The Fourth Hour

Diexolik Lovers

Yui finished checking out the book she needed for a class research assignment and left the library, finding the deserted hallways even more eerie than usual now that it was past midnight and most of the students had gone home already.  The school was still a maze to her, and she hurriedly tried to find her way down to the front entrance on the ground floor, worried that she might have the Sakong brothers get tired of waiting for her and leave her stranded there for a night.

Though I'm not sure spending the night in the Sakong mansion is actually any better.

Still, she didn't want to give the vampire brothers any reason to take issue up with her, so she made haste descending a flight of stairs she thought was in the right direction.  That was when a wooden box with cords sitting atop a cabinet in a short hallway off the side caught her eye.

Is that.. a telephone box?

Yui put her original destination on hold and instead rushed to the wooden box, placing her school bag next to it on the cabinet.  It was indeed an antique telephone box, the brass decorated receiver hanging on the side and the number turn dial on the front.  Yui grabbed the receiver and reached for the dial, warily scanning her sides to make sure none of the Sakong brothers just happened to be there.

But of course, a Sakong brother would just happen to be there.  It was Kyungsoo, to be exact, and he was silently watching Yui from the closed end of the hallway, with a bored, judgmental look.

"K-Kyungsoo! You're still here," Yui tried to sound normal as her trembling hand replaced the phone receiver.

"Yui, don't you know why I'm here?" Kyungsoo asked sullenly, as if he was disappointed he even had to put the question.

"Huh?" Yui frantically brainstormed excuses in her head for why she was at the phone box and that she wasn't actually trying to call for help to be rescued from the vampires, but she was drawing a complete blank.

"I'm thirsty," Kyungsoo answered for her, "and so is Teddy. Say, Teddy, what do you think of Yui for being so insensitive?"

Yui was now used to seeing the shortest vampire brother mumbling to the teddy bear in his arms, but the innocent-looking sadist freaked her out the most and she was relieved he wasn't being suspicious of her for trying to use the phone.

"I-I'm sorry. Ah, I'll go and buy you something," she offered, and then crouched a little to face the stuffed doll in the friendliest manner she could muster, "I'm sorry, Teddy."

"Would you please not address my Teddy as though you know him? He doesn't need anyone other than me to talk to him." Kyungsoo's cold voice stung Yui's ears even though he was speaking quietly and smoothly. The next second he grew tender and sweetly whispered to his doll, "Isn't that right, Teddy?"

"S-sorry, I didn't know," Yui backed away, embarrassed with her failure to deal with Kyungsoo like a child who had make-believe friends and further freaked out by his incomprehensible behavior. "Anyway, I'll go buy the drink."

She scurried off, hoping she would come across a vending machine somewhere, since she had no idea how to make her way to the cafeteria, if this school even had one.  Thankfully, she didn't have to go far to find a drink machine and had enough change in her pocket to get a basic cup of black coffee.  She carefully cradled the hot drink back to the hallway where Kyungsoo was standing.

"Here, I got you coffe-"

Before she could finish talking, Kyungsoo swatted the cup away, spilling its steaming contents on her hands and over the floor.  Yui yelped more from surprise than from the burn of the liquid on her hands.

Kyungsoo was livid and roared with veins popping out of his neck, "I like things that are sweet! I absolutely hate bitter things like coffee! Why don't you know that?"

Yui blinked back tears as she clutched her reddened hands to herself and took a deep breath. "Look, you didn't have to slap it over just because you-"

"Don't talk back to me!" Kyungsoo's wide eyes widened even further and Yui would have worried they would pop out of their sockets if she wasn't busy fearing for her life, the vampire boy looked mad enough to strangle her. "You're just a worthless human!"

"I-I'm sorry," Yui mumbled, not knowing how else to respond to such an accusation.

"Why are you apologizing when you're not even sorry?!" he continued to scream in her face.

"Then what do you want me to do?" she asked, exasperated and desperate to appease him.

All of a sudden, Kyungsoo calmed down and lowered his gaze to the ground, looking like a sad and pitiful child. "I want you to figure that out on your own," he muttered in a pout.

Yui swallowed a sigh and tried to shake off the fear and frustration from a second ago in order to sound bright and cheery. "T-then, I'll go get you something else to dri-"

"No, thank you," he declined, his unblinking eyes trailing up to stare at her blankly. "I'm no longer interested."

He took her by surprise when he suddenly reached for her hand and she couldn't help but flinch at the contact, but his touch was delicate.

"The coffee got all over your fingers, didn't it?" he murmured, bringing her hand to his face.  "Did it burn? You poor thing," he said without an ounce of sincerity and then proceeded to flick his tongue out to her fingers.

Yui pulled her hand back with a shudder, cursing her lack of reflexes and the return of fear that seemed to root her feet on the spot.

He wants my blood. He wants to bite me and drink my blood, because that's what he was thirsty for. But I thought he said he didn't want it anymore?!

"Tell me," Kyungsoo spoke up, boring her down with resentful eyes, "do you hate me? Do you? Do you want to know more about me?"

"It's not like I hate you..," Yui answered, trying to be honest without offending him so that he wouldn't accuse her of lying and go flying into another fit of rage. "And I would like to know more about you, but.."

"Then please make the effort to understand me properly," he muttured as he turned to walk towards the balcony doors at the end of the hallway.

What..? I've already been trying, but I seriously cannot understand that nutcase!

Yui shook her head and with a defeated huff, moved to get her school bag she had left next to the phone box, only to find that it was gone.

"Kyungsoo, have you seen my bag anywhere?" she called after his retreating back.

"I put it up on the roof," he replied, pausing before the doors.

"Wha- Why?!"

"To punish you," he said with a smirk over his shoulder, before whispering loudly to his doll, "Teddy, the phone there has been broken for two weeks now. Isn't that common knowledge?"

Kyungsoo left Yui gaping after him and the slam of the balcony doors startled her out of her dumbfounded stupor.

So he knew. He knew exactly what I was doing and he was just playing with me this whole time. This is all just a game of cat-and-mouse to him.

Yui felt a shiver run up her spine but tried not to let her encounter with Kyungsoo get to her.  Her situation was already greatly disturbing of the mind, but if she couldn't keep her sanity intact with sheer willpower, she would surely break down before any form of help could reach her.

On the bright side, at least Kyungsoo told me where he put my bag.

With a resigned sigh, Yui made her way back up the floors to the rooftop and spotted her school bag deserted in a corner of the fenced courtyard.  She retrieved it and began walking back to the exit when she suddenly heard the quiet strum of a guitar coming from the other side of the courtyard.

"I love you, you live forever in my head," Chanyeol sang in his deep voice, sounding uncharacteristically melancholic, as he sat on a lone chair facing the other way and crooned to the night sky. "Whether you desire it or not, I have never forgotten you, not even for one moment. The sound of your breath in my ears, your scent still remains thickly. I remember your everything."

He trailed off wistfully and Yui could see him lost in his serenade to his invisible lover, and though his eyes were closed, his face and voice betrayed so much genuine emotion that she wondered if this was really the flippant Chanyeol she was seeing.  But Chanyeol took one deep breath and his enamored expression vanished into a hard frown, his rich and resonant voice turning cold and accusatory.

"Hey, you over there." He glared out of the corner of his eye, as he stood up and placed his guitar on the chair.  Yui tried to hide from his line of sight behind the rooftop exit, but he had clearly seen her already and appeared by her side instantly; he grabbed her shoulder to whip her around to face him. "Little , it's bad to eavesdrop~."

It was in his usual singsong tone, but Yui could tell he was actually quite pissed. "I-I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to."

"But you heard some things, didn't you?" he said, still smiling, but his large hand weighed heavily on her shoulder and she couldn't help but feel intimidated as she peered up at him.

Was he always this tall? Did he always seem so.. strong?

"Y-yes, I did, but-"

"Well now, what shall we do with you?"

Chanyeol's hand traveled up from her shoulder and the next second he was gripping her neck in a chokehold.

"I.. can't breathe..!" Yui was barely able to spit out as she tried in vain to pry at his fingers.

"I think you need to be punished," he murmured amusedly and tightened his grip so that her vision was beginning to blur and her arms dropped limply to her sides, her bag falling to the ground.

On the verge of losing consciousness, Yui felt herself being slammed against the exit doors and Chanyeol had ceased choking her, but his hand stayed wrapped around her neck to keep her locked in the victimized position.

"Where would you like it, Little ? I'll do it to you where you're most sensitive," he whispered sensually into her ear. "We dwellers of the night become particularly thirsty on nights such as this."

Yui wedged her eyes open to see the full moon shining down on her, mockingly bright.

"We become so terribly thirsty that we are driven mad with the need to quench that thirst," he mumbled against her skin and then a stripe up her neck.

"S-stop.." She hated how weak she sounded, how weak and helpless she was in the hands of this overpowered monster, but there was nothing she could do about it, and she hated that, too.

"I don't know if it's the moonlight, but I'm getting a little excited," he mused to himself and then plunged his fangs into her neck where the skin had just barely healed from the last time Jongin had drank his fill.

Yui expected that she would probably pass out from losing too much blood right after being nearly choked to death, but oddly, Chanyeol drew away after only a brief moment of .

"This is.. Could it be..?" he murmured, sounding incredulous.

Taking advantage of his hesitation, Yui shoved him off of her and rushed through the doors, speeding down the stairs and praying that he wouldn't follow her.

For once, her prayer was answered.

She was always shuttled to school in the Sakong's limo, so she didn't know the area, but she was able to leave the school building without any of the vampire brothers appearing out of thin air to stop her and she kept running towards urban city lights until she reached a street that was deserted but was still well-lit.  She spied a public phone booth on the sidewalk ahead and quickly got inside, digging into her pockets with shaky hands.

Please, please, tell me I have some change left.

She broke out in a cold sweat when her left pocket came out empty, and nearly broke out in relieved tears when her fingers grasped one last remaining coin in her right pocket, and lost no time in dialing an international call to her father.  She heard the dial tone go through and then the click of call being connected.

"Hello? Father? Listen, I've been caught up in something crazy-"

"Crazy, you say?" Chanyeol's taunting voice came through the receiver and Yui's heart plummeted straight down to her feet. "That's hardly the case, Little ."

"H-how..?" Yui stared at the receiver in her hands in disbelief. "How is this happening?"

Chanyeol chuckled, "I know every little thing about you, Little ."

The hair on the back of Yui's neck stood on end and she could feel him staring at her.  Her breathing turned ragged and her knees were shaking, but she had to look.  She slowly turned her head and saw him; Chanyeol was there, standing across the road with his cellphone to his ear and a cruel smile playing on his lips, while his eyes glinted with something even more sinister.

So my prayer wasn't answered after all.

Yui grew hysterical and dashed out of the phone booth, trying to get as far away as she could, though she knew deep down that it was probably futile.  She ran past several shops, but only their signs were lit and they were all closed, and no one else was out in the streets except the few cars that whizzed by too fast to be flagged down.  In her desperation, she considered jumping out into the street and hoping a car would stop in time not to run her over, but there was no need because she had just run into Chanyeol himself.

"Did you enjoy your short-lived freedom, Little ?" he leered down at her patronizingly.

"Let go of me!" she tried to struggle against his impossibly strong hold on her, but a talk show being broadcast publicly on one of the building's giant LCD display caught Chanyeol's eye and his grip on her slackened.

"It is my pleasure to introduce today's guest, Sakong Heechul-sshi," the show host began. "Sakong Heechul-sshi is one of the many politicians who are very enthusiastic in regards to Korea's new strategic foreign policy, and today, I would like to ask him about his concrete measures."

By now, Chanyeol had turned his full attention to the show, though his grip on her wrist remained secure.

"What is it?" Yui asked, immediately concerned by his change in behavior, despite having run for her life to escape him mere seconds ago.

"That guy is statesman Sakong Heechul, our father," Chanyeol explained, speaking with great derision as the display showed an older man with refined and strikingly beautiful features. "Though to me, he is merely the object of my hatred."

"Sakong.. Heechul?" Yui stared up at the man and for some reason she was completely enthralled with him, he felt so familiar, and she was so overwhelmed with emotion that she didn't even realize her lips uttered the next words, "Karl.. Heinz.."

Yui's eyes rolled back and her consciousness slipped away before she could register Chanyeol catching her from falling to the ground and his astonished murmur of, "Just who are you?"

-=-=-=-

Yui awoke lying atop her bed, still in her school uniform, and the air outside her window was heavy with pre-dawn mist.

What happened to me?

She remembered that she had been trying to run away from Chanyeol in the city, but he had caught her, and then they were watching some show on an outdoor TV display, and there was a man.. some politician..

Yui felt sick trying to remember the details after that so she gave up and reached for her comfort object, her cross rosary necklace that she kept on her person at all times.  She felt the despair creep into her heart as she recalled finally finding a working telephone, only to have Chanyeol somehow intercept and hijack her call to her father.  Tears threatened to spill out of her eyes but she blinked them away and shook her head with determination.

I am not going to let this break me. I won't give up.

Yui clutched her cross close to her heart for support and put it away before creeping silently out of her bedroom.  She expected that at this hour, the vampires would be sleeping, so it would be the best chance she would get to escape the mansion.  Sure enough, she made it to the front doors without incident, but the last time she had tried to open them, they had refused to budge.  She held her breath and slowly pushed against the door, but it easily swung open.

It's not locked.. Well, what am I waiting for?

Yui made sure not to let the door slam shut and then she was running as hard as her unsteady legs could manage.  She ran past the gargoyle fountain in the driveway, past the gates at the edge of the manor, past the forest and the lake, until she was jogging alongside large roads that led to who knew where.  She didn't have a destination in mind, since anywhere seemed safer than the Sakong mansion.  But when she saw a building with steeples just off the main road, her heart was flooded with relief and she took shelter in what she thought was the perfect safe haven, a church.

It was a beautiful church, with a high-rising spire and magnificent stained glass windows tinted in blues and depicting magenta roses.  It was vacant and Yui walked straight up the center aisle between the pews until she stood right before the altar laden with freshly cut roses.  She felt at peace, for once in what felt like a very long time, and she clasped her hands in prayer.

"Dear God, is this another trial You have intended for me? Is my father alive and well?"

"I wouldn't bother asking God, because you won't get a response," that dreaded deep voice cut through the holy silence and instantly evoked terror in Yui's whole being.  She whipped around to see Chanyeol standing before the doors inside the church, but he looked unscathed. "Good morning, Little ."

I thought vampires couldn't set foot in holy places?! Oh, what did I expect when I already knew they're not affected by the holy cross!

"How did you know I was here?" Yui surprised herself by sounding much calmer than she was at the moment.

"I said it already, didn't I?" he replied, sauntering down the aisle towards Yui, "That I know everything there is to know about you. So you should really stop trying to run away."

Yui put on a brave face and tried to sound unaffected, demanding, "Do you know something about my father?"

"Who cares about stuff like that?" he retorted flippantly, before grabbing her shoulder and roughly pulling her close. "You know, I'm here to expose you for what you really are, Little ."

She squirmed in his grasp, thrashing about to prevent him from sinking his teeth into her neck. "Stop it! Help me, anybody! Please, God!"

Mustering up all her strength into one final push, she successfully shoved him away and he fell backwards to the ground with a grunt.  Yui stared at Chanyeol's hunched figure, stunned that she had actually overpowered the super-strength vampire, but also slightly scared that she may have hurt him--clearly an unnecessary concern, but worrying about such a thing was an instinctual reaction for Yui.  But then Chanyeol's shoulders were heaving in an overdramatic fit of laughter and she could see that he was perfectly fine as he stood up straight.

"Don't waste your breath praying," he sneered as he carded his fingers through his hair. "God is nothing more than nonsense created by men."

No. I won't let him say that when we're in the house of God.

"That isn't true," Yui stated with conviction.

"Well, look at that. You seriously believe in him? You actually think that he will come save you if you believe in him," he mocked her condescendingly. "Are you stupid, or are you naive? Maybe you're both."

Chanyeol closed in on her, trapping her against the altar. "Either way, you're simple-minded. I find your innocence appealing, Little ."

Then he suddenly dropped his playful tone and forcefully gripped Yui's arm, eliciting a pained gasp from her.  He continued with a dead serious expression, "But you know, there is nothing to believe in, and you need to do more than pray to accomplish anything."

"Even so, I will still pray, and I will still believe!" she declared, defiantly locking eyes with Chanyeol, who eventually went back to his smirking self.

"You're at your best today, Little ," he lilted. "Well, time to expose the lust that lurks inside of you."

With that, he grabbed both of her wrists and pushed her down, pinning her to the rose petal covered altar. "Now tell me. Would you like me to start from the top or the bottom?"

"You can't do this in a church!" In such a position, Yui was losing her courage fast, but she would make a protest until her dying breath.

"Aww, are you angry? Your eyes are fascinating like that," he drawled with amusement. "Go ahead, it's cute. You can get even angrier if you want. You can even call me names. But no matter how hard you try, you are no match for me. Because I am inhuman."

Yui squeezed her eyes shut, not wanting to see Chanyeol pull off her neck ribbons and undo her shirt. "You will be forced to submit, and you will be at my mercy. I will see the places you have been too embarrassed to show anyone. And in the end, you will be mine."

He lowered his face to her exposed chest and bit into her flesh, giving her such a newly painful sensation that her whimpers for him to stop sounded like pitiful begging.

"I can't stand it," he panted deliriously, "Just the thought of it makes me-"

"I will never submit to you," she uttered, glaring up at him, "Never!"

But that only seemed to amuse him further.  He chuckled down at her like she was an endearing child. "Look at you, acting so courageous. Not bad, I like it. Now, let's see how much you can take in one day."

He leaned back and grabbed her thigh to prop her leg up on the altar.  Holding her horrified gaze, he kissed down to the middle of her inner thigh and then bit the tender skin there, forcing Yui to bite her own lip to keep from screaming out loud.

"Does it hurt? You poor thing," he murmured, pausing from his . "All right, I'll make it hurt even more."

Yui refused to look at him and instead stared at the domed stained glass ceiling through eyes blurred with tears.

"I'm going to let you in on a secret," he continued, "You were offered up to us as a sacrifice by the very church you have such faith in."

"You're lying," she croaked, but she couldn't hide the doubt that crossed her eyes.

"Fine, then tell me who sent you to us?" he asked smugly, and it didn't take long for her to begin panicking.

"That can't be..."

"I love the look of despair on your face," he taunted her, but she was no longer hearing anything he was saying. "Now, let's enjoy ourselves more. Follow me down to hell."

He took her blood by the neck, but she was so numb in her state of shock that she made no reaction to his fangs piercing her skin.

After drinking his fill, Chanyeol sat up and looked down at Yui who still stared unseeingly at the ceiling.  With a smirk, he her tear-streaked cheek and leaned down to whisper into her ear, "No one has been saved by their belief."

A/N: Aaaahh sorry for the long wait! What do you think about Heenim being Karlheinz? :P I added lyrics from EXO's 'Hurt' to match some of the things Chanyeol was singing so that's why it doesn't read smoothly lol. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this chapter! <3

(As for the changes to the characters, the story will probably stay the same since I want to follow along with each episode and I'm afraid deviating too much will mess up the story further down the line, but I will still try to make the vampire boys seem more EXO as much as possible! Thanks for your feedback and hope you'll still want to read!)
