After completing high school, Tony decided to take a gap year to explore the world. He wanted to see new places, meet new people, and experience new cultures. He convinced his parents to let him travel to the United Kingdom, where he had friends who were studying at various universities. Tony was excited to join them and live a life of adventure. Tony's parents were initially hesitant about the idea of him studying in South Korea, but they eventually relented when they saw how important it was to him. Tony was excited to continue his adventures with his friends and start a new chapter in his life. He enrolled in Jeju University's architecture program and was thrilled to be studying in a new country.

Tony's first few months in South Korea were a bit of a culture shock. The language was different, the food was different, and the customs were different. However, Tony was determined to learn as much as he could and immerse himself in the culture. He made new friends and explored the beautiful island of Jeju.

Despite his love for adventure and excitement, Tony was also serious about his studies. He spent hours in the library, poring over books and drafting designs. He was determined to be the best in his class and create beautiful buildings that would inspire others.

MAJOR Architecture
ROOM PREFERENCES Tony would prefer to have a single room, since he is an Architecture student, he will have to need a lot of space for modelling, drawing etc. Since he knows that the single room is limited, his other choice would be a double room. If he were to have a roommate, he does not want his roommate to study the same course as him too, if not the room will be filled with stuffs and the two of them can't live in the same room. Other than that, he has no specific criterias for his roommate.

In a nutshell, Tony has classes everyday, but with lesser hours. He has an average of 2-4 hours of class everyday, 3 days are in the morning while the rest are in the afternoon. The rest of the time will be him staying in the studio working on various assignments in his major, as his major is known for having tons of assignments and amendments that are needed to be done. hello! welcome to the jeju university family! can you tell me a bit about yourself?

Sure, my name is Tony Yu and I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. I am an only child in the family. After finishing high school, I decided to take a gap year and traveled around the UK. It was a great experience and it gave me the opportunity to explore different cultures and gain a new perspective on life.

I am currently a freshman at Jeju University in South Korea, majoring in Architecture. I have always been interested in the design and construction of buildings, and I believe that architecture is a field where I can combine my creativity and practical skills. My experience at Jeju University has been challenging, but also rewarding. I have learned so much about the different styles of architecture and the technical aspects of building design.

out of all the colleges in korea, why did you pick jeju university and why your major?

I chose Jeju University primarily because it is one of the most reputable universities in South Korea for studying architecture. It has a strong program and offers many opportunities for students to gain practical experience through internships and collaborations with local architects. Additionally, the campus is located in a beautiful and unique environment, surrounded by the natural beauty of Jeju Island, which I find inspiring and motivating.

As for why I chose architecture as a major, it has been a long-standing passion of mine. Growing up in Vancouver, I was always fascinated by the unique and innovative architectural designs that adorned the city. I was particularly drawn to the idea of designing buildings that could both inspire and improve the lives of people who inhabit them. It is my belief that architecture has the power to positively impact the world in significant ways, and I am eager to be a part of that change. So, I decided to pursue architecture as a career and enrolled in the best program available to me.

where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years, I see myself as a successful architect with a thriving career. I hope to have completed several notable projects that showcase my unique style and creativity. I envision myself as a leader in my field, having gained a reputation for my innovative designs and attention to detail.

Additionally, I hope to have established my own architecture firm with a team of talented professionals who share my vision and passion for design. As for my weakness, I can sometimes become overly talkative and dominate conversations, which can be off-putting to others. Additionally, I can sometimes struggle with listening carefully to others and taking their perspectives into account, as I can get caught up in my own ideas and thoughts. Overall, I try to be mindful of these tendencies and work on improving my listening skills and being more considerate of others.

as a freshman you will reside in chungsam hall, what do you look for in a roommate? any lifestyle habits that you find intolerable?

As a freshman, I am definitely excited to meet my new roommate and make new friends in the dorm. When it comes to what I look for in a roommate, I value open communication and mutual respect. I think it's important to have a roommate who is easy to get along with and has similar interests, but at the same time, someone who is different enough to bring diversity and new experiences to my life.

Regarding lifestyle habits, I prefer a clean and tidy living space, so it would be great to have a roommate who shares that value. I also hope to have a roommate who is considerate and respectful of shared spaces, such as keeping the noise level down during quiet hours. However, I understand that everyone has different habits, so I am willing to compromise and work things out if there are any differences.

what are you looking forward to the most as an incoming freshman?

As an incoming freshman, I am looking forward to meeting new people and making friends. I am excited to explore the campus and take part in various extracurricular activities. I am also excited to start learning about architecture and the various aspects of design. It will be great to collaborate with my peers on projects and assignments, and I hope to learn from their perspectives and experiences as well. Additionally, I am looking forward to experiencing the culture of South Korea and exploring the beautiful island of Jeju.
