— mood ring's girl next door a somewhat of a "persona" that director lee and lim keep pushing on her. she's not deemed as special looking, but with hard work she can be, and that's what they want to sell to teenage girls. it's also evident in her likeable, easy going, genuine personality, which causes minseo to become a somewhat popular member of mood ring.

— growing up, minseo never thought much of herself. she never thought she was particularly pretty, but people would compliment her sometimes (and she wouldn't take the compliment). she just feels really regular degular. but that's part of the charm that attracted director lim and lee when casting her. she's pretty, but in a subtle, natural, girl-next-door type of way. she's leggy, with longer legs than torso. and very boney with long limbs, every korean teen girl's dream; standing at 168cm, and very petite in size at 44kg. she has the proportions to become an aspiration to fans, while not seeming too unattainable. 

— she has a soft friendly look about her, minseo, almost mousy in a sense. with a small face, the size of a grown man's fist and a rather cute round button nose, but slender nose bridge. her eyes are cute, the size of a deer's in headlights; big and round appearing innocent. though having a small face, her round baby cheeks take up most of her face. her bottom lip is fairly plump in contrast to her barely nonexistent upper lip, punctuating her mousy visual. she has large ageyo sal due to her chubbier cheeks (also resulting in bigger eye bags that minseo hates). director minji says that minseo has the appeal to all the teenage girls who don't feel like their special; nothing about minseo is especially spectacular, but it's the details and the natural everyday visual that will appeal to young girls.

— to add to it, minseo is not particularly fashionable. if you were to ask her what is her style, she'd just shrug. "whatever i find that is cute and comfy." conversely, some members of mood call her the "fashion terrorist", something they probably shouldn't say anymore. but they find that minseo does not know how to dress, even if it is casual. she tends to not know how to style certain pieces together, so instead of looking of the times, she tends to look a bit dated in her clothes. 

— this could be due to minseo's love of thrift shopping, but even sitll, it is how she chooses to wear the pieces rather than the pieces themselves. her clothes tend to be baggy and not flattering, sometimes pulling off the tomboy look and other times... not. she does not accessorize much, but when she does the item tends to be wild, not matching the outfit. minseo is not the type to hyper fixate on what she wears too, so she doesn't see the problem. she tries and it doesn't look too great, or she doesn't try and is just in sweats. that is, until the stylists try to help her for airport looks. overtime, she starts to see the importance of styling, learns some things, and her fashion improves. think kang seulgi (circa 2015).

after multiple attemps of the myer-briggs personality test, minseo keeps getting both infp and enfp, so she guesses she can be both extroverted and introverted. it really depends on the day and her mood. minseo is a true chameleon in that way; able to adapt to situations and match people's energy. maybe that is why most of the girls of mood ring were able to get to know her and get along with her right off the bat.

immediately when meeting her you can tell that minseo is a truly a good-natured idealistic person. almost naively so. she seems like someone who is extremely optimistic and does not have an evil bone in her body. you could blame it on how sheltered she grew up, but she can be naively postiive. she can have trouble with balancing reality with her optimism, only seeing the good and not considering the bad. this can lead to her being hurt in the end, as she tends to give more than others.

at her core, she is really self-less and mainly perseptive of other people's needs. so much so, that she tends to put everybody else's needs above her own. minseo is really dutiful, obedient, and reliable in that sense. out of all of maknae line, aria would say minseo listens to her the most. minseo is a text book people pleaser. she likes playing it safe and follow the rule, that way she won't cause any unnecessary conflict. it could be the only child in her... it could be the surpressed abandoned child in her... you ask her to do the dishes of 12 girls, and she will do it with no outward remark. she's the most trustworthy friend; most members come to her when they need to just rant, knowing minseo will just quietly listen. 

she's too nice and hardly ever gets mad, but that's her weak point. originially minseo is an opinionated and outgoing person; she's not afriad to speak when she wants to (sometimes too much, actually). but she is also a mediator, never wanting to rock the boat or change the atomsphere. this is the people-pleaser in her. this also results in minseo harboring certain darker feelings alone. this also results in minseo going from passive to passive-aggressive when she finally does get mad. not a great development, especially when living and working with 12 girls. 

the sagitarrius in her makes her naturally a free-spirit. never been into the traditional outlook on life, minseo has always been driven by her need to explore. she was always a curious kid, which developed into an introspective girl who is always in her head. but she is an expressive girl, always sharing her philosophy on life, always staying open-minded. *cue the many late night livestreams* but this can quickly turn into over-thinking for minseo; becoming self-critical and  doubting her own confidence. her self-critical aspect is what minseo contributes to her fast growth at mhd, never wanting to bring the team down. though a great motivator for the girl, she can often push these critical thoughts to someone else, expecting everybody to think the way she does. 

on the outside, minseo is the "everyday girl" or the "girls next door". she cries, she gets scared, she gets bored, she feels ignored, etc. she is still young and bright because she is just know experiencing the world. she can be naive and about it though, having a few dumb blonde moments. but she's loved for being spunky and a little quirky. that's her appeal.  that's why people love her.

bckground. 

born in haeundae, busan, minseo's life was a little different from her friends. she grew up near the beach raised only by a single mother and her maternal grandmother. she did not have a father, as far as she knew. her mother never spoke of him and minseo never asked out of respect, but she's never had a fatherly figure in her life. but she was raised by strong women. women who ran a popular coffee shop near the beach, making good enough money to be a tourist destination.

all minseo knows for a fact is that her mother and father met each other while at art school in seoul. they were young, maybe too young, and minseo figures it probably scared her father. he couldn't handle being someone's father while he could barely take care of himself at age 20. her mother never graduated, coming back home to busan to receive support from her own mother. it's been the three of them ever since. 

they lived a pretty modest life, but minseo grew up with everything she needed. and minseo was always conent; she never felt she needed more than this. her mother felt more like a best friend and not a authortive figure. that was reserved for her grandmother. she grew up feeling optomistic, her mother always telling her that she could do whatever she put her mind to. minseo didn't feel like she had a specific purpose, she was just living her life. she figured she would end up doing art, like her mother because of the connection they have with it. that was until summer of 2018.

in the first week of summer break 2018, minseo and her best friend went on a weekend trip to seoul, just the two of them. this was when minseo was given an opportunity that would change her outlook. to this day, she doesn't know what was necessarily appealing about her, but she was approached by a mhd entertainemnt casting director. she took the card, but she wasn't planning on auditioning. she had no talent, and absolutely no idea about anything really. after she came home from that trip, she was pushed into at least auditioning after encouragement from her mom and best friend (and not her grandmother). "if i had an opportunity just fall into my lap... any opportunity, i would take it. i would at least try." 

so she auditioned with the little talent and knowledge she had. and suprisingly to minseo, she passed and immediately started her journey at mhd: working on becoming a person who deserved her opportunity. 

LIKES.

— coffee due to her family owning a coffee shop, she's grown up her early teen years working as a barista. her go to drinks are hazelnut iced coffee or mint chocolate frapuccino.
— mint chocolate despite how others may feel about it, minseo is a mint chocolate feen and will defend it until the end of time.
— plushies she has a pleathera of different plush characters including moomin, stitch, and olaf.
— sour candy she loves the pucker feeling; sour patch kids are her favorite.
— beach being from busan, she's used to the beach being in close contact. the han river shall do for now.
— art she's pretty talented in that department, probably because her mom is an artist.
— horror films she finds them funny and not scary at all, unlike some people *cough cough*
— video games she's a master at video games. ask minseo to play any game and she'll beat it, just give her a day. you'll never catch her traveling without her nintendo switch.

DISLIKES.

— insects she's very scared of insects, like she calls hana to take care of them.
— reading or math or anything to do with school, besides art.
— cooking partly why she's bad at it, she rather just wash the dishes. it's known that minseo always burns everything. "did you burn it again?!" "...maybe..."
— cold weather she's already always cold, and her birthday is in winter and does not love that about herself.
— green tea and tea in general, but especially green tea. she finds it just so robust, but bland at the same time?
— melon flavors this includes watermelon, cucumber, melon, etc. she's not sure why, but everytime she smells one of these, she gags.
— heights this she remembers throwing up at lotte world after a ride as a kid.

— MHD ENTERTAINMENT [ july 2018 - present ]

being one of the few trainee's to join last and right before the acceptance cutoff, minseo felt a little insecure. all the other trainees either had previous training experience or natural talent that needed polishing by this point. minseo had never done any of this ever. this propelled her into go mode, working hard to not be the weakest link.

all of the training staff, especially eunha and kimberly, marvel at minseo's alarming development. she went from not knowing any of the basics of singing or dancing, to being one of the most promising trainees in both areas within a year. her rapping was something she was always naturally good in, not that she knew until she auditioned. after she auditioned with super bass, and then expressed her special talent for tongue twisters, mhd saw rapping talent in her. instructor boosan always challeneged her to try different rap tones, and she was always able to deliver, not knowing she had this talent. minseo went from one of the most inexperienced trainees, to one of the most promising. but really, minseo worked hard mainly so that she did not let her team down.

— STAGE NAME minseo + the directors thought it was safe to go with minseo over what they were going to go with: mini. at the time of mood ring's debut, another group gaining popularity had a member with a similar stage name. ultimately the mhd staff didn't see the name as a safe option, plus minseo wasn't really vibing with it. "but i'm not mini... i'm quite tall, right?"

at first, minseo's vocal skills aren't anything special. she was a natural light tone, airy and pretty. she sings more from her head rather than her chest, therefore she lacks good belting ability. when she debuted, she was named an all-rounder but didn't feel like she deserved it; she felt mainly as a good base for the rest of the vocal line. as minseo receives more vocal lines in her career, she works with trainer eunha to develop a rounder sound with more agility, allowing her to work on her high notes and adlibs. over her career, she becomes more confident in her voice. x

minseo's dancing ability is what she feels most comfortable with. minseo's body is very agile with her feet, making her movements light and seemingly easy. she doesn't look like she breaks a sweat. she is very precise with great accuracy on the beat. while precise, she is also smooth, making sure to follow through all the movements with energy and attitude. she has a great grasp on her torso, dancing from her core on down in order to be so agile with footwork. her energetic and alluring facial expressions only enhances her stage presence. x

she feels pretty confident in her rapping, it's kinda one thing that's easy for her. with a naturally loose tongue, it's second nature to pick up on a rhythm or cadence. out of all the rappers in the group, she does not adhere to one rap style or voice. minseo is able to change her tone or attitude to fit any song. x

rElAtnshp. 

— mother & grandmother  with no father in sight, minseo grew up with rather nontraditional formative relationships. minseo and her mother, jihye, are more best friends than mother/daughter. imagine the mother and daughter from gilmore girls... yeah that's them. often lacking a true line between friends and parent, which bothers her grandmother. it's probably because of the 20 year age difference, a smaller one than most of her friend's parents. they tell each other everything and bond over everything. but sometimes her mother's easy-going, fun personality can actually be flighty. and sometimes minseo does not always get what she needs emotionally from her mother. though it's not like she will confront her about that.

thankfully, her grandmother is there to be the authoratative figure in her life. the figure she needs to stay grounded. her grandmother, youngsook, is strong-willed and a little bit more strict. she's a business owner and a single mother raising her grown daughter and grandchild. the family's dynamic is more of a mother and two daughters at this point. youngsook doesn't agree with how loose their relatinoship is, but she is always there to fill in the blanks and fulfill the structured role minseo needs. and she's even there to reprimand minseo's mother when she deserves it, knowing minseo won't say anything to spoil their good standing. 

— aria  the fans call these two "the awkward couple". they are just fine in a group setting; they can act very couple-y and close with other people around. but for some reason, it gets very awkward with just the two of them. they don't know why that's the case since they bond over having very smiliar core values and personalities. and the members definitely make sure to tease them about this. why can't they hold a conversation by themselves? maybe it's because they can be too similar; there's not enough opposition to keep their relationship staminia going. either way, minseo looks up to aria, like an older sister and maybe even a leader. she respects aria (probably the most), and listens well to her so not to disappoint the girl. 

— hana  these two have a fairly good relationship. they are mainly bonded by minseo's first couple of weeks at mhd. hana was one of the main girls to really take minseo under her wing. hana often worked overtime to help minseo catch up to the other trainees, because she could sense minseo's desperation to want to do better. minseo is and will always be grateful for those couple of weeks. as minseo became more aquainted, her and hana weren't really as attached as before. they aren't the type to be always on each other, but when they are together, they can bond over the similar interests they do have like food, choreography, snacks, songs, and favorite colors. because of hana's chill personality, the ever so easy-going and reliable friend, minseo, feels like she can have a loyal friend she can talk to when she feels troubled. and be sure, when hana says something remotely funny, minseo is the first one to laugh. 

— fern  if minseo was asked who's her best friend within mood ring, she'd most definitely answer fern. and vice versa. they had chemistry as soon as they met, like two peas in a pod. and the fans can see it, as "fernseo" is one of the leading ships in the fandom. since minseo joined they have bonded over their similar interests and similar ages. minseo is only 4 months older than fern, but she likes to dote on her and . "fern, you're so cute and young..." "unnie, we are only 4 months apart!" often they bond over their love of snsd and languages: with minseo teasing fern on korean slang she doesn't know at her young age, and fern trying to teach minseo more english than "what's up?" and "bro". they often get teased by their members about how close they are. "are you guys flirting with each other?"
 

"COULD YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF?".

— minseo has her lips shut tight together as she waits for the instructions. "oh dang!" she says excitedly, trying her best not to ramble, what she does best. "okay, wassup?!" she says both excitedly and nervously. "your name?" "right. wassup? i am do minseo... a member of mood ring!" she waves looking unsure, not really understanding how to do this.

"WHAT ARE YOUR PERSONAL STRENGTHS?".

— as minseo looms over the question, she puffs her cheeks out looking to the ground. "mmm.... i think that i am optomistic and i try my hardest to understand everyone and help them as much as possible." "so you're the personality angel? super nice to everybody?" she bursts an embarrasing laugh into her hand. "no, i'm no angel. but i try not to judge easily or get mad quick." she nods. "uh, in terms of talent?" "sure" "i like to dance and rap, but i think i need a little help with singing, so i'm working on that!"

"WHAT COLOR SUITS YOU?".

— minseo tries to hide her smile by running her tongue across her tongue. she doesn't know if she's supposed to answer with the right choice or how she actually feels. "um, blue.... light blue. it's my offical color. light blue means trustworthiness and serenity" she states robotically and unsurely. "you can say a color you really feel." you can hear minseo audibly let out a sigh. "i don't know, i always saw myself as a mint green, it's my favorite color. i recently looked it up and it means growth and good luck. i don't know... i think those two describe my recent journey." she rambles at record pace before she shyly clamps shut.

"WHAT'S YOUR GOAL FOR MOod ring?" .

— "I want us to find success, which I am positive we will!" she says with one arm up in a fighting pose. "but mainly... i wish that all 12 of us will stay together for ever. as sisters." she does a shy smile to end.
