A/N: I've had this story playing in my head for some time now... And then news hit that Kibum really and officially left SM, and I was just like "Now what?" with this story. But I guess here's hopeful thinking that SJ will be complete again someday.

Also, I can't resist writing another ChangKyu story! :3 Sorry Yunjae, but I think Changkyu's becoming my new OTP! XD

“Just look at the two of them!” Kyuhyun muttered irritably under his breath. “Being so happy and smiley and just plain--just plain--ugh!”

Kim Kibum and Shim Changmin were “the two of them” that Kyuhyun was complaining about. They were sitting together on a couch in a far corner of the waiting room where the SM idols were staying until the SMTown concert begins in about an hour from now. And Kibum and Changmin have been talking, and joking, and laughing there in their small bubble for a while now.

Of course, what Kibum and Changmin were doing seemed completely normal and innocent, since they were friends.

So, why would it cause the evil Super Junior maknae to be muttering darkly to himself for about half an hour now?

Well, the reason for this is that ever since Kibum had returned to SM Entertainment a few months ago and became an active member of Super Junior once again, Changmin and Kibum were always together whenever they were free from schedules. And on those lucky instances where DBSK and Super Junior would make appearances together (such as now), the two of them get even more time together.

Again, there seemed to be nothing wrong with this, since they were such close friends before Kibum became an inactive member and eventually left the company.

But that was the problem for Kyuhyun. He and Changmin had only really started to hang out often and become best friends after Kibum was no longer active in Super Junior. And now that he was back, Kyuhyun barely got to spend any more time with Changmin.

Changmin was now always with Kibum again.

Maybe it was a bit silly and kind of overdramatic, but Kyuhyun felt that he was slowly being replaced as Changmin’s best friend.

Just then, Kibum turned his body more to the direction of the chattering Changmin. Kyuhyun’s eyes narrowed dangerously when he saw that their knees were touching.

Kyuhyun let out a mixture of a snarl and a growl, and he stomped across the waiting room towards the door, not being handle seeing those two so close. And now it’s also physically close as well! Grr.

The sight of the fuming Super Junior maknae drew the attention of all s, the other idols, and the staff. Heck, even Kibum glanced away from his conversation to give a confused and concerned look at Kyuhyun.

But not Changmin.

Kyuhyun’s best friend (and Kyuhyun wasn’t even sure anymore if they were still friends, let alone best friends) just carried on talking to Kibum.

As he left the waiting room, Kyuhyun thought that he had never felt this down in his whole life before.

Kyuhyun opened his laptop excitedly and cracked and stretched his fingers as a warm-up.

Tonight was his weekly Starcraft night. It was the one night every week when he planted himself in front his laptop after their schedules for the day until the early hours of the next morning, and nothing (not friends inviting him to have a drink nor even Leeteuk coming around midnight and demanding he get some sleep) could take him away from it.

Especially not tonight, when there was an important game that Kyuhyun simply needed to win and prove his gaming expertise.

However, as he was waiting for his game to load, his door suddenly opened, and Changmin’s head peeked into his room.

“Changmin!” Kyuhyun said, pleasantly surprised. He was not conscious of the wide grin that was slowly spreading across his face and of the sparkle that was now in glinting in his eyes.

“Hey, Kyu. Just popped in to say hi,” Changmin greeted him hurriedly.

Kyuhyun felt his stomach drop in disappointment when Changmin already made to leave right away.

“WAIT!”

Changmin paused, his eyebrows raised at Kyuhyun’s unexpected and loud exclamation.

“Er--uhm--what--what are you doing here in my dorm, anyway?” Kyuhyun asked.

“Oh, I’m picking up Bummie hyung. He and I are going out, we’re gonna hang out for a while in a bar. Well, he said to invite you, too, but I told him it’s your gaming night tonight… Okay, Bummie hyung must be waiting already. Bye, Kyu!”

And Changmin left, closing Kyuhyun’s door behind him. Kyuhyun stared at the door.

“But… but… I would have gone with you instead,” Kyuhyun whispered sadly. The darkness and quietness of his room made Kyuhyun’s whisper seem louder and lonelier.

These days, it felt like the only words he gets from Changmin are “Hi!” and “Bye!”

Kyuhyun shut down his laptop, suddenly no longer in the mood the play his favorite game. For the first time ever.

“I’m worried about Kyuhyun,” Leeteuk said quietly to s the next day as he watched Kyuhyun’s retreating figure disappear around the corner.

That morning Kyuhyun, usually one of the last to wake (until someone dragged him out of bed), was first in the kitchen. Even before Ryeowook got there to start making breakfast. Then, when the food was ready, Kyuhyun just ate quietly instead of giving his hyungs a too-early-bullying, and he was finished with his food and leaving the table to shower just as the last members to wake up were joining them for breakfast.

“What about him?” Sungmin immediately asked, concerned. He too had noticed how Kyuhyun was… different this morning.

“Last night, when I went into his room to check on him, he was already sound asleep on his bed,” Leeteuk said, sounding confused. Everyone knew that “to check on him” are code words for “yell at the gaming maknae to get some sleep.”

“That’s a first. And it was only around 10pm when I came. I don’t think he played that stupid game of his at all last night,” the leader continued worriedly.

“Maybe he was just too tired from our schedules yesterday?” Kangin shrugged, not really as bothered as Leeteuk and just continuing to eat his breakfast.

“But this is Kyuhyun and his gaming night that we're talking about,” Siwon frowned. “He’s never too tired to play that game. Ever.”

“Yeah, remember when we had schedules for almost three days straight?” Ryeowook added, now also looking concerned. “Most of us crashed when we got back, here but he still went on to play his Starcraft that night.”

“So, he’s finally losing interest in that infernal game of his,” Shindong said unconcernedly. “The way I see it, that just means quieter nights for us, instead of having our sleep disturbed by explosions and his yells.”

“It’s not just the game, though,” Yesung said slowly. He thought back to how Kyuhyun was acting these days. “Have you guys noticed how he just seems so… sad lately?”

“What are you saying, hyung? That the maknae’s depressed?” Donghae asked with wide eyes.

s’ inputs, especially Donghae’s, made Leeteuk even more worried about the maknae.

“Don’t worry, I’ll talk to him,” Heechul volunteered himself.

And that just alarmed Leeteuk even more. Even the members who weren’t so bothered about Kyuhyun acting oddly before now became concerned with the situation. Anything that Heechul got himself into always seems to become something to be concerned about, after all.

“Er, maybe we should let Leeteuk hyung or Ryeowook do the talking, hyung?” Sungmin suggested meekly, fidgeting in his seat uncomfortably. He was worried that if there’s really something bothering Kyuhyun right now, Heechul getting into the middle of it might probably make it worse.

“Nah, I can do it. I have a hunch on what’s upsetting that brat lately,” Heechul smirked knowingly.

That did nothing to appease s, but they all knew that there was no stopping him, so no one protested.

Throughout the whole breakfast discussion, Kibum just sat and ate quietly, listening to s and looking quite thoughtful about the whole matter.

The last thing that Kyuhyun needed right now was a “heart-to-heart” with Kim Heechul of all people.

Kyuhyun had just stepped out of the recording room when his diva hyung suddenly appeared at his side and dragged him off to the cafeteria, claiming that he “wanted to have lunch with his favorite dongsaeng.”

“I thought that was Ryeowook!” Kyuhyun had tried to protest, but it was no use.

So, he now found himself having a one-on-one conversation with his diva hyung.

“Jungsu’s worried about you,” Heechul began casually as he forked some of his salad into his mouth.

“He’s always worrying about everyone,” Kyuhyun rolled his eyes dismissively. Heechul gave him a pointed look, and he sighed. “Alright, what about me is he worrying about this time?”

“It’s not just him, actually,” Heechul sniffed. “All the other members have noticed how oddly you’re acting lately. Donghae even went as far as to worry that you might be depressed.”

Kyuhyun snorted at the absurdity of it. “What, can’t I just be feeling down and tired without being ‘depressed’? I’m just tired from all our schedules, hyung. Plus, I also have my musical rehearsals apart from Super Junior activities. I’m just feeling a bit blue because of my full schedule. We’ve all been at that point.”

“No, not really,” Heechul said cryptically, eying his maknae beadily. “We haven’t been ‘feeling blue’ and looking all depressed because Shim Changmin didn’t come to watch our latest musical, unlike how he always used to, for starters.”

Kyuhyun stared at him.

Kim Heechul sure was a lot of things--Kyuhyun usually preferred to use the words "pushy," and "annoying," and "dramatic" for him. But now, Heechul was displaying how he can also be quite "perceptive."

“I--I--I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Kyuhyun muttered, looking away. “Besides, Changmin doesn’t always come to all of my musicals. And, in case you haven’t noticed, he’s also an idol and is quite busy these days…”

“Busy with Kibum, you mean?” Heechul smirked. “Oh, I have noticed that.”

Kyuhyun said nothing. Him squashing the peas on his plate with such force that it was as if they offended him spoke volumes, though.

“You’re upset that Changmin’s spending all his time with Kibum instead of you these days,” Heechul soldiered on, pointing at Kyuhyun with his fork.

Kyuhyun said nothing again. The peas were completely mushed now.

“Aish!” Heechul said exasperatedly, the last of his patience already used (and he wasn’t even a very patient person to begin with). “Just admit it already, maknae!”

“Alright, alright!” Kyuhyun snapped. “He’s always with Kibum hyung! He’s always ‘Bummie hyung this’ and ‘Bummie hyung that.’ Excuse me if I’m starting to feel cast aside and forgotten!”

Heechul smirked again. “You’re jealous,” the diva said simply, pointing out the obvious.

“Well, duh!” Kyuhyun rolled his eyes. “My best friend position is being usurped! So, forgive me if I’m feeling jealous and irritated by that! Who wouldn’t be?!”

“But you’re not just jealous as a ‘best friend,'” Heechul said wisely.

Kyuhyun now looked puzzled. “What? What are you talking about, hyung? Why else would I be jealous apart from that?”

Heechul stared at him blankly for a few moments. Then, he let out an exasperated huff and picked up his phone.

Leeteuk didn’t know what to make of Heechul’s text:

‘The maknae is fine. An idiot in denial, yes, but fine.’

Kyuhyun hadn’t felt this happy in a while. No, he wasn’t only happy--he was ecstatic.

Why is that, you ask?

Well, it’s because the Kyu-line was having an evening together tonight. And Kyuhyun was happy about it because Kibum technically wasn’t part of the Kyu-line. Meaning that he will finally have Changmin’s attention all to himself for once!

Then, Kyuhyun glanced at Minho, who was seated beside him and was playing with his phone as they waited for Changmin at the bowling alley that they had rented for themselves that night.

‘Well, to myself and to Minho,’ Kyuhyun corrected himself.

Still, that was good enough reason to celebrate.

But just then, reality chose to slap Kyuhyun on the face.

Changmin finally arrived.

Towing none other Kim Kibum himself behind him.

“Hey, guys! I invited Bummie hyung with us tonight! Hope that’s okay,” Changmin said as he and Kibum reached the booth where Kyuhyun and Minho were seated. He talked as if he hadn’t just crushed all of Kyuhyun’s hopes and dreams.

Not to mention Kyuhyun’s heart as well.

Though Kyuhyun still wasn’t exactly sure why his heart felt like it was breaking just because it was getting more and more obvious that he was being replaced as Changmin’s best friend. Was it normal for it to hurt this much for just not being someone’s best friend anymore? Was it normal to feel… heartbroken in a situation like this?

“Kibum hyung!” Minho shouted happily, standing up and giving Kibum a hug. “Of course we don’t mind! We love having you with us, don’t we, Kyu? Kyu?”

Kyuhyun forced a smile on his face. “Yeah. Of--of course.”

And just when Kyuhyun thought his night was already ruined, fate proved that it hadn’t been ruined enough yet: they divided in pairs to play bowling, and, at once, Changmin partnered with Kibum.

This was just so wrong on sooo many levels. First, Changmin always used to partner with Kyuhyun. Second, Minho at bowling--Kyuhyun didn’t want to be stuck with him. Third, the evil maknaes of DBSK and SJ are known for annihilating all competition when they play together, and it wasn’t happening now. Last, Changmin was supposed to be Kyuhyun’s! Only Kyuhyun’s!

Erm, Kyuhyun’s game partner, that is. He just totally meant it in the gaming sense. Game partner. Bowling partner, in this case. You know. Since they were playing bowling tonight.

…Yeah.

And Kyuhyun’s mood worsened the longer they played. He was so upset about the pairings for tonight that he was actually playing worse than Minho! Good God.

“I can’t believe this!” Minho moaned piteously as Changmin and Kibum were nearing victory. Again. For the third effin’ time tonight. “Why do I have to get paired with Kyuhyun?! I want to play with Kibum hyung! Changmin, let me partner with Kibum hyung for the next round!”

“No!” Changmin scowled, pulling Kibum into his arms possessively. “Mine! You’re stuck with Kyuhyun and his lousy gaming for tonight!”

Kyuhyun stared.

As if his heart needed more breaking that night.

Changmin had Kibum in his arms.

Changmin thought his gaming was lousy.

Changmin had Kibum in his arms.

Changmin didn’t want to partner with him.

Changmin had Kibum in his arms!

Kyuhyun suddenly dropped the bowling ball that he was holding, narrowly missing Minho’s foot, which was quite fortunate. Well, Kyuhyun personally thought it was unfortunate, seeing as how Minho was just ing about him moments ago.

But, anyway…

“YAH!” Minho said angrily.

Changmin and Kibum stared at Kyuhyun.

“I’m--I’m gonna go home already, guys,” Kyuhyun muttered tersely, not meeting anyone’s questioning eyes. He walked away from the bowling lanes and made to grab his bag from their booth.

His three friends exchanged confused looks, and they quickly followed him. Changmin had thankfully already let go of Kibum, but too late--Kyuhyun was already feeling too heartbroken for the night.

“What’s wrong, Kyu?” Changmin asked concernedly.

‘Oh, now he’s acting so concerned!’ Kyuhyun couldn’t help but think bitterly. And of course the idiot still couldn’t figure out “what’s wrong” with Kyuhyun right now!

“Are you sick?” Kibum inquired. Then, he grimaced. “Please tell me you’re not sick. You know how overbearing and fussy Leeteuk hyung gets when one of us is sick. Especially when it’s you, since you’re the maknae.”

“Yeah, I’m sick at heart,” Kyuhyun muttered quietly.

Kibum frowned. “What was that?”
