✽ german ︰ native tongue. as maeve grew up in germany and only comes back to korea for holidays, it is only natural that german is her first language.

BACKGROUND

born to an upper middle class family, maeve hyun was raised by her older brother, kai euncheol hyun, who is 7 years older than her. with busy parents, maeve and kai rarely saw them and spent most of their time together— which explains why she's much closer to him than their parents. 

maeve was exposed early to dancing thanks to her brother who was a member of his school's dance troupe. she'd see his brother practice their dances and kai would teach her the steps. he also brought her to after school dance practices when the babysitter isn't available. kai is a big factor to maeve's dreams of becoming a dancer and they always enjoyed dancing together.

when maeve was in her last year of middle school, her dance video that she posted in youtube went viral and was the start of korean entertainment recruiting the young talent. maeve did not really understand any of it but thanks to mingyu, her childhood friend from korea, she was familiar of korean pop. and within the piles of e-mails she got, she saw a familiar name, pledis entertainment.  

kai was a great help to maeve's chosen career. when their parents did not approve of maeve living back in korea to become an idol trainee, kai backed her up and told their parents to just let her do whatever she wants; and when things won't work, she can always go back in germany and help him with the dance school he built. jaekyum and yejin did not have any further opinions because of the gratitude they have for their oldest child and for raising maeve.

HABITS

✽ cursing in german when frustrated, stressed, or mad. the members were scared of it at first and cannot understand it. but over time, they know what it means and sometimes imitate her.
✽ analyzing members when practicing, monitoring, and learning a new choreography, analyzing the team became a habit for her. she always do this unconsciously and tries to communicate the concerns she has. it is also a thing that she did since training days.
✽ e-cigarette maeve discovers this habit of hers late in the career when she'd be in a hiatus because of her injury. because of the stress, she starts smoking and had to keep it from the management and even mingyu. when she got caught, she minimized the use and only uses it to destress.

FEARS

✽ getting injured it is one of maeve's greatest fear because for her, a simple injury can get worse and she's scared to be not able to perform anymore. 
✽ losing passion maeve has been dancing most of her life and losing passion sets maeve to anxiousness, and fears that she might lose herself if that happens one day.

✽ choreography because of her experience, maeve has been creating choreographies of her own even before debuting. creating a choreo became kind of easy for her and can make one in 30 minutes when she's very inspired.
✽ pen spinning when they were rookies, maeve was trying to explore talents that they can showcase in variety shows and she discovered her new talent unexpectedly with pen spinning. after that, she's been showing this a lot and became a habit.

TRAINEE YEARS started training in pledis at 2014 for 4 years, 2 years prior to 16tv.

 　✽ maeve started out as one of the early trainees for sixteen. her extraordinary dancing, singing, and rapping abilities immediately defined her, gaining her a reputable standing among the staff and other trainees. later trainees were impressed by her talent and held her in a high regard. her remarkable versatility won over mentors and coaches. her precise and strong dancing skills, soulful voice, and captivating rap lines left a lasting impression.

FIRST MEETING the first time maeve saw hoshi was when they were trainees and the boys are still filming 17tv. what caught her attention was hoshi's dance style and his moves. and since that, she's been admiring him from afar. 

maeve and hoshi's first official meeting was during the mentorship. it was awkward but hoshi, despite being shy too, made sure that his student will be comfortable and inititated the interaction. 

INTERACTIONS because maeve respects hoshi a lot and holds him at a pedestal, their relationship is awkward. although during the mentorship, it's as if they've known each other for a long time because of their dynamic. maeve surpasses hoshi's expectations of her and gets shy every time he praises her. their dynamic is like an idol-fan because of how maeve views hoshi. although the mentor always say that she should act more comfortable around him because maeve is technically his senior when it comes to dancing. after some time, maeve became more comfortable with hoshi and even calls him 'oppa'.

PERSONALITY to maeve, mingyu did not differ a lot from his childhood, except for his rebellious phase. mingyu has always been cheerful and patient with people that surrounded him. he always brought this positive energy that draws people easily, that made maeve remind him of a golden retriever.

but his clumsiness always gets him. he always break something and is not good at handling things. mingyu is kind to the point that he's the members' target for teasing. mingyu also has the tendency to be over-jealous but once maeve reassures him, he gets back to his confident self.

HISTORY maeve and mingyu are childhood friends where they first met when she was six years old. it was her first visit to her grandparents for chuseok— and her first time seeing korea. mingyu's parents are somewhat caretakers of choeun's grandparents and are very close to the old couple while mingyu was the elderly's favorite around their neighborhood. her first impression of him was he was this snotty kid that had holes in his shirt and constantly bugged her grandparents. maeve did not like mingyu back then, not until he showed her the beauty of the province life. 

maeve's travels to korea increased throughout the years, and her friendship with mingyu grew stronger, and even though they were apart for a year, their relationship remained close because they looked forward to seeing one other and the amount of letters containing their care for each other also grew in time. maeve loved every bit of it and waited patiently until autumn time, where she'd meet mingyu again. not until she was greeted by mingyu on the 13th autumn of her life.

"choeun-ah, you'll see me on bigger screens one day!" maeve was confused with mingyu's words. what does he mean?

"what?" she frowned and crossed her arms.

"i'm going to be a trainee to be an idol! i got accepted into pledis! i will be training in seoul, that is the capital..." the only thing that maeve understood was she won't be able to see him yearly, the only time of the year that she's waiting for.

but who is she to hinder her best friend's happiness?

maeve went back to germany downhearted but mingyu never let his best friend down and made sure to write her letters every time he can. and like the universe was on maeve's side, few months after mingyu's news, her dance video that was posted by her dance company blew up, and several korean entertainment companies contacted her; inviting her to audition and become a trainee. through the pile of e-mails, she saw one that she set her heart on.

maeve getting into pledis was also the start of mingyu's feelings for his best friend. it started as a crush, until it grew over time but they stayed as best friends because he was scared that he might break the friendship that he took care of. their story was full of pining from mingyu for maeve who has no idea that her best friend has feelings for him. 

on a fine day, the girls have their free time and they are all gathered in the living room. they were talking for hours until the topic was about crushes and such- and one of the girls opened up,

"don't you think mingyu sunbaenim has feelings for maeve?" the girl said and silence engulfed the room.

maeve who was lying down immediately seated and gasped at the question.

"what do you mean, he's my best friend!" she exclaimed, goosebumps all over her body. 

it was awkward and the rest eyed each other. they communicated with just staring at one another and did not believe that their main dancer was completely unaware of mingyu's feelings for her.

"oh my god, maeve, do you seriously have no idea?!"

it was the girls that made her realize and let the idea into her head. after that talk, maeve started to over-analyze her best friends actions. every sign that her co-members told her was all right. and oblivious to her own feelings, little did maeve know that she also likes her best friend.

　✽ they officially started their relationship during fall of 2022. people around them quietly celebrated after learning that the two are finally a couple because of the pining and slowburn.
