a visual, that is for sure. geumwoo has natural good looks with big cat like eyes and pouty pink lips. his skin is pretty pale, almost milky like which make his dark eyes pop out even more.
geumwoo is pretty skinny with his small waist and thin wrists, his bmi only just a bit underweight. he doesn't gain muscle very well and he's not very atheletic either. if his shirt ever rides up, it will show prominent hipbones and a smooth stomach.

geumwoo is highly intelligent in a sense of book smarts, due to his excessive studies as a child and throughout high school. his brain can calculate big numbers and he understands how words work and the like, his brain holding immense amounts of knowledge. going along with his way with words, geumwoo is also very eloquent. his upbringing had him learning til it became natural, speaking in a rather persuasive and powerful tone that can easily move people. and deep down, he's just as passionate as the other members. he pushes himself, ignoring if he's uncomfortable or scared, just to learn more whether it learning new knowledge, new singing techniques, or even to dance just a tiny bit better. geumwoo is also very hardworking. he puts his all into his passions and will continue to work until it's done, but sometimes that can be his downfall...
even before his homeschooling thanks to his parents, geumwoo has always been a rather quiet child from the getgo. he keeps to himself, barely feeling the need to scream or yell and usually only speaking when spoken to. and being quiet and keeping to himself, geumwoo has become a rather observant person. along with his intelligence, his observing can be a rather deadly thing, as he's perceptive of the things he observes and such. due to his background and how much it was drilled into his brain, he is seen as solemn and he certainly acts like it most of the time. formal and dignified, he's poised and seems like a very respectful person. normally seen in a positive light, it can be a bit of a negative especially when he's seen in a more free environment meant for people to unwine and he's still there, looking slightly stiff.
one might think at first glance, but geumwoo hides a major insecurity inside of him. it eats away at him from the inside, staying with him wherever he goes. the insecurity grew, due to barely having a parent's love or praise for the good he does, and know he barely believes he's truly good. which plays along with his perfectionist ways. he doesn't know when to stop, to be perfect in hopes to get the praise he's always wanted in life. working and working, geumwoo won't stop til it's perfect even when he's out a breath and no stamina. and that can be seen as stubborn and that's right. geumwoo can be as stubborn as a mule, almost bratty in his own views and theway he does things. stubborn in the way that even if someone would volunteer to help, he would most likely ignore and refuse help. geumwoo seems like a lot of things, but tying in with his insecurity, he's sensitive. always been sensitive, even as a child. he's good at keeping a face, a mask of indifferent, but even jokeful words can pierce his heart. littlest things can push him down a downward spiral of depression, making his emotions go wild.
BACKGROUND
geumwoo grew up in a rather strict childhood. both of his parents were business people and wanted him to do the same thing. from a young age, he was groomed to take over his parents business, some prestigious phone tech company, it was totally something even young geumwoo and older geumwoo considered extremely boring. but it was something his parents were adamant on him doing.
as he grew up, his parents just got stricter with his upbringing. his daily routine was studying, studying, studying. and that's what he did because what else could he do? because of his strict upbringing, he was always alone with no one to call a true friend.
but there was always one thing that brought a smile to his face. he always had the radio on when he studied. the music...he always found himself singing along to the songs playing on his radio. and whenever he would see the videos and posters of idols all around the city, he knew what his heart truly yearned for.
though, he kept his wishes to himself. he knew he had no courage to tell his parents that he wanted to pursue singing than their family business.
before he knew it, he was pretty much shipped off to paris, france with his father at the age of fifteen. his father went there for business stuff and brought geumwoo along to learn new things (as it would look good for him when he took over the business). geumwoo originally thought he would be spending time with his father, but he was just as alone as he was back at home.
and geumwoo used that to his advantage. a choir teacher from the school he transferred to overheard him singing while he was studying after school and immediately went to compliment him on his sweet vocals. geumwoo was shocked that someone would compliment him like that. and it was that day when geumwoo experienced happiness. the teacher decided to give him lessons after school whenever he had the time.
geumwoo explained to his father that he was doing extra credit after school and he ate it up. and it wasn't like geumwoo was shirking on his studies, he was proud of his brain and being able to keep up with it. so here was geumwoo, studying like his parents wanted, but also sneaking after school to learn how to sing better.
as he graduated (top honors after all), geumwoo gathered the courage to tell his father of his heart desires with his teacher right behind him for support, but his father...he didn't want to hear any of it. he blamed himself for raising a child with frivolous desires and the teacher for driving him away from his studies.
when father and son returned to korea, geumwoo's home became his prison. his parents scolded him for thinking that anything good could come from singing and ed him into studying for college.
but geumwoo could no longer do what his parents wanted. he wanted to sing and this time, they weren't going to stop him, so he began to plan.
as he entered college, geumwoo continued to plan. he became close with another college student in one of his classes who geumwoo told him of his family life and his desire to run away. his friend offered to give him a place to live, not wanting his new friend to live in such a dark place.
and that's how geumwoo was rejected from his family, but he was happy. cause he was finally free.

↳ when he first moved to france, geumwoo gained quite a bit of weight. he became a target for bullying, especially when he came back to korea.

↳ due to his small stature, geumwoo is definitely known for his long skinny legs and waist. though now, he's actually quite self-concious of them because he feels like he's too skinny and it embarrasses him that he wears the smallest size in males clothing a lot.

↳ LEE KYUNGHOON & MINHEE father and mother dearest...geumwoo does not have the greatest relationship with them. probably because he wanted to be singer instead of wanting to take over the company. or maybe because he ran away from home. either way, geumwoo does not like to be reminded of them, like, at all. he never talks about them either. will usually refer to them as 'the people who housed me' rather than parents, or father and mother.
he has not contacted his parents whatsoever since dropping out of college. it's been a couple of years and the days keep counting...
↳ LEE SUNGWON geumwoo's best friend, essentially his first real friend. sungwon was the person who was able to get through geumwoo's icy exterior, make the icy prince smile and treated him like a normal person for once. geumwoo got used to sungwon's loudness and his touchy-feely tendencies and now he can't imagine life without his presence.
sungwon's a really great friend and was there for geumwoo has he practiced his singing, attempting to give him feedback (but sungwon was biased, so it really wasn't much help).

↳ MADAME KANG the bane of geumwoo's existence, but also the one who put him into the program and the one who's in charge of his future in paradox, he becomes an entire different person when she's around. while he may show smiles and become confident with the members, but once madame kang is near, he becomes tightlipped and knees shake. and she's harsh on him, harsh on everyone, but even harsher on him and along with the other weaker links. he can't help, but quiver under her calculating stare, barely holding in tears at her scatching words.
and he knows that his secret only holds up so much, knows that if she truly looked into his white lie, he'd be gone in a heartbeat.
↳ HYOYEON & HEECHUL hyoyeon is someone that even though he knows she's a genuine person, it's the fact that she's a main dancer that scares him the most. it's not a secret that geumwoo isn't a good dancer and 7 times out of 10, it's usually him that makes the group have to do another run through once more. hyoyeon is strict and geumwoo knows that she has to, but he can't help, but feel extra pressure with her. she does end up helping him when it comes to a rather hard move once in a while, but he ends up practicing alone, knowing he can do it without help.
heechul on the other hand...that sunbae just scares him. not in the same way as madame kang or hyoyeon, no. more on the lines of...his sass and joking ways ruffle his feathers and contradicts his formal upbringing. he can only handle so many jokesters in his presence (paradox barely makes it) and it makes him short circuit and exhausted.
↳ GJSN one of the first things geumwoo was told about upon entering sm ent was about the hidden girl trainees of the sljk program. though he wasn't one of those people who wanted to know more, but he naturally met them as he was added to the boy equivalent project. he spoken a few words to the pretty girls of gjsn, but he wouldn't consider himself close to any of them just yet.
though friends, members, and fans alike tend to compare him to gjsn's ai for their quiet nature and the like. they also find it funny that ai is actually taller than him.
↳ PARADOX a group of boys geumwoo has only known for about a year before debut and he holds them dear to his heart. sure, at first, he didn't want to get close to them. he had sungwon as his only friend, he didn't need anymore...but they all got passed his cold exterior, just like sungwon, and now he will fight and do anything for these boys.
he's a lot more closer with the vocal unit than that of the other units because, well duh, they are all the vocalists and he has told them more things then the others.
with that said, he has not told anybody about his past and or much about his relationship with sungwon. they just know that he was a friend from college and that he practically considers a brother (for now). thankfully, the members have not tried to forced geumwoo to tell them the truth and will wait until he's ready.
↳ SAM & KOJI definitel a duo that geumwoo does not like to left alone with. their stupidity together causes him headaches to no end. cause geumwoo enjoys his peace and quiet and not the chaos of the two known as sam & koji.

TRAINING

it was around 2016 when geumwoo ran from his parents and dropped out of college to pursue singing. he had his friend sungwon to help with housing, letting him stay with him in his tiny apartment. his only requirement was to help with the rent in which geumwoo got a job to do so.
though geumwoo was not ready for auditioning anytime soon. since he didn't really have professional training, he felt like he would be laughed at.
though when early 2017 rolled around, geumwoo had gotten scouted by a scouting agent from sm entertainment and it was sungwon that told him to go for it, that would definitely ace that audition. it was the moment geumwoo had been waiting for. geumwoo knew his friend was right and so he took the chance, but in the end...geumwoo chickened out. he felt like he wasn't ready yet. sungwon was the one to drive him to the audition and then drive him back to their apartment at his friend's request. it was an emotional time.
geumwoo would read sm news articles with jealous, but ashamed eyes. he could of been a trainee or debut already, but he chickened out. he hated himself for so long. he couldn't even get himself to listen to sm artists, his jealousy making him a different person.

he was only a trainee for a few months before being ed into the sljk program and, boy, did geumwoo have a hard time keeping up with the rest of the boys of the program. as someone with no previous professional training, he had to work extra hard to keep up with their level.
in the end, he didn't...or he almost didn't.
he broke his promise the moment his dream was threatened, slipping the names that haunt his past to the mastermind of the program...just to give him a second chance in the group.

PERSONALITY
what kind of person is lee sungwon? he's essentially the whole package. at first glance, the man is polite and kind. he excludes a caring persona that makes people flock to him. and as you get to know him better, those traits just amplify. he's a giant teddy bear, practically a mother hen with the way he smothers the ones he deeply cares for.
a social butterfly with lots of friends, he easily finds ways to take care of everyone he knows with no problem. his gentle words and warm smiles instantly make people swoon for him.
but sungwon has some darkness to his sunny exterior. he's actually extremely selfish...selfish in a way that he wants to make everyone happy. he will sacrifice his own happiness to make sure it happens. he's quite stubborn in the way he won't let others see his weaknesses. he's so adamant on covering it up with smiles and caring words until his own emotions bubble up.

pretty cliche in a way. when geumwoo started college, he was in a rather dark place and had garnered a bit of a name for himself as the snappy, gloomy kid. no one dared to approach him, well, except for one student.
sungwon didn't believe someone could be so closed off for no reason and he was determined to make a new friend. geumwoo thought he was obnoxious, his mind already writing him off as another annoying person like everyone else.
but sungwon proved to be different. he continued to bother geumwoo; talking to him, including him in conversations, etc. it bothered geumwoo to no end, but...soon enough sungwon managed to make a crack in geumwoo's wall. when geumwoo started to reply to his conversations, sungwon knew he got to him.
and soon enough, the two of them hit it off. sungwon got to know the true geumwoo, sensitive, but passionate. geumwoo began to trust sungwon with things, letting some of his past slip from his lips. as caring as sungwon was, he became worried, especially when geumwoo came to school with dark bags under his eyes. and then geumwoo finally told sungwon everything and the reaction was immediate. sungwon wanted geumwoo out of that house immediately.
geumwoo dropped out of college, family disowning him, but it was okay. geumwoo has sungwon who was kind enough to take him in.
sungwon was extremely supportive of geumwoo's dream to sing. he had always caught the small male singing here and there and he knew that he would have a future in singing. and with sungwon's caring nature, he always tries to help geumwoo out (though geumwoo soon found out that sungwon was quite biased), but the man tried his best.
it was when geumwoo chickened out at his first sm audition when the feelings crept up on geumwoo like a wild fire. sungwon didn't ask any questions when geumwoo returned to the vehicle, demanding to go back home to their apartment. he said no word as he set up a bath for male. he still said nothing when sat on the bed, arms open for geumwoo. he consoled him throughout the night until geumwoo fell asleep, whispering comforting words.
every since that night, geumwoo sees sungwon as someone he wants to get closer with. every time he sees a couple holding hands, he imagines him and sungwon doing just that.
crushing on sungwon is hard though, as the man can be quite dense and oblivious to things especially in this sense. and so geumwoo keeps his feelings secret, not wanting to ruin his and sungwon's friendship.
though geumwoo may not be the only one with feelings...sungwon just needs a kick in the right direction.
