Personality. 

Ai is known to be somewhat outspoken. She is rather bold when it comes to stating her thoughts or feelings, especially to those she knows. She is friendly and rather likeable, especially to new people she meets. She has a way of making everyone feel welcomed. Ai is very creative and original, which she has found rather useful when it comes to her dancing. She’s very adaptable and can adapt to most situations rather fast. 

Ai isn’t someone who takes criticism well. She tends to take things to personally even when they weren’t meant to hurt her or offend her. It's something she really wishes she was able to change and it's something shes trying her best to improve on. If she is made to do something repeatedly, she gets easily bored and unfocused. She has a great dislike of conflict and will often help other peoeple (namely the members) to resolve matters quickly.

Background.

Zheng Ai was born on January 6th, 1995 to a Korean mother and Chinese father in Andong, South Korea. At the time of her birth, her father (who moved to Korea when he was a teenager) was nineteen and her mother was eighteen. Even though Ai’s parents were young, they decided before she was born that they would keep Ai and make it work some way or another. With little to no support, the first years of Ai’s life were hard on her mother and father, but they managed to pull through. When Ai was two, her mother and father finally were able to marry, making them a proper family. A few years later when Ai was five in 2000, Ai’s twin sisters (Meili and Meiqi) were born, but sadly a day that would have been happy in all other cases quickly turned into that of a nightmare. After the birth of her twin sisters, Ai’s mother went into shock and died as a result of complications from the birth. Ai doesn’t remember much from that time and because of how old she was, she never really understood it until she was older. But the one thing she’ll never forget was her father, normally cheerful man, clearly broken.

As Ai got older, she became much closer with her father and sisters. Raising three girls was not easy on Ming’s (Ai’s fathers) part, especially three outspoken girls, but they somehow made it work. With the help of friends Ming was able to raise three beautiful and strong willed girls. When Ai became a teenager, her father decided to make the short move into Seoul with his daughters, thinking that there would be more opportunities for them and himself in the large city. It was around this time that Ai was finally old enough to start helping out when her then toddler sisters. The two were a handful, but Ai and her father managed to make it work. Ai just really wanted to do anything she could so that she would never have to see her father the way she did that horrible day, so she didn’t mind at all.

When Ai was about fifteen, she joined the dance club at her school after one of her friends requested she join with them. Though reluctant at first, Ai quickly feel in love with dance. Ai had danced throughout her childhood but stopped when she entered middle school, so she wasn’t sure if she would enjoy it anymore, but, lo and behold, It wasn’t long until she was spending every free moment she had dancing with her friends or even sisters. Ai and her friends formed a small dance team within the club that would perform dance covers of idol songs at talent shows and events held by their school. Ai quickly became fascinated with the idea of idols and the possibility of becoming an idol. She thought of it as a way that she could continue to do what she loved (dancing) for as long as possible. After all, her father had always encouraged her to do what she loved. After her seventeenth birthday, Ai began to audition for companies with the blessing of her father and was finally accepted into HB Entertainment a year later, in Febuary 2013.

Trainee Life.
Training for Ai wasn't as easy as she thought it would be. Most of her time was spend in the training room either with trainers, other trinees or whoever was tasked to look over her. She would throw her all into training which often lead to minor injuries that made it difficult for her to dance. When she was selected as a member of HB Girls, she started to push herself and train harder and longer, as she felt that she wasn't quiet ready to become an idol as of yet. No matter how she was feeling on any given day, Ai would give it her all and do her best for not only her, but the other members of Citrus.
