the temperature in the kitchen went up as natalie dropped the breaded chicken onto hot canola oil. crackling sounds can be heard when the chicken made contact with the oil. she grabbed a magazine to read while waiting for the chicken to cook.

she sat on top of the kitchen while she looked at all the images in the magazine. flipping through a few pages, she noted the different styles that the models wore in their photoshoots. she wondered if maybe she should incorporate some of the styles in her own clothing.

"nah, that's a bad idea," she concluded to herself, scrunching her nose in discontent. "i prefer my current style."

light footsteps can be heard approaching the kitchen. natalie looked up from her magazine to the sight of her tired and sleepy roomate. 

with a yawn, her roomate asked, "what are you doing up this late?" she rubbed her eyes, and finally noticed the smell of chicken cooking in the fryer. "and what are you cooking?"

"chicken," natalie replied nonchalantly. her roommate looked at her in disbelief.

"nat, it's 2 am," her roomate said. "and you're cooking chicken!?"

"i was hungry," natalie shrugged. keeping her eyes on the magazine, she added, "why? do you want one? i cooked extra if you do."

"i mean yeah, but we're supposed to be on a diet!" 

ignoring her roommate, natalie walked over to the fryer to take a look at how the chicken was cooking. finding that they were well cooked already, she plucked them out of the fryer with some tongs to a plate she lined with some kitchen rolls to drain the oil. 

she grabbed two forks fromone of the overhead cupboards, and gave her roommate one of them. she removed the kitchen roll from the plate and discarded it to the trash then started digging in.

her roommate joined her not a moment too soon in eating the chicken. instantly exploded with lovely flavors from the dish.

"wow, what did you put in this chicken?" she asked. "it's phenomenal!"

Natalie smiled. if there was one thing she liked being complimented at, it was her cooking along with her singing and dancing.

"nothing," natalie said. her roommate shot her a look of disbelief. Natalie giggled before adding, "i just marinated it well."

taking another bite of the chicken, her roommate said, "you cook really well," she said. a moment of silent washed over the two of them. "but seriously, we are supposed to be under a diet."

"i mean, I was hungry and i couldn't sleep."

"hahahaha! stop making such excuses!"
