Bullseye

Monster

The warehouse was in the same state as when they'd left. MBLAQ was still gathered in an intense poker game and Sohee was still typing away at her wall of technology. Hoya immediately broke away from Snitch and raced of to the back room - presumeably to speak to the Bossmen. Whatever Beast's leader had told the man had him rattled. She was surprised they even made it back to the Warehouse in one piece.

"Snitch!" Myungsoo called urgently as soon as he saw her enter, jogging towards her with a sandwhich in hand. She smiled and gave a small wave.

"What did we miss?"

"Field test."

"What?"

He held up a hand and swallowed a bite of food before elaborating. "Max wanted you to do your field test as soon as you got back. They'll probably be out any minute."

She gulped. "You serious?"

"Of course I am. Why? You nervous?"

"Maybe a little."

"It's understandable, but don't worry. You'll be fine." He patted her back and offered a reassuring smile.

Snitch blinked a couple of times, a bit shocked at L's sudden sentiments. It wasn't like him to be so encouraging. She was about to say something on the subject when Sunggyu materialized at her partner's side, nodding a quick greeting to her before dragging him off towards the other Infinite boys. She sighed. As much as she liked this new, less statuesqueL, she couldn't help but miss the mysterious boy she'd met in that jail cell not too long ago. He was far more unsettling then.

She didn't have long to dwell on the matter before Yunho and Max emerged from their room with Hoya, still talking in hushed whispers to each other. Max shook his head and said something to his partner, ending the discussion. G.O. waved but the leader was too busy scanning the room for someone. His eyes narrowed when they landed on Snitch.

She fidgeted uncomfortably as he approached her. As much as she wanted to look away and build up at least a little composure, there was something about Max's gaze that held her there, frozen to the floor. He stopped in front of her, eyeing her up and down before crossing his arms. She tried to muster up as much courage as she could and returned the gesture, sizing him up. Her eyes moved from his scuffed boots to the gun at his belt, passing his shirt and his well-built chest. She tried not to in a breath as she noticed how muscular he really was. She couldn't help but wonder what it might be like to - no, let's not go there. For now, he's an opponent.

Yunho, on the other hand, was much more friendly. He smiled warmly and extended a hand to Snitch, shaking hers firmly.
"Snitch, right?"

"I think I answer to that name now, yes."

"I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Yunho, this is Max as I'm sure you know. We - well, I - can't wait to see how you do out there. Ready?"

She was a bit taken aback, but swallowed her nerves and nodded nonetheless. "I don't have much of a choice, do I?"

"No, you really don't."

"Here, so you don't get completely lost if one of us vanishes from your sights." Sungjong handed her another one of Sohee's gadgets - a watch fused with GPS tracking.

"Thanks." She mumbled and strapped it onto her wrist. She tried to shake off the rest of her nerves, but they kept coming back with every breeze that swept by.

Sungjong whistled and glanced around at the scenery. They were currently all gathered on the steel roof of Warehouse 9, waiting for Yunho. As much as she loved free-running, she still was unsure about this whole ordeal. Running with Hoya was different, safer. They were on the ground then.

"Alright, you two ready? Wait, let me reiterate something," Yunho appeared with a smile. "Run until you reach Yubin and no touching the ground level. Rooftops, scaffolding, and ledges only." His smile turned into a smirk. "Go."

And with that he was off, launching himself past them and off the Warehouse's roof. Sungjong turned to Snitch and winked, following his leader and leaving one very nervous girl behind. She watched as he darted behind Yunho with impossible sure-footedness.

Snitch eventually managed to find her courage and darted after them. The roof ended in a small but study metal pole connecting it to the next one. She followed this pattern until the line of warehouses ended with a sharp drop off, another several roofs below. She jumped down to those and kept running, launching over fences and sliding under other obstacles, thoroughly enjoying the good memories that came rushing back with the feeling of running. At one point she was almost close enough to grasp Sungjong's shirt and pull him back. Once the boy noticed this, he immediately sped up and veered off to another scaffolding. Yunho, to say the least, was nowhere in sight.

Snitch only got lost twice. Well, maybe three times but that's beside the point. In every instance, she somehow managed to get lucky and end up back on track. Ten minutes after initial take off, she was skidding to a halt in front of Yubin and Yunho. She immediately collapsed to her knees, panting heavily and trying to catch her breath. Sungjong stood up from where he'd been sitting when she arrived.

"Last."
"Oh quit it, Canary. She did good." Sungjong glared at the Wonder Girls member, who only returned the look.

"You were exactly ten seconds behind Jong, nice job. Not a record-breaker, obviously, but still well done. I'll give you a break then we'll head back so Max can have his turn with you." Yunho's smile was a little unsettling, and the content of his sentences didn't help any.

Max was waiting with his arms still crossed, one eyebrow raised. He greeted Yunho and nodded when he heard the results, a slight smirk settling on his face. Snitch felt the strangest urge to walk over there and wipe it off, but she wasn't sure how she'd go about doing that so she left it alone.

To her surprise, L had come up to the roof in her absence. He had a scarf wrapped securly around his neck that covered his mouth, but she could see by the way his dimple was peeking out that he was smiling.

"How'd it go?"

"Better than I thought it would."

"Knew it."

She gave him a playful look and nudged him. Before she could say anything, she was once again interrupted, but this time it was Max's doing.

"Let's move on." He said evenly and all but shoved a sniper rifle into her arms. She stared down at the weapon, trying not to let her eyes widen. How long had it been since she'd handled a gun bigger than the police standard-issue?

Years, that's how long. Almost eleven, if she wanted to be specific. She could still remember the cautious look on her father's face when she grasped the rifle, a bright smile on her ten-years-old face. She felt a familiar ache creep into her chest. What would he say if he could see how she'd come full circle? I knew you come back to my side of the law, you fiery little girl. She could feel small tears prick the corners of her eyes and immediately bit them back. This was no time to stroll down memory lane.

Max was eyeing her carefully - sizing her up. She squared her shoulders and gripped the gun firmly.

"What do I do?"

"I set up a few dummies here and there. Get enough kill shots and you'll be done."

"How much is 'enough?'" She raised an eyebrow.

"You'll know." He didn't say another word and walked off, leaving Snitch frustrated at how vague everyone around her was. She turned to Myungsoo but he only offered a shrug. How helpful.

"This rooftop?" She glanced around her at the various vantage points.

"This one. Clear the area everyone."

Once the roof was clear of any human obstructions, Snitch took it upon herself to get reacquainted with the gun in her hands. The familiar feeling of handling all the power concealed behind the chilling metal was starting to come back. She took a few deep breaths and crossed to the edge, lying flat on her stomach with the gun propped up on the edge. She squeezed one eye shut and looked through the scope with the other.

It only took a few moments before she found her first target dummy and picked it off with a silent -pop-. Her hands still felt a little shaky, and she almost didn't make the second one, but she soon regained her confidence and the rest came easily. She was scanning her surroundings for more, landing on the last one when a familiar figure came into the scope's vision.

Max.

She instantly pulled back. What was he doing? Was this what he meant by "you'll know?"

"If you can hit this dummy," He gestured to said prop behind him, his voice echoing off the buildings, "without even scratching me, then you pass."

She in a breath through her teeth. Was he insane? He was asking way too much. She could kill him, did he even consider that? But he just stood there, arms at his sides with that perpetual smirk on his face. She ground her teeth together, he resolve wavering.

Then it occurred to her. This was all part of his smug little test. This didn't determine if she passed or not - it was for him to decide whether or not she trusted him. The obvious answer was no, she didn't trust him. She practically just met him and all he did was size her up. Maybe that's what he wanted, to reach a conclusion about her.

Snitch turned back to the edge and propped the rifle up once again, her finger hovering over the trigger. She wasn't about to let a person like Max get to her. If she shot him in the shoulder it could be bandaged and she could fully blame him for it.
She held her breath, closed her right eye, aimed, and lightly squeezed the trigger.

It was hard to tell what path the bullet took, but it seemed to pass by Max and embed itself into the target dummy behind him. Snitch sat back in disbelief. There's no where she could have actually made that without hitting him. Max watched her a moment before glancing down at his arm and examining his coat. After a brief moment, he shrugged and walked back towards the warehouse. It was only once she was inside with Sunggyu ruffling her hair and Sungjong hugging her that she saw the hole her bullet had left in Max's jacket sleeve.

Snitch felt like she was being circled by a pair of great white sharks. It was probably a pretty accurate description, considering the looks both Yunho and Max wore as they walked in a circle around the room, occasionally exchanging a look. When she'd had enough, she stood up, one leather boot making a sound when it connected with the hard floor.

"Is there a reason you asked to speak with me privately?"

"Oh, right." Yunho laughed a bit sheepishly and glanced at Max, who'd taken resident in one of the room's corners. Snitch sat back down, shoving back the swelling impatience, her eyes never leaving Max's shadowy figure.

"So you didn't do exceptionally on that test, but it doesn't mean we're kicking you out. With a lot of practice you could become a pretty good asset to Scorpion." Yunho smiled brightly.

"We weren't going to kick you out anyway. L was pretty adamant about you staying here." Max finally spoke and left his spot in the corner.

"Then what was the point, other than testing my 'abilities?'"

"We needed to know if we could trust you. If you could follow orders based on your confidence and what you perceive other people's wishes to be. You didn't back down when I ordered you to shoot that last dummy, so you passed." He got close, smirking and watching her expression carefully.

"Exactly. Scorpion tests don't have a pass or fail. It's more like we're... gauging you. Yeah, these tests are a gauge." Yunho watched the two, a hint of unease creeping up.

"It doesn't mean I completely trust you. Enough to be around my family, yes, but you're still an ex-cop."

"Max..." Yunho tried to cut in but was waved off.

"I was also in a similar setting before I became a 'cop,' you know." She crossed her arms and attempted to match his gaze. It was no easy feat. Max eventually smirked and backed up. Yunho sighed with relief.

"Now we just need to find you a group." He sounded pleased with himself.

"I already found her one."

"Who?"

"Miss A needs another member to even things out."

"Ah. They're here, right? Let's waste no time."

Before Yunho could grab her arm, Snitch raised her hands in defense. "Slow down, please. Still trying to process a few things."

"Before you meet them..." Max trailed off and sat down.

"Yes?" She sighed.

"Tell us your real name."

The girls were standing around a small table, chatting amongst themselves. Yunho glanced back at the girl following him and gave her a reasurring smile. The shortest of the three noticed their presence and nudged her friends. They greeted their leader warmly, taking a small moment to look at Snitch, who shifted uncomfortably.

"Min, Jia, Suzy - meet your newest member. I'm sure you met her when our L first dragged her in, but she's passed her field test and you need a fourth member, so play nice." He gave them a cautioning look and smiled before briskly walking away. Snitch watched him go for a moment before turning back to her new members. One of them stepped forward, arms crossed, examining her. She hadn't gotten the chance to get formally acquainted with them, so she was awkward, to say the least.

"Snitch... right?" Min asked. She seemed quiet, but not the intimidating kind of quiet, and Snitch could tell she would get along with these girls. She smiled and offered her hand.

"Call me Fei."

-----------

This chapter is dedicated to the lovely Mina_Loves_Music for being such a sweetheart. Thank you, love :)

Let it be known here and now (because I know I'll run into this sooner or later) - I SHIP NO ONE. No one! These people were simply the best fit for the characters, let's leave it at that.

I'd just like to say that I'm so sorry these chapters take so long for me to get out. I've been trying to find time and even when I do it seems to take me almost a full day to type up one chapter (which should not be happening)...

But hopefully I'll make up for it in content, heh heh.

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!

Alot of nice moments in this chapter! I loved the Hoya-Yonghwa part, with the chase and all :) Now I'm kinda curious what Doojoon meant with his warning. I guess things could get ugly pretty fast if Doojoon's alarmed, because he seems pretty calm most of the time. Thank you for updating!
