine them the way they are in your mind. Especially liked the sentence where you compared Tiffany’s eyes to crescent moons. Not sure if you intended it to be like a metaphor, symbol or just a similarity but it was very well done.

It was good idea to include little descriptions, for example, how workaholic Taeyeon is and how sweet Tiff is. She has good sense of humour and positive attitude, which contradicts Taeyeon’s usual seriousness.

Showing how Taeyeon usually interacts with others was perfect in contrast with how carefree she was with Tiffany.

Liked how you included their nationalities while keeping them Korean but living in Indonesia( your homecountry possibly?)

About the plot- it is simple but interesting and easy to read. Readers got to see Taeyeon’s point of view, find out her inner thoughts and opinion’s.

From the second Tiffany got introduced, it was known that she was special. She is bringing a change to Taeyeon and they had just met.

The meeting at coffee shop was cute, just like a little date.

You did great with leaving readers wanting more as I don’t ship Taeny but I want to read more of your story!

It is really good, liked the chapter.

Hope my review of chapter 1 was helpful.

And please tell me if you want to keep receiving the review in the comments or personally?
