Blogs Now Using Improved Comments

After weeks of testing the new comments widget in stories (and lots of troubleshooting with Opera Mini users), the faster comment features are now available in blogs as well. I haven't received any more reports of comments not showing up for them so I'm going to continue to expand this system to other parts of the site. If comments are not showing up for you, send me a message or else much of the site will slowly become inaccessible to you in the future!

That's a wonderful update. I think it'll make more readers want to comment. Maybe it could look a bit different, so they'd know that someting changed :)
Thank you for the hard work ^^

There's a huge bug, though, for pc users. Just wanted to let you know :)

If you're on a pc and you comment you can't redirectly modify/manage your post. (This is for stories only. It works fine in blog posts.) You literally need to refresh the whole page all over again if you made a mistake you want to fix or if you want to add something more to it.

I love the new implementation of the page no longer refreshing after every reply. It's more convenient that way. Thanks!

I seem to have a problem with some stories' comments not showing up. Like when I go to a story and scroll down, it shows 'No comments yet' and when I scroll/refresh the page, that message disappears. The comments are nowhere to be found and after the Author's Thoughts box, the 'Back to Top' button follows next. It's only evident with some stories though so I'm not sure what's wrong.

Tbh, as an author I'd like for the readers to feel more encouraged somehow on giving their votes to works they appreciate, because I don't understand why they don't vote a story on which they comment "I enjoyed it so much, please update soon!".
Maybe the comment bonuses could be changed into the vote bonuses. Like for example, when you reach giving a total of 100 votes, you earn 10 karmas, or something like that😁
Oh, one more thing, maybe it's just me, but I don't see any use on the blog post's subscribing feature, I never come back to add something to a blog post, if I have something to say, I'd rather make a new blog post.

That's fine but please show the number of comments again T_T Sometimes it affects my decision on leaving a comment or not. But now I have to click "view all comments" to know how many comments there are already. About the bonus, to be honest, as a reader it does encourage me to leave more comments so of course I don't want to let it go, but if writers find it annoying, I'll understand.

Happy weekend!

Oh, so that's why the comments disappeared completely on my phone. I usually turn off javascript to save some mobile data (due to that cursed apester that appears everywhere). The comments do appear a milisecond later than what I'm used to, but I don't believe that will be a problem since they seem to function similar to disqus.

The only issue I've encountered is that the edit button doesn't give you a confirmation, it's stuck on 'save', so I had to reload the page to see if anything happened (I'm not sure how to explain this better, so here's a screenshot - https://i.imgur.com/ayytHoY.png)

Personally, I have not seen an improvement due to comment bonuses. Those that wish to comment will comment anyway. At the same time, kind of sad to see it go. I believe giving the bonus only if the comment meets a certain no. of characters is impossible to code :/

Thank you, as always, for everything!!!

P.S. Unrelated, since it slipped my mind every time, but if someone in my friends list posts a blog post for friends only, it doesn't appear in the list of friends' blog posts, even if I am following everyone's blogs... :/ not sure if a bug or working as intended.

I think it's a great feature improvement regarding commenting without the page reloading! Previously, when I was posting a long comment and the page loaded and it took too long to load and suddenly all went blank and when I refreshed, it turned out the my comment didn't get in. Now that the whole refreshing the page is off, it's a lot more convenient to me and I believe everyone else as well. Thank you so much for that!

For the comment bonus, while it was a great feature when it first began (at least for me), I've been seeing more and more of comments like 'pls update' and 'congrats on the feature'. nowadays I think maybe getting rid of it is for the best, because it's not that much of a difference from before we have it, still getting the same type of comments.

Anyway, thank you a lot for all your hard work, for everything you've done for the site and the community!

I like the idea a lot and think it will definitely benefit in the long run when making any comments without having to wait as it reloads. As for the bonus one, yeah it hasn't done much in quality of feedback. But it definitely brought on the quantity aspects of gaining KP which is most likely spammers wanting points without giving actual feedback. So I can do without the bonus one. Thanks a lot for all of this!!!

Ooo sounds good to me, I'm all for it! Thank you so much for your consistent hard work and continuing to make things easier on us! The comment bonus didn't really help me all too much from what I can tell, and I had a few with it and saw little to no change in comments that I received, so you getting rid of it is cool by me.

Yeah I agree! I am getting more comments, but they’re mostly just “pls update” or “I like this!” Which isn’t really far off from what I got before. It feels like comment bonuses are just another incentive that are abused lol.

I do like how the page no longer refreshes!! That always bothered me lol

I do agree that in the initial stages the comment bonus feature was helping authors like me get more comments, as it encouraged the readers to leave more comments. I have a handful of fics with the comment bonus feature still but over time, I haven't seen any benefit from it. Spam and obvious karma farming comments were obvious as daylight. I even had people commenting that they were solely doing it for the comment bonus and it's no big deal but it did felt like a blow to my face because I don't get comments very often, and when I do, it is that.
I even made a blog post addressing this and while searching through other stories with comment bonus feature like mine, I also see the influx of comment spam on their fics so I know it's not just me facing this spam issue.

Therefore, I am all for the comment bonus feature thing to be rid of. It is not helping me but if it does help most of the authors with the feature on their fics, then, by all means, keep it.
