although winter sticks to herself most of the time, nobody can deny the strength in her words through refreshing one-liners. winter values honesty in others and strives to be able to stick to the truth no matter how hard it may be. that is why every word she lets out is often hitting the bullseye and regarded as a "one shot, one kill" as she's able to help mediate situations or provide solutions with her few sentences. it is because she spends more time observing the situation and taking note of the conversation or discussion taking place with her sense of perspective. as much as her sense of sight is enhanced, her judgement is also rather sound and clear. she is able to catch the problems well and makes practical decisions accordingly. it helps her balance her peers who may be prone to make rash decisions as she takes extra looks at the information at hand before deciding.

in addition to her strength in looking at the situation and informations, winter also has this wide imagination that helps her finish tasks or assignments in her own way. she is able to utilize theories or methods in ways that perhaps others may not notice at first or could not think of and it's mostly this imagination of hers that keeps her going. though it may not translate to her artistic touch, she still does have an eye for the aesthetics and pays attention to the use of colors and various methods in regards to her study. she often alters certain study methods for herself in order to keep herself interested in the topic so she doesn't burn out. indeed, winter does credit her mind and imagination for being the trigger that keeps her motivation to improve and study.

anyone who knows winter would know that she's someone who does not share chit-chat. she keeps her words to herself and is rather formal. she still ends up keeping a distance from herself and the world no matter how much she tries to deny it. it's rather because she doesn't know how to deal with the attention drawn to her and prefers to respond in short answers to avoid gaining more attention from others. she knows she's not like others who perhaps can express their every emotion out to the world. she doesn't let out strong expressions or feelings, keeping a rather neutral and even-tempered demeanour. she's trying to improve and close the distance between her and others but it's much more easier said than done. she has to work harder to feel comfortable in this new phase she's bringing upon herself but she has to get used to it. she did come to daeghoul for a reason and currently, with the warmth of those around her that she can call "friends", she's supposed to do just fine.

this is why winter becomes cautious and uncertain of talking about herself in the fear of instigating arguments. winter hates conflicts because it's a part of socializing that she is extremely inexperienced in and due to that uncertainty of something she doesn't have experience in, she goes to an extent to minimalize possible conflicts. if keeping to herself is an option to avoid conflict, she'll take it. she's someone whose actions speak louder than words but even that, certain actions carry different meaning to different people. she always seems to second guess herself when it comes to matters of social interaction rather than when it comes to matters that can be measured through information or data. she's unsure if what she says to others or does is the correct action to the reaction and it makes her restless. she's scared of others turning their backs on her, causing her to regret the decision to come outside of the griffin's secluded habitat.

 

BACKGROUND 
the legend of the griffin started in the middle ages in europe, when griffins were perceived as the coat of arms in genoa, italy. of course, this does not apply to snow griffins, the species of creature winter seo is a part of. snow griffins are more secluded, their natural habitat of the snow and cold providing a perceived “safe distance” from the rest of the world. ordinary griffins put themselves out there while snow griffins all around the world find comfort in residing inside their own world. it makes it understandable that there are no recognizable records of snow griffins, just records of griffins throughout history and this makes the origins and attributes of the specific species unknown to most.

some griffins in general choose to migrate from european soils to other continents and snow griffins are griffins who retreat to colder temperatures and stay, opting to adapt and choose such a habitat to protect themselves from being extinct. it is believed that this choice causes snow griffins to have an aloof air to them and quiet demeanour.

winter seo’s origins can be assumed to be the same. she is an offspring of grifins who choose to migrate and retreat to the cold, specifically in pyeong-chang of south korea that has been known for being the country’s coldest city. winter was born in the 13th century, specifically in the year 1338 after her parents and their relatives have settled into their new habitat in pyeong-chang. it is due to the attributes of the snow griffin that her father was able to go up the ranks within pyeong-chang’s military hierarchy. to his normie military higher-ups and subordinates, he was highly feared and respected for his endurance in the cold weather. he was known for being the “king” of close combat fights held out in the snow, a record that has yet to be broken. that was how he could secure the position of military general and for the 2018 winter olympics held in pyeong-chang, he was the one in charge who coordinated the security and military forces.

due to her father and relatives who are also part of the military, winter’s family lives comfortably with an unimaginable fortune and it is known that her family would spend the summer break in places with colder temperatures. they would often go to various cities in europe to pay visits to their distant relatives or the resting places of their ancestors as well as for a holiday. though there is no rule within the griffins regarding numbers of children, winter ended up being the only child, the only daughter to her military general father and household wife mother.

winter grew up receiving much love from her parents and relatives alike but it started to become clear for her that the protective and secluded environment she lived in that stemmed from being a snow griffin caused her to become awkward and unaccustomed to loud, crowded social situations that occured to her during her time attending school with normie children. she knew it was reasonable that her parents wanted her to stay as safe as possible growing up by limiting her interactions with normies outside of school hours but times have changed and deep down within her, winter also wanted to try and grow into society.

her parents couldn’t go against her on that matter as they knew better than to shape her into an anti-social. that was why they sent her to daeghoul fright, the school that their family have helped fund in their early years where she could try and grow into a society with monsters or creatures of all sorts. winter could learn more about the world of monsters and creatures at a school that is solely built for that matter, more than the short classes or sessions her parents gave her growing up that stemmed for a lack of education institution like daeghoul fright in their time. she could finally put all those years of self-education, limited interactions, tutoring by her mother, and social awkwardness behind to try and fit in with other monsters or creatures.

 

CREATURE snow griffin

 

ATTRIBUTES 

✽ has the paw claws visible even when she's not shapeshifting and just as normies pay extra attention to their nails, winter does so for her claws and makes sure to keep them at a length that doesn't cause her to accidentally scratch herself.
✽ born with the attribute of super strength but is still required to train her body and mind to further enhance and get into tune with the attributes so that she can utilize them to their maximum capacity.
✽ also has enhanced sense of sight that comes within her species so that they can still have clear vision of their surroundings even through heavy snow or heavy rain. it is more used when she's in griffin form as she'll also have the ability of flight but when in human form, well, at least, she'll never have to wear glasses all her lifetime.
✽ from her species' origins in europe where it is anually cold to her birthplace that is the coldest city in south korea, she's always been built to be able to withstand and endure in cold temperatures but when in human form, there are still possibilities of her catching hypothermia. it's not applicable when in griffin form.

✽ griffins mate for life so she'd be stuck with her future spouse for life or until death separates them after which she'll live alone. it's quite intimidating and rather burdensome for her as she does feel the pressure.

 

ABILITIES

✽ SHAPESHIFTING self explanatory in that she can shape shift into a snow griffin. this ability is easier to maintain in the colder seasons or weathers because of the temperature as if she tries to use the ability in hot or moist weather or temperature, she may not last as long as she does during colder times because of the heat easily draining out her concentration and abilities.
✽ FLIGHT self explanatory and the ability is only accesible when in griffin form. she's able to fly for many hours and an admirable distance. the last time she tried flying within the country, she was able to easily fly with her family to jeju island and seoul which are nearly three hours. the winter she turned sixteen, she managed to follow her family to rome which is roughly fifteen hours. when her species fly, they fly at a height that cannot be seen by normies so they won't be easily spotted.
✽ ICE MANIPULATION the powers and abilities that come within her species aren't always the same between individuals but they all have one thing in common and that is that all are ice-based. for instance, her father can manipulate the cold while her mother can manipulate snow. it is extremely rare for an individual within her species to not have any additional powers or abilities. in terms of her ice manipulation, she can create, shape, and control ice as she pleases and is able to reduce the kinetic energy of atoms to make objects colder. she can freeze water into a solid form and is able to utilize ice for long-range and short-range combat.

 

SIDE EFFECTS

THE GOOD the attributes bestowed upon her help with every day life as she can really be gifted in certain sports due to her super strength. also, she does like how she can really go and say, "the cold never bothered me anyway" without hesitation. she never knew that not needing to wear glasses to see better for the rest of her life was a good thing but it's a good feeling. 
THE BAD having endurance towards cold temperatures causes her to really suffer in hot and moist weathers both in south korea and in other countries even more than others because of the difference in temperature. it also limits her powers. because she's so strong in cold temperatures, it causes her to yearn for cold beverages all the time and well, she forgets that her endurance doesn't make her body and metabolism immune from sore throats or even the common cold.

the incident of 2019 

REACTION  winter grew fond of lian so, when the incident of 2019 happened, mad and shocked was definitely an understatement for her. it was bad timing that winter was not even in the country at the time as she went with her family to spend the summer in prague, czech republic that's eight hours behind daeghoul. she couldn't contain her shock and anger, almost creating cold wind or heavy snow fall all over prague. the mu lian that she knew, out of all people they could target?

RESPONSE she never knew that she wanted to have teleportation until that moment. she still several days in prague and she was restless to say the least. her father and mother had to take her retail shopping and sightseeing to steady her mood down which she has to admit did work. winter still felt uneasy, especially when she found that the case was ruled a suicide so she asked her father to make sure he gets all the information about the case. being the biggest fool for his daughter, her father couldn't say no to her.

THE AFTERMATH the week they returned to the country, her father wanted to make her proud and pulled some calls to gain some information on the case. her father suspects a police cover-up or a secret payment from all the information he gained and he promises to tell winter all the upcoming information he may hear from word of mouth within his area. winter remembers the day she cried rivers when she saw him on the first day he attended daeghoul as a spirit.

 

she is still close to lian even now, actually more than she was before but it still saddens her to see him as he is but she tried to find peace that it was better than him not returning to daeghoul fright ever again. deep down, winter also found it disgusting that normies would do that to other normies and just when she started to believe in the kindness within normies, the incident happened so she has to stop hoping that she'll see the good in normies any time soon.

first meeting 

winter has gotten used to hearing haena going on and on about hwon's antics and her honest thoughts about him, much of which is her pointing out his vices. that was why winter had gotten used to haena warning her about this yi hwon as haena told her, "winter, i've known for too many years for me to recommend befriending him. he's a good friend but gosh, he's such a turn-off in a lot of places." of course, winter understood the context behind haena's warnings. she wondered if it had anything to do with whispers regarding hwon's long life but winter judged that it was mostly haena's concern towards her as a eonni rather than that. haena knew hwon longer than any other creature has or would have so winter knew that haena's words had weight to them. haena didn't want them to be too involved with each other. that's all.

the two exchanged their first greetings one day a little over a year ago, quite forcefully in fact. winter and haena were chatting to each other while trying to finish some homework in advance when hwon passed by, in glee after he started to read a new book that day. it was his good mood at the time that caused him to approach haena who seemed like she was having a fun conversation. on days when he's in a good mood, he'd want to pick on her even more. he decided to pass by and sit next to haena. that's when he realized winter was sitting across her. she seems so innocent, so cute, so clean. hwon and haena broke into an exchange of quips and for a moment, he forgot winter was there so he asked haena who seemed to annoyed, "you're not going to introduce me to her, hannah wang?"

 

haena slapped the back of his head and firmly said, "no, because we wouldn't want little winter to hang out with the likes of your foxy ." winter, huh? what a nice name, it suits her well. hwon rolled his eyes and stood up from his seat before sticking his tongue out to haena who responded with her little finger.

after that occurance, hwon always seems to appear in front of winter at moments where haena is not around as the older girl seems to be busy juggling her extracurriculars. of course, on hwon's side, it was all deliberate so that his longtime friend wouldn't be there to pick on him and his antics. it's always when winter's moving from class to class or to the student disembody council or to the library during times where haena's preoccupied. of course, winter didn't care much about it and as her usual self, she replies his quips in short answers. she's reluctant to share longer exchanges with him, remembering haena's remarks about him. 

 

so, she just brushes him off like nothing. however, winter would've never thought that in all this, hwon is persistent. i just want to keep her company, for some reason. he'll continue popping up or bumping into her to see if she budges. she'd budge eventually, right?

a question everyone would be curious to ask at this point: so, did she budge? the answer is eventually, yes. hwon thinks of this as a challenge or a game since haena warned winter not to keep him around. there was also the fact that she didn't seem like the other girls due to her lack of response or neutral expression. she doesn't give him anything to joke around with and it leaves him curious and rather competitive. though he seems serious, he's still approaching her very lightly. as he continues going forward with her, he finds that she sometimes shows no response at all so in return, he'd show glimpses of his true self to her since he thought she wouldn't care. he'd vent or complain or bitterly joke around but then again, try to witfully cover it up by saying, "ohora, did you think i was serious?".

they started to bond after the "scarf" incident where hwon asks winter to knit him a scarf for his upcoming birthday as he grew naseous when haena started to brag about the scarf winter knitted her. he tried to persuade her by saying, "ohora, this oppa will feel very sad if you don't" to which she replied "it's not really my problem if you get sad or not, though" without blinking. hwon's last attempt to persuade her was saying "not even if it means i'd treat you to a meal in town?" which deep down, did make winter reconsider but winter ignored him and went to brainball practice. of course, she ended up knitting him a scarf matching his amber eyes after hearing from kaito and haena that he felt petty for getting worked up about a scarf for a few days so she thought about it and saw no harm in gifting one for his birthday and due to that, hwon felt like the world was entirely his. he got a scarf from winter.

 

at this point, winter seemed to get used of his sudden appearances and despite perhaps wearing her earphones or texting others, she may have been eavesdropping at rare happenings of hwon's softened demeanour but of course, she couldn't let that show in front of him. she realized that he was doing it on purpose so she softened up as well and slowly but surely, she started to reply in longer and personal sentences. it's perhaps because hwon has slowly permeated through her icy walls and boundaries.

winter has given him the benefit of doubt as she would sometimes come across him reading a book with a contemplating expression or being dead serious while in archery practice. it's due to the fact that she started to think otherwise about him as he doesn't seem to act like the person others paint him out to be this "the evil fox spirit being that killed hundreds". it seemed like something he had been hiding; his sincerity and perhaps it was these small things winter noticed about hwon. they started to hang out more after finally exchanging phone numbers to which winter finally got treated to that meal around town by hwon.

 

despite lacking emotional expression, winter understands her feelings and moods well and slowly, she realized that she felt these feeling of comfortability, excitement, attraction and giddiness around hwon. others around them would've already noticed that they've bonded and seemed closer than they labelled themselves. even, haena who has ended up supporting them despite initially going against their relationship and verbally announced that she will launch her claws at hwon if he lays a hair on winter. despite knowing that hwon seems to be interested in her, winter still needs confirmation from him since he seems to be in denial or avoiding talks about it and it happened during their so-called "date" at the archery field one day.

 

they had the talk after winter just blurted it out for him, "so, do you like me? i'm just curious, that's all". hwon told her, "i don't know if i have the same level of loyalty as you... you'd mate for life and i don't want you to be rash in the case it's not me." winter understood why he said that, considering what he's experienced in his long life in the form of betrayal and scars. she provoked him, "prove it." he pointed an arrow at her and at that moment, winter knew. hwon, too. he couldn't shoot. he has a soft spot, after all, for his "people" and things he cherished so even without saying a word, hwon lowered the bow. he met winter's soft smile and ice blue eyes. he walked towards her and with his height, pulled in her for a hug as he caressed her hair.

winter likes him for all the things he never thought was appealing to others; his scars, the cynical quips, the jokester in him and even the sageuk tone that comes up in his speech every now and then. it depicted a past that winter never went through during her childhood. he knew things she didn't and carried around a sensitivity he had to mask, only unvealing himself to a chosen few. he reminded her of herself, just a different version and in that, she learned how to take care of herself and realizes things that shape who she is as a person.

 

there's something about his embraces, the caring tone whenever he's around her and the extent he'd go to take care of her that makes her just feel loved. quoting what she said to her roommate dahae as a joke, "it makes me feel like the female lead that's being taken care of by the second lead" and in all honesty, that'd be true. he's a friend, a lover and a mentor in a sense and it was enough for her because as said by her mother, "find someone that's like your best friend".

 

winter can be seen texting him or walking along the hallways with hwon by her side. she always seems to carry around one of his most cherished books and be seen having a meal with her before or after brainball practice. it's either that or hwon would be seen watching her during brainball practice, stealing glances of her as he'd be immersed in reading a book to pretend as if she's not the one he came to watch. winter also does something similar whenever she's free during his archery practice, pretending as if she's doing her classwork on her laptop or tablet. everyone always quips in, "ugh, i am so jealous".

 

status currently both have feelings for each other but none of them want to make the move first.

✽ despite not showing it, hwon is very scared if winter gets mad because he knows she's quite skilled in swordsmanship and guns or riffles

✽ with that said, hwon thinks she's quite cool and hot at the same time whenever she shows off her athletic skills
