The first time he saw her.

Wanted: A happy virus

Third Person POV:

Chanyeol looked down at the book and then back at the kid. There was no way that the man could’ve NOT have been seen by this kid. Could there? The kid simply looked back at him and sighed.

“I guess we’re both seeing things, huh? Ahjussi?”

Normally, Chanyeol would’ve playfully pouted at having been called Ahjussi or ‘Old man’, but he was still too shocked to care.

“What are you talking about, Kiddo?” Jihoon asked, kneeling down to the kid’s eye level. He frowned and shrugged.

“No clue, really. I thought I saw a butterfly flying around the hallway and followed it. When I bumped into this Ahjussi, it disappeared…”

He looked back up at Chanyeol, asking if he had any answers to all this confusion, but Chanyeol himself had questions too. Not wanting to scare the poor kid with his silence, he quickly forced a grin and laughed. “Well! Maybe we both just have very realistic imaginations!”

While the kid just frowned a bit more, Jihoon chuckled a bit and then looked at his watch. “Omo! Chanyeol-shi, the show is just about to start! All of us should get going!”

Chanyeol nodded and said good-bye to the kid before walking back towards the scheduled room. He then quickly went in and sat down in front of one of the mics next to Sehun.

“Hyung! Where have you been?! Suho-hyung was JUST about to go look for you because you weren’t picking up your phone!” The younger didn’t hesitate to scold.

Chanyeol quickly pulled out his phone to see it totally out of power. He smiled at his dongsaeng, sheepishly. “Sorry. It died without me knowing.”

“Did something happen?” Jongin, overhearing their conversation, raised his eyebrow. Chanyeol thought for a bit, debating if he should tell them about the ghost-man that gave him a random book or not. He decided on the later.

“Nah. Just forgot where we were supposed to meet up.”

The two maknae narrowed their eyes at his hesitation at first, but dropped it as one of the writer’s started counting down from ten to signal that the show was about to start.

“Hello~ Ladies and Gents! It is 12:00 A.M. and you are listening to (Insert whatever radio show name here. I don’t really care…)!” The DJ practically yelled into the mic as he explained that the show was to have very special guests today.

“Now, I can tell that you all are pretty tired of me talking, so, let’s get this show on the road, huh? Let’s give a big shout out for our VERY special guests! EXO-K!!!”

“We are ONE! Hello~ we are Exo-K!”

Chanyeol couldn’t help but grin in happiness at their usual greeting. It’s been two years since he’s done it with the other members, and now nothing was stopping him from doing it ever again.

“Welcome! Welcome! Well, it sure has been a while since this many of you have been on our show, so can you please introduce yourselves?” The DJ asked, looking at the script.

Jongin spoke up first. “Hello~ I’m Exo’s Kai~!”

“Good morning~ I’m Exo’s Guardian leader, Suho!” Everyone grinned at the way the leader still kept using his same old, usual greeting.

“Hello… I’m Exo’s D.O, I’m very happy to be here.” Kyungsoo exclaimed, despite having a poker face. Chanyeol guested that it was because he was still annoyed at Jongin for taking so long…

“Hi Hi~ I’m Exo’s Maknae, Sehun~” The youngest knew the show was also being broadcasted live online, so he did aegyeo towards the camera behind Jongin. Lastly, it was Chanyeol’s turn.

“Hi guys~ Exo’s happy virus, Chanyeol, is back~ How are you guys doing~!” He looked at the camera and showed a double ‘peace’ sign.

“Oh! That’s right! Chanyeol-shi just got discharge a few weeks ago, didn’t you?”

The giant nodded. “Yes, I did.”

“That’s good to hear! Congrats on discharging after serving our Country! Is that also the reason why Baekhyun-shi isn’t here with us today?” The DJ directed the question at Suho, who also nodded.

“Yes, he will be discharging in a few months along with our Exo-M member, Chen.”

“Ah~ I see… So, so far the members that have already served are You, Suho-shi, along with D.O-shi, Xiumin-shi and Chanyeol-shi. Is that correct?”

“Yes, it is.”

“And soon, Baekhyun-shi and Chen-shi will be added to that list. That’s nice to hear~ What about Kai-shi and Sehun-shi? Do you two have any plans to start yours yet?”

Jongin answered this one. “Why, yes, actually. Sehun-ah and I plan to go together in the next year. After our next tour.”

The DJ nodded in understanding. “I see I see… That’s good but also sad to hear. But! Trust me, two years go by VERY fast in the Army. It’ll end before you know it.”

Chanyeol mentally agreed with him. The two years did go by pretty fast; but, it did slow down sometimes when he missed his family and the members.

After the introductions, the DJ brought the subject to the main part of the show. All the Exo members knew that this was the part where they got to meet some of the kids. Their excitement couldn’t get any higher than it already was.

“So! To start off, I have to say that today is a VERY special day. Because this morning, our station was visited by Singu primary school’s entire 1st grade class! And these kids were so nice and polite to our staff, that we decided to award some of them by letting them meet our other special guests, EXO-K!”

The members of Exo-K whooped and hollered excitedly.

“Now, will those chosen children come in please?” The DJ asked politely and soon, three kids walked through the door. Two of them were girls and the other was a boy which, Chanyeol noticed, was the same one he bumped into earlier.

The DJ motioned them over and told them to sit wherever they wanted. So the two girls took the two empty seats beside Kyungsoo and Jongin, while the boy had no choice but to sit in between Chanyeol and Sehun. Honestly, he didn’t look too happy to be here.

“Hi kiddos! Since you are all now here, would you mind telling us your names and some things about yourselves?” The DJ folded his hands patiently.

The first girl introduced herself as Lee Hana and told everyone that she liked cats and the color Blue. Everyone smiled at how she blushed and tried to hide behind Kyungsoo’s arm in embarrassment.

The second girl introduced herself as Kim Mina and, unlike Hana, she was more brave and confidently announced that she like Sehun-oppa the most out of Exo; which made every one laugh and poke at the said Maknae, teasingly.

It was now the only boy’s turn and they all watched as he just leaned his chin on his palm and sighed.

“My name is Seheun Lukas Park, and I-“ He quickly got caught off by the DJ gasping.

“Seheun? Oh! So you have the same name as the Maknae?” He gestured to Sehun who looked down at the kid with a blank face. The kid just frowned.

“Uhhh…. I’m not sure what you’re getting at… by from what I understand, his name is like ‘Se-hoon’. My name is pronounced like ‘Se-he-un’. So, no. We don’t have the same name...”

The way he responded surprised just about everyone.

That’s weird…. Chanyeol thought. Usually, kids his age either don’t care or love having the same name as another person….

The kid noticed every one’s reactions and sighed again. “If it’s easier on you all, then just call me by my English name, Lukas…”

“Oh- Ok, then. Lukas-shi.” The DJ replied, a bit flabbergasted. “Well, can you tell us a bit about yourself?”

Lukas thought for a bit. “Umm…. There’s nothing REALLY special about me…. I guess I’ll just say that I’m half-Korean and Half-Irish-American; so I know both English and Korean fluently.”

This poked the DJ’s interest. “Oh really? Can I ask from what sides?”

“My father was Korean and my mother is Irish-American. Her Grandmother emigrated from Ireland when my grandmother was just a baby.”

“Wow, that’s pretty cool~” Sehun commented “Is that why your eyes are blue?”

Lukas was about to nod until all the members, plus the DJ were trying to get closer to see his eyes. Chanyeol had already seen how amazing they were, so he just stayed put. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t enjoy the sight of everyone else gaping at how pretty they were.

“I’m guessing you got them from your Eomma?” Suho asked and then smiled when Lukas grinned in response.

“Then your Eomma but be very pretty~” Jongin couldn’t help but stair at the kid’s eyes in awe.

His comment had made Lukas’s head go up with pride, and at that moment, Chanyeol thought the rest of the day would be happy, just like this. That was, until someone scoffed loudly.

“Didn’t you hear him clearly? He said his Appa WAS Korean! Can’t you guys see he’s Appa-less?”

Everyone turned to see that Mina was the one who rudely scoffed and was now glaring at Lukas with her arms crossed. Much to Chanyeol’s surprise, Lukas didn’t react much to the rude comment. He simply cocked his head to the side and stared at her.

“So? What’s that got to do with anything?”

There was absolutely no hint of venom or hurt in his voice, just pure curiosity. This seemed to make Mina more mad. “Because it adds on to how much of a FREAK you are! First off! Your eyes shouldn’t be blue at all, they should be brown! Just like everyone else’s is! Secondly! NORMAL families have Appas in them! Do you know how much of an Eomma’s boy he is because of it?” She asked the last part to everyone in the room. Chanyeol’s brows furrowed a bit before he plastered a heavy smile on and raised his hands in an attempt to calm the young girl down. But what Lukas said next stopped him.

“Ok, then I’m a freak. That just means I’m different from a lot of people in a certain way, and that makes me happy. My dad died when I was a baby, so I don’t remember him. Because I don’t remember him, I don’t have to live with the horror and sorrow of his death. That means I can be there for my Eomma who DOES have to live with the horror and sorrow. So, all-in-all, if being a freak means that I can protect my Eomma, then I’m happy to be one.”

The entire time he spoke, it was like he was only making an innocent point. There was still no venom or hint of hurt at all. Everyone was quiet before Mina started laughing really hard.

“Hahahaha! See! I told you he was an Eomma’s boy!” She pointed at Lukas while she laughed some more. That still didn’t manage to make him angry, but just about all of the Exo-K members along with Hana had just about enough with her. The DJ on the other hand, was panicking and didn’t know how to deal with the situation.

“Uhhh…. How about we get to our song break! Since it’s Exo’s Tenth anniversary this year, we’ll play a song that they’ve had since the very beginning! Here it is~ Exo’s ‘Mama’!”

With that, the song started to play and the show’s head writer quickly barged in with the kid’s teacher and they dragged Mina out of the room. The girl kicked and screamed at why she had to leave when all that she said was true, but they just ignored her and tried to exit as quickly as possible. Chanyeol didn’t have the heart to glare at the small girl or think horrible thoughts about her, but he did have the heart to wonder if her victim was alright.

He looked down at the boy. “You ok, kiddo?”

Lukas looked up at him and slightly smiled. “Yeah, don’t worry. I’m used to it anyway. She usually bullies me whenever chance she has.”

“And you just take it from her?” Sehun frowned, not liking the conversation at all; but Lukas just shrugged.

“It’s not like it actually bothers me. I don’t really care if I have a dad anyway, so I never feel any shame. Plus, if I gave her any actual reaction that said I was hurt, then she would do worse. Don’t you think?”

They all groaned because they knew he was right.

“Do you at lease tell the teacher about the bullying?” Kyungsoo folded his hands together in worry.

“Yeah, but it’s not like it helps any. If they bring her parents in, then they take HER side and start complaining about how their POOR DAUGHTER has to deal with a, and I quote, ‘freak-child’ every day in class, and that I should be taken out of it and go back to ‘Where I came from’.”

“Does your Eomma know what’s going on?” Chanyeol finally spoke up.

“My teacher know’s how easily Eomma worries, so she helped me to keep it a secret from her…” He sighed at looked down. “That is, until today…”

Chanyeol smiled slightly and placed his hand on the kid’s shoulder, making him look back up.

“Hey, things might turn out better later on after today.”

Suho gasped after he said that. “That’s right! Maybe because of this broadcast, her parents might move her to another school!”

Everyone seemed to brighten up at that thought, even Hana, who hasn’t said a thing at all, seemed to relaxed because of it. Lukas still had doubt on his face, but Chanyeol could see a hint of hope in his blue eyes.

When the song ended the DJ started speaking again and apologized to the listeners about the… problem that had occurred earlier. He then announced that Exo, along with Hana and Lukas, were going to play a game of charades. Jongin and Kyungsoo were to be on Hana’s team while Chanyeol and Sehun would be on Lukas’s team. Suho’s job was to hold up the answers that the players had to get Hana and Lukas to guess correctly on.

After many laughs and awkward poses, Hana’s team ended up winning by two points because Sehun took too long to try and figure out how to pretend to be a Hippo. Hana’s prizes were free tickets to go see Exo’s upcoming concert tour along with backstage passes to see Kyungsoo and Jongin again because they helped her win. With that, the show ended and everyone started getting ready to leave.

“Hey, sorry about not winning, kiddo.” Sehun frowned sadly at Lukas. “I promise I tried my best, but I just couldn’t think of an easy way to explain ‘Hippo’.”

Lukas smiled and laughed. “It’s ok, Sehun-Ahjussi. I didn’t really care about winning anyway. I was just focused on having fun.”

“Did you have fun?” Suho asked with a smile.

“Yep! Sure did! And it’s all because Ahjussi-deul!”

They all winced at being called ‘Ahjussi’ but the pure smile on Lukas’s face made it easy to forgive.

“Hey, Seheun-ah?” Sehun got his attention. “Do you mind if I ask if you even know who we are? I’m really curious…”

Lukas blinked. “Nope, I have absolutely no clue who you guys are...”

All the Exo-K members laughed awkwardly as if to say ‘Oh, is that so….’

Lukas tugged on Chanyeol’s shirt to get his attention. “Do you mind if I ask what your group’s name is?”

“Sure, Kiddo.” The giant smiled. “Our group is named Exo.”

“Exo….” Lukas repeated slowly. “Did you guys, buy any chance, debut around 2012?”

They all nodded and Jongin spoke up. “Yeah, why?”

“I actually think that I have heard of you before…” the kid thought to himself for a bit. “That’s right! My Eomma used to listen to you guys when she was in High School!”

“She did?”

Lukas nodded. “Yeah! I mean, she wasn’t in your fan-club or anything, but there IS a whole chapter or two about you in her journal!”

At the last part, his eyes widened and he quickly put his hands over his mouth. Looking behind him to see if it was clear, he quickly added. “Please don’t tell my Eomma that I said that!”

Chanyeol’s head tipped in curiosity while Sehun narrowed his eyes. “Why should we~?”

He looked at his shoes as if he was guilty of something. “Err…. Let’s just say that I kinda get bored sometimes and so… I break into her ‘secret files’ at home when she’s not there…”

They all couldn’t help but laugh at the confession. The poor kid continued on with pleading eyes. “Please, please, PLEASE don’t tell her!”

Chanyeol was laughing so hard that he started to tear up. “Yeah, sure.” He tried to wipe his eyes without hurting his make-up. After a few more fits of laughter they all started heading out of the room with Chanyeol and Lukas trailing behind everyone.

“Can I just ask ONE quick question?” The giant asked as they stepped into the outer hallway.

“Ask away, Ahjussi.”

Ignoring the ‘Ahjussi’ thing again, he went on. “Why is it that you don’t want your Eomma to know that you read her journal? Are you afraid she won’t let you look at it anymore?”

The little kid nodded. “Yeah, I’m afraid that she’ll take it away and probably burn it and pretend that it never existed.”

“Can I ask why it’s really important to you?”

He stopped in his tracks and scanned the large Idol from top to bottom, as if trying to see if he’s worth trusting. Then he sighed sadly.

“Whenever I read it, I get to see the person she was like before my Appa died. Before she put on a mask and told us she was happy. So, if she gets rid of it, then I’ll never be able to see that person again…”

Chanyeol didn’t know what to say. He admired the kid for loving his Mother so much, but was sad for him because he felt he couldn’t help her become truly happy. For a while, they just stood there in silence until the large Idol brought up his hand and rested it on the kid’s head.

“You’re a great son, you know that? I bet your Eomma is proud to have such a son as you.” He grinned as he patted Lukas’s hair. The kid smiled back.

“Thanks, Ahjussi. Oh! One second!”

Lukas quickly dug inside his backpack and took out a small notebook and a pen. “Can you sign this real quick? It’ll give me something to brag about to my Haraboji and friends at school!”

“Yeah! Just make sure to tell them how awesomely nice we are and make sure to tell them that we lost only because of Sehun-ahjussi and not me. Ok?”

Lukas giggled and nodded while the Idol grabbed the notebook and pen and started writing. He made sure that Lukas’s attention was somewhere else before he opened the notebook to a random page and added a message to the kid. Hopefully Lukas would find it before his Mother did.

He gave the notebook and pen back to Lukas, who smiled excitedly.

“Thanks, ahjussi!”

Chanyeol chuckled. “No problem! Do you want me to walk you back to your class?” He had noticed that his teacher had already came and got Hana and some of the station’s workers were running around like it was rush hour. But the kid just shook his head.

“It’s ok. I actually just saw my Eomma turn the corner. I know that if I just stand here, she’ll get to me.”

Chanyeol frowned at the thought of leaving the kid by himself, but the look of confidence that he showed told him that the kid would be alright.

“Ok then. I’ll head off first then. Hopefully we’ll meet again, Seheun-ah.” The giant ruffled the kid’s hair before turning to leave. He never took his eyes off of Lukas even after he started walking way; which was probably a bad idea because he ended up bumping into someone, hard.

This time the collision was worse than when he had bumped into Lukas. When he hit the person, he almost lost his balance this time but, with his long legs, he got it back and turned his head to see a woman about to fall over. Without much thought, he snatched her arm and pulled her up before she hit the ground. The next thing he knows is that she was in his arms and they were both trying to awkwardly figure out what had just happened.

She was the first to move by trying to pry her-self out of his arms. When she did, she jumped back and bowed over and over again.

“I am super duper sorry! I wasn’t looking where I was going!”

For a second, Chanyeol couldn’t move. He just looked at the woman as she stopped bowing and straightened up. She was pretty tall for a girl, around 5’7’’, with light brown, red-tinted hair, and pale skin. She wore just a green t-shirt with dark skinny jeans. He could tell they weren’t of any famous brand, but for some reason, she made it look fashionable.

Unknowingly, his heart started taking her in, and also told his brain to remember her whole; from her non-branded shoes to her baby-face that hid her true age. As he studied her face, he couldn’t help but get mesmerized by her eyes. They were a white and blue color, and he could see natural Kindness flowing through them. If his train of thought was more on its track, then he would’ve compared them to Lukas’s eyes. But he was way to out of it at the time to notice how similar they were.

“Um, Excuse me? Are you ok?”

Her voice pulled him out of his thoughts and he realized just how long he was staring at her. His face reddened like crazy as he tried to think of what to say.

“Uuhh. Yeah! I’m fine!” He sheepishly grinned, hoping she would too. But she didn’t.

“I’m so sorry for bumping into you. You see, I was looking around and didn’t know where I was going-“

“Oh! It’s Ok!” He held up his hands in assurance. “I was also not looking where I was going. So I have to apologize also. Sorry.”

Chanyeol felt relieved when she smiled back this time. She then bowed again in farewell and he held his breath as she walked passed him to continue what she was doing.

After she passed him, he let go to breathe again and was about to turn around to watch her. He would’ve successfully done so if not for his leader’s voice penetrating his attention.

“Chanyeol-ah, c’mon! We have to hurry or else we’ll be late for the pre-recording!”

He looked straight ahead to find Suho and the other members waiving at him to hurry up. He didn’t answer then and took a second chance to glance over his shoulder; but, to his disappointment, she was already gone.

“Hyung~! Are you coming or not!” Sehun whined.

“Y-yeah! I’m coming right now!” he looked back at s and walked to them. If only he had looked a few seconds earlier. Then he would’ve seen her find Lukas, hug him, and then walk down the hallway on their way back to Lukas’s other classmates.

A/N: Hey guys! so I know it might be a bit confusing with the chapters a bit. but trust me, they need to be like that. ;)   Hopefully, you all might've noticed similarities between the chapters? Hmm...? :) hehe.
