just like any typical korean girls, eunchae likes to keep her wardrobe choice minimalistic while giving out cutie y vibes. think mainly jennie kim, a bit of joy park, plus occasional kendall jenner. except for doing grocery shopping within 500 meters of her accommodation, eunchae always looks good. even if it's just tshirt and jeans in a hurry, her outfit still compliments her proportions. eunchae has a love for knitwear and cardigans, as well as wide leg pants and flare jeans. she likes to say it never goes wrong with a crop cami top and a pair of light washed dad jeans. recently she likes to take inspirations from old american shows like monica geller or rachel green from friends.

 

eunchae was born as the first and only child in the cha family. her father is a former goalkeeper of the national football team whereas her mother is an audit manager, providing eunchae with much privilege upon being born. following her father's career, eunchae was used to moving homes every couple years, therefore she was never good at making plans - what's the point of making any if plans change the next second? fortunately, she was the princess of her parents who spoiled her for their lack of presence due to their commitment to work. that was why eunchae fell so deeply in love with her highschool sweetheart, the one who brought stability and sense of belonging to her. they met in a private high school in seoul. ryu jiwon was loyal, patient and a gentleman. back then, she really thought jiwon was her entire world - especially when her family was falling apart.

 

ever since they returned to korea from osaka, eunchae noticed her parents began to argue more and more frequently. though their houses have always been big enough for eunchae not to overhear the content of their disputes, eunchae could sense that it involved another certain japanese lady. eunchae began to adopt a more rebellious lifestyle trying to get her parents' attention: staying out late night in hongdae, talking back to her parents, ignoring their calls, so on and so forth. these all proved futile. fights and disagreements accumulated over the years and when eunchae finally turned sixteen, they decided to separate and file for a divorce. eunchae's mother, with a more stable lifestyle, got eunchae's custody.

 

so when jiwon told her he wanted to go back to his hometown to study university, she didn't even hesitate to follow him to jeju island. frankly speaking, she was not the biggest fan of her soon-to-be stepfather, especially when her mother looked so in love and uninterested in her own daughter's life with her new life focus. she thought this would get her parents' attention and they would have an excuse to spend time together - but clearly her parents thought this was all an act of rebellion, that eunchae would have applied for universities in seoul and other closer cities too. her father couldn't even speak to her her in person when he's coaching the football team far away in saudi arabia for fifa 2022. only that she didn't.

 

just as she prepared herself to truly get onboard with the idea of studying university in a strange city with her boyfriend, as if god thought her life was not dramatic enough, she found out jiwon cheated on her. how ironic. it turned out him applying for jju was supposed to be the perfect reason to break up with her but she was so supportive with the idea he didn't know how to tell her. and as all deadlines have passed for a plot twist, her parents finally realised their daughter was really going to jeju island all alone, and they were not prepared, not to mention furious. 

 

"if this is how you decide your own life, then you need to be responsible for your own choice." that was her mother's exact words during the wedding dinner with her new stepfather and stepbrother. the next thing she knew, she was being cut off by her mom, and about to begin a new journey in jeju island all alone.

 

 

eunchae is a really genuine person. she always acts with her guts and instincts, and she never tries to hide it. born as the only princess of the family, eunchae tends to be a bit too spoiled and self-centred as she is used to everything being accommodated to her liking and preferences. not to mention that cheeky side of her to expect everyone treating her like a princess. she did not have to think it through before her actions as her parents could just save her with money and connections. thus, she has become a rather irresponsible and spontaneous person, thinking that everything could be get back to the right track as long as she asks for her parents' help. in fact, from a young age, if she cried or complained about something, she would eventually get what she wants. there is barely anything she does not dare to fight for it. especially when she was raised by a pair of busy parents trying to compensate her with material. this is also why eunchae grew up caring a bit too much about material and appearance.

 

but eunchae has the sweetest heart for people she likes. she is loyal, and will always fight for you once you are considered her side of people. born in a world where money solves all problems, she has become a pretty gullible person who is not afraid to see the best in people. and even when she thinks she hits rock bottom in her life, she still tries to see the better side of it. she is fortunate enough to have such a spirit. of course, eunchae is not just sugar spice and all things nice. deep down behind the facade of a spoiled brat who uses whinings and complains as the centre of attention, lies an insecure and sensitive soul who fears betrayal. her parents have betrayed her, even though she has tried many many ways of getting their attention. there is always a part of her who thinks she is not worth it. so she uses her egoistic and whiny personality as a coping mechanism to suppress her insecurity. eunchae's biggest fear is people abandoning her. in this case, she could always tell herself that they just couldn't put up with her bratty personality- not because she is not worth it, the reason she is so scared that would be true. so if someone showed any signs of genuine annoyance or irritation, she would immediately back off and keep her distance before she gets too attached.

eunchae's schedule is pretty routine. she goes to classes 80% of the time, as she really hates the thursday seminars. she is a part time barista at the happy bean cafe to earn her allowance as she's been cut off from her mother. she attends two yoga or pilates classes a week at the university sports centre as she's been attending reformer pilates classes since high school with her mother's membership back in seoul. eunchae is also a member of the dance club which meets every monday evening.

 

in her free time, eunchae likes to go out and explore cute restaurants with her friends, or travel around to take photos of jeju's beautiful scenaries with her film camera. after her early shift on fridays, she sometimes goes out drinking and partying with her friends though she is not really a big fan of it. when the weather is bad, she would just stay in dorm with her headphones on binge-watching drama series. while eunchae enjoys spending quality time with her close friends, she also enjoys a certain amount of time by herself not thinking about anything.

DIRECTION

university is really the time eunchae tries to see a positive change on herself. she has never really made any choices for herself all these years: she moved from cities to cities for her father, kept changing her personality in front of her mother to impress her, then chose a university for her ex-boyfriend. in university, eunchae will start a new life without her parents flooding her with everything but attention and time, she will get her first part time job and see the world in a new perspective where she is not the privileged. from now on, she is making the decision for herself and no one else. eunchae will become a more grateful person and eventually, she will learn how to re-connect with her biological parents and her new family.

"hello, my name is cha eunchae. i'm a freshmen, majoring in chemistry and cosmetics. my biggest passion is fashion and cosmetics, and then food," eunchae giggled with a sheepish grin.

"huh, this is a tough one. i picked jeju university because..." eunchae tried to think of a mild word, "...of a jerk. i wanted to follow his decisions, and here i am. let's not focus too much on here now, i don't want to talk about it anymore." she closed her eyes and shook away all the messy thoughts, "and just like i said, i'm very interested in cosmetics, so i wanted to turn my passion into my career."

eunchae's eyes sparkled, "working closely with cosmetics? hopefully i would be running my own brand as a subsidiary under a major multibrand company like amorepacific or lg." she smiled with her eyes shaped like a crescent moon.

"is this like a job interview or what?" eunchae's brows furrowed and mumbled to herself, "it's definitely starting to feel like one." she paused for a bit, "well my biggest strength- i'm loyal, and i'm a really kind person!" as if she is trying to convince the interviewer, "i always help the ones in need, and i've never turned my back against anyone- hell, not even my cheating ex-boyfriend! like i haven't even tried to sabotage him- yeah okay i'm being side-tracked. what's next? oh my biggest weakness. to begin with, i could be a , a whiny . i am a bit spoiled, if you still can't tell," she let out a weak chuckle.

"well, i have never shared a room with anyone else since i left a cot bed." she tilted her head, "i would hope that my roommate would also be my close friend that we could hang out outside the dorm. i mean, it would be like bffs sleepover everyday!" eunchae chuckled a bit at the thought. "though, i guess i really cannot tolerate excessive noise and a dirty lifestyle. ideally she would be a fun person? okay i feel like i'm describing a perfect and unexisting person now i'm gonna stop myself-" she raised her palm and nodded at her own words.

"to survive on my own...?" eunchae then added, "hey, i'm being cut off from my mother so that's a lot of harder than it sounds for a person not diagnosed with any mental health issues yet." she shrugged, "we'll see. i'm just excited to meet new people and put my previous life behind me i guess."

PERSONALITY 

sungbin is a very easygoing person to get along with. he is always sitting in the corner, calmly coding on his laptop with a rational mind. everyone loves oh sungbin. if you ask about him around the campus, you will hardly hear anything bad about him. he is smart, he is good looking, and he has a pleasant personality. sungbin is polite and patient to everyone, maybe because he is used to being the accommodating one around his siblings. he is an obedient younger brother and also the older brother to pamper the maknae. many would compliment his kind and genuine personality. the responsibility and stress of bring wealth to a humble family has mounted on him all these years which makes him a person who is very focused on his goals, sometimes too focused that he neglected other more important things.

 

however, sungbin is not a person easy to get close with. he tends to shut his heart from everyone else, and barely ever opens up. he is not used to being the centre of everyone, and simply feels insecure about himself as the sibling with the least achievements in the sung household. sungbin is scared that if people get closer to him, they will see his dark side and will see that he is not as perfect as everyone thinks he is. he is selfish. he is jealous of his siblings. he is flawed, just like everyone else.

BACKGROUND 

oh sungbin is born and raised in jeju island. he is the middle child of the family, with an older brother, oh yebin and a younger brother, oh chanbin. he comes from a rather humble family and his life has always been simple. his older brother, is a straight a student and his younger brother is extremely talented in sports. as a result, he was naturally overlooked a lot. his parents still loved him truly, but their attention would often, if not always, shift to his brothers. since young, being the more quiet one among the three of them, he often found himself sharing friends with his brothers. his friends would always be associated with one of his brothers. and eunchae was the first friend he made without his brothers' help. his goal in life has always been clear: buy himself and his parents an apartment. being so money-oriented, he told himself he's either doing a finance degree or computer science degree. and so he did, in jju, where he could still be close to his parents to take care of them. he thought he could escape the shadows from his older brother when he enrolled in snu in seoul yet his younger brother followed his footsteps and enrolled in jju as well. and again, he became someone else's brother instead of being oh sungbin.

 

currently, sungbin is in his second year of university after his finished his military service before his enrollment. his works part time at happy bean cafe and is also a part time freelance model due to his good look. he typically does photo shoots for local online fashion brands.

LOVE STORY 

sungbin and eunchae actually met each other way before university, when they were being neighbours in 2006. eunchae has always have this fade memory of boy playing with her all the time in jeju island, even her parents would mention that sometimes. they say they were so attached to each other that both of them refuse to go back home for dinner just to hang out in the playground. in fact, they were best friends until eunchae had move to osaka for her father in 2011. she was pretty sure there was a bunch of kids she would hang out with but she somehow liked sungbin the most. maybe because he was the most gentle person she's ever seen. she approached him first in the playground. he was sitting alone near a tree playing with his toys with no one around him. "hey, do you want to play hide and seek with us?" she asked. and that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

 

they reunited in 2023, when eunchae first started working in happy bean cafe, where sungbin has been working in for six months already. "hey, do you want to get some food with us after the shift ends today?" he asked her few days after she started working. they did not immediately recognise each other like how the main characters did on kdrama. it's been a month since they have known each other in jju, and sungbin only then recognised eunchae when she showed him her childhood photos in front of the playground they always hung out in. it was a magical feeling, reuniting with someone you thought you'd never see again.

 

eventually they started meeting more with their mutual friends at happy bean cafe. sungbin really taught her a lot of life hacks in saving money and being more street smart. he would take her to the cheapest restaurant with the best food, get grocery with her when they are on sale, and do thrift shopping with her as well. sungbin was not sure exactly when he started to harbour feelings for eunchae- maybe she has always had a special place in his heart from the dreamy childhood memories. when he is around her, he is just oh sungbin, instead of basketball star oh chanbin's older brother. he always has eunchae's full attention from her sparkling doe eyes. eunchae knew when did she start falling for him. it was a really random moment in a coffee shop outside jju. she was typing something on her laptop (probably an assignment, but whatever), he was running late on their date. just when she looked up as the bell rang at the entrance, he was rushing to the table she was sitting at. there was a shade of red on his cheeks from all the running and he was breathing heavily, with sweat around his forehead. he kept apologising for being late but she really couldn't hear anything other than her freaking loud heartbeat.

INTERACTIONS 

sungbin and eunchae in everyone's eye are just a pair of close friends. no one has really considered their possibility of being a couple due to the rumours of eunchae still having feeling for her ex, jiwon. they do act like close friends, doing grocery shoppings together, working part time shifts together, and eunchae would help sungbin take photos for his modelling portfolio. sungbin guides eunchae a lot in her first year of university, and eunchae enjoys tagging along like a little puppy. sungbin would wait for eunchae's classes to finish and walk her to happy bean cafe and to work their shifts together just to spend more time alone with eunchae. being two years older than eunchae, sungbin naturally takes care of her a lot and is quite protective of her around people, especially around strangers and in front of runa. he is quite aware of eunchae's previous infatuation with runa so he always stays alert when runa is around.

 

when in private, sungbin and eunchae are more intimate and comfortable around each other. they are more physically affectionate if it's just the two of them. they talk about many things. well, usually it is eunchae doing the talking. sungbin would nod along and giggle a bit when eunchae spoke of something hilarious. sungbin often finds himself enjoying teasing eunchae and starting small banters with her. eventually she would get pissed but he can always calm her down. eunchae brings fun in sungbin's mundane life. her unique perspective of life makes him realise the little things to be grateful for, distracting him from solely seeing the money and results. eunchae shows him that there are other colours in the world. they understand each other's insecurities and help each other in becoming a better, more confident person. they heal each other's complex. they know whatever happens in the future, they will have one another's back.

TRIVIA 

 

🪐eunchae is residing on campus in chungsam hall whereas sungbin is residing in an apartment shared with two other flatmates whom he met in his course. the apartment is a 3-bedroom apartment just a fifteen minutes walk away from his faculty building. sungbin prefers to stay with his friends as he needs to work pretty late for his projects and needs a lot of private space to work on them.

 

🪐sungbin is actually earning much more allowance than eunchae with his modelling gigs so he likes to treat eunchae for a nice dinner regularly. since she has always been the more fortunate one to treat others nice dinners, it is a very pleasant experience for her.

 

🪐they have established that whenever they are in a fight, one of them will initiate truce by buying the other person a cup of coffee.

 

🪐their favourite spot to date in campus is one world cafe and lounge. many would thought they'd enjoy hanging out at happy beans cafe but it's just the worst if you have see your boss while you are on a date.

 

🪐on their first date, sungbin took eunchae to mini golf and she pretended not to know a thing about it so he could get close to her physically while teaching her. eunchae is very proud of this.

 

🪐on their first date as a couple, eunchae took sungbin to her favourite italian restaurant in jeju city and took a walk along the sea. she is also proud of this and thinks it's the golden perfect first date template for jeju island.

 

🪐but their favourite date activity is grocery shopping and staying in with homemade dinner. sungbin is an excellent chef, and eunchae is very keen on learning how to cook so she can get rid of dishwashing duties.

 

🪐they like to exchange secret cute glances during work at happy bean cafe. their colleagues are aware of their relationship but as long as it won't affect their work efficiency and professionalism, all is good. when eunchae walks past sungbin, she would hold his hand for a second and tickle his palm. sungbin likes to gives eunchae's waist a pat when he's behind her. the fun part is to act innocent and normal in front of customers.

 

🪐they barely ever fight. their fights are usually about eunchae going out for parties at late night. eunchae tends to drink a bit too much when she's with friends and all excited. sungbin does not like how eunchae couldn't control her alcohol consumption and get drunk which be get dangerous when he's not around. eunchae dislikes how sungbin passes opportunities simply because he's not confident enough and afraid to fail. he sometimes turns down modelling jobs just because he thinks he couldn't pull a certain concept of. but they both understand their fights are with good intentions so they usually make up pretty fast.
