hyunwook seemingly has an unlimited reserve of confidence wherever he goes. he holds his head high as he walks, outfit perfect to the shoes, and gives off a very charismatic vibe wherever he goes. people either look up to him or are intimidated because of him, though he usually puts those fears to rest with his friendliness and niceness - unless you give him reason not to. he gives off a 'don't touch me' attitude, which is somewhat true given his extremely independent nature, but that vibe is more often than not because of his confidence.

stubbornness to a fault is also one of hyunwook's characteristics. it's not that he doesn't take no for an answer; he just needs a lot of convincing. because of his confidence which can border on arrogance, hyunwook has much confidence in his decisions and ideas. this often means that he doesn't see the need to change his ideas, and coupled with his rebellious nature, hyunwook would practically straight up do anything you told him not to do (only when he feels like it. the only person who can control him is really the leader and dongsaengs). this stubbornness is also more apparent when it comes to his skills and creativity. you tell him you can't do acrobatics on stage? fine, he'll prove you wrong. however, if you lay stuff out to him in a logical manner, he'll listen, since he's a reasonable person. just don't be hadstrong against his stubbornness, because it'll backfire completely. in a way, his determination and willingness to rebel is also one that he channels into his art. ultimately, he is an artist and a performer -- because of how creative his stages are known to be, he has pressure to get them right, and everytime he pushes just how far he can get with everything.

hyunwook was born the middle child of an upper-middle class family in seoul on the 7th november 2000. his family wasn't particularly wealthy, but they're comfortably well-off, and will only accumulate more wealth in the years to come. being the middle child, hyunwook didn't particularly stand out or was neglected - he was just...kind of there. his older brother, hyunseok, was the one that his parents focused their hopes on, and his younger sister, eunyeon, was the the joy of the family.
as hyunwook grew up, his parents had enrolled him in stereotypical asian classes like piano and violin, and he found himself enjoying music and performing more than his studies. nonetheless, he devoted himself obediently to his studies, because his mother is a university lecturer and not attending university and getting a degree is unheard of.
however, it was when he entered middle school that he realised he was actually different from the others. hyunwook first encountered his uality then, when all the other boys started talking about dating and such, but he was only focused on the tall, handsome boy that was the dream of every girl in the radius. it was also then that he encountered dancing, and hyunwook soon devoted himself to the art, especially traditional dance.
his parents then decided to send him to an international school for highschool, where he encountered students sent from overseas. exposed to such a liberal climate only made him more sure of himself, both his passions and his identity. he met a lot of like-minded people, especially in the social circles he frequent -- dance club, theatre and musical theatre, everything just made him more fascinated and determined to become a performer.
hyunwook then auditioned for multiple entertainment companies without telling his parents, and lo and behold he got accepted into jyp. when he realised he had to sign the contract with an adult present, he was forced to sit down and have a discussion with his parents, during which heated words were exchanged. however, his parents recognised that this was one of his biggest dreams, and they couldn't do much since he was already accepted in one of south korea's top entertainment agencies. nonetheless, they cut a deal with him - he can pursue his dreams, but he has to get into tertiary education and even if he doesn't do uni yet (on the case that he became an idol), hyunwook has to get a degree some point in his life.
however, as he got deeper and deeper into the entertainment scene and began making a huge name for himself, getting into university started to slide down his list of priorities.
LIKES
➺ cats :: they're his soul animals and he really wants to bring his pets to the dorm, but he knows they'll wreck harvoc, so he settles for visiting them when he's free
➺ rainy days :: it makes him calm and feel at peace with himself and the world. when he's feeling melancholic hyunwook likes to put on rainy ambience. but yes. his favourite days are those where it's raining (preferably thundering) outside and he's snuggled inside, warm and toasty, with a hot drink in hand.
➺ milk tea :: his favourite beverage. otherwise, mocha is good too. but he prefers tea over coffee, mainly because coffee does nothing for him and he hates the bitterness. green tea gives him the kick he needs in the morning. and by milk tea, I mean the taiwanese/hong kong type of milk tea, not the british kind

➺favourite genres of music :: r&b, jazz and ballads, though he also likes hip hop. he has two different playlists - one to chill out to, and one to hype himself up in the morning so he can get out of bed and drag himself to dance practice.

DISLIKES
➺sunny days:: on sunny days hyunwook makes a point of wearing sunglasses, a bucket hat and a mask. hence why his skin is so pale
➺chocolate :: he doesn't like consuming chocolate because of its richness. however, chocolate helps keep him awake, so he keeps a bar of it in his bag - he breaks off tiny chunks of it whenever fatigue starts settling in.
➺ trends :: hyunwook hates it when he has to follow a set trend because he sets his own, thank you very much.
➺waking up early :: who thought becoming a trainee was a good idea again? yeah he didn't foresee the problem of needing to wake up early and haul his to the practice rooms. he usually makes up for it by practicing late into the night, but eventually chan dragged him away and told him off, so he grudgingly goes back to the dorms at a reasonable time. doesn't stop his alarm from being literally the loudest and most annoying one in the dorm though.
➺cold foods :: he gets brain-freeze so easily. so no ice cream, and no ice lollies. though hyunwook does enjoy the occasional bingsu (shaved ice)
➺ bell peppers :: eurgh for him. he just hates it. mainly because it's tasteless.
➺ sour food :: hyunwook hates sour food with a passion. he's literally the worst person to do the 'eat a lemon and whistle' challenge
➺ hypocrites :: the worst kind of people in the world. if you can't practice what you preach, what even is the point of those words coming out of your mouth in the first place?
HABITS
➺fiddling with his accessories whenever he's restless or nervous
➺taking long showers at night, only if people don't need it. it's a good time to reflect on the day and relax as well
➺hitting snooze like ten times before he wakes up. the first alarm actually is enough to wake him up, he just hates getting out of bed
➺he wraps himself in a blanket whenever he's cold, kind of like the ones female idols use to cover their legs with. that's why there's always a blanket in their car because he needs to sleep and the boys like to blast the air conditioning on like it's the desert. if he doesn't have a blanket he just uses his jacket to cover his upper body
➺listening to music, though never when he's walking
➺likes to put in only one earbud so he can pay attention to whatever's been said. only if he's sleeping or relaxing does he put in two
➺a lot of skinship, but only if he's with people he's close with. hyunwook has a habit of draping himself over maknaes

MISCELLANEOUS
➺his alarm was district 9 by skz. then he changed it to god's menu by skz. s hate these songs with a passion, because it's often them who had to switch it off. the worst thing about hyunwook's alarms is that he sets like 10 five mins apart so it's a never-ending barrage of 3racha's beat drops. it helps wake the other members up though, which is a plus. his leader made him change it to a milder tone. hyunwook compromised, so now it's bird chirps
➺he's a clean freak but is also kinda lazy so he just leaves his stuff as it is. he does clean his personal space like once a week though, so it still looks decent.
➺he's surprisingly good at cooking. hyunwook does the cooking at the dorm. (though it's secretly because he doesn't want to do the dishes)
➺he hates airpods because he keeps losing them, and then he discovered galaxy buds (which have wings around the edge so they'll stay on). he's addicted to them now.
➺he's a hard advocate of stretching before practice. hyunwook would be up your nagging if you don't warm up before dancing
➺he secretly wants to grow out his hair (like beomgyu or hyunjin's)
➺he loves his privacy. this applies to both privacy in his private life in the dorm and in public life. hyunwook controls the information fans are privy to, and shuts down rumours immediately if they were bad. he shows no mercy to his haters.
➺speaking of showing no mercy to his haters, hyunwook is the guy in the group who initiates lawsuits against sasaengs and haters online. he's really efficient at bringing up issues like these to upper management.

➺hyunwook has really bad hay fever and he's allergic to dust, pollen and feathers

➺he's a frequent napper. hyunwook takes advantage of literally any spare time to nap and spends his time in the car just dozing off. the funny thing is he can immediately go to sleep when he naps, but not when he actually sleeps. rip

➺this has a default body temperature of freezing. even in summer he has to sleep with blankets

➺hyunwook loves his fans a lot. he truly does, and does a lot for them. in fansigns, he tends to have a pile of chocolate beside him so he could gift them out.

➺hyunwook's sassiness often manifest in the form of flirting with s. soobin hates it but there isn't really anything he could do, and hyunwook promises that this only happens in front of cameras. hyunwook gives everyone their fanfiction moments.

hyunseok is hyunwook's older brother by four years, and looks menacing, but is actually a huge softie. he's extremely protective of his younger brother and sister, but mostly hyunwook - despite people saying he shouldn't choose. when hyunwook decided to pursue an alternative career compared to the ones that their parents preferred, he supported his baby brother whole-heartedly, and even helped him talk to their parents.
he currently is the ceo of their family company, a middle-sized one which sells electronics (similar to samsung), though he has a secret passion for music and works part-time as a producer under the name of 'seong'.

the baby of the family, no one can really find it in themselves to say no to her, especially hyunwook. despite being a mere 2 years younger, he is nonetheless extremely protective of her, and for some reason hyunwook always manages to find out about eunyeon's new boyfriends and stalk check them out just to make sure they're good enough for his baby sister.
sister complex aside, they actually have a really good relationship. their childhood was a bit turbulent because of their parents' absence, and hyunwook tend to shield her from everything because hyunseok can't always be there for them. hyunwook is also her confidant, though he never really tells her anything because he's worried that he would be burdening her unnecessarily.
regarding her relationship with hyunseok, it's a little...complicated, primarily because of their age difference, since hyunseok is 6 years older, and the difference only gets more pronounced as they age. she's currently a university student with dreams of getting into the entertainment industry as well.

persephone is basically the feline version of hyunwook. she is very picky and particular about people, and makes it very clear who she likes and who she doesn't. if she doesn't like anyone, she scratches them. people kept claiming that she needs to be more well-trained, but in front of hyunwook she's a literal angel, so honestly he didn't see what the problem is. she's currently being taken care of by eunyeon, who adores her.
HIS OTHER FAMILY
'step out! hello, we're stray kids'
✙ stray kids was the group he was going to debut with - his brothers and his second family aside from his own. as part of the debut lineup, he was very close with the members and was even part of the 2000 liner (though still the second youngest, being born later than seungmin). ✙

as the group's second youngest member, hyunwook looks up to chan a lot. since he's one of the members who aren't fully korean in terms of upbringing and culture, hyunwook vibes well with chan's aussie-ness and even picked up some of the australian accent. but yeah, he respects him a lot and even viewed him as a mentor at some point, until they became closer and chan told him to cut it off. when hyunwook was eliminated from the lineup, he was devastated, and had a long talk with chan. to this day, hyunwook is still very close to the leader and they greet each other like old friends at award shows (the same goes for other members)

as the dance leader of the group, minho and hyunwook communicate well because they share the same language. initially hyunwook was a little wary of minho because he was 1) bts' former backup dancer and 2) not very friendly, but after getting to know each other closer as part of the debut lineup they warm up to each other very quickly and became the biggest menace ever to exist. literally, don't put any other member of skz with them in the same room because it'll be torture.

changbin is one of the members hyunwook is less closer to solely because he's more on the producing side, and hyunwook himself is more on the dance side. nonetheless, he knows changbin as a good and friendly hyung and they're good friends with each other. they just interact less because of their positions.

these two are really really close friends because of their pure sassiness and dancing capabilities. as two people who are often called visuals (and not appreciated for their other skills), hyunwook and hyunjin have had many talks about this and shared their worries and thoughts with each other. on a lighter note though, hyunjin and hyunwook often hang out together because of their shared love of fashion and accessories. they usually go shopping with felix together.

similar to his relationship with changbin, though hyunwook gets along better with jisung because they're born in the same year. hyunwook often makes fun of jisung's british accent even though he literally only studied in malaysia, but yeah. he's secretly a little jealous of jisung's ace capabilities, but is mostly in awe of how well of a performer he is. hyunwook likes talking to jisung because he has a lot of deep thoughts to share, even when he's tired. he's kind of the up-all-night-and-sharing-midnight-talks kind of friend to hyunwook.

queer international besties (I know felix isn't actually queer and he hasn't said anything at all but I kinda assume he is - if this feels inappropriate to you please feel free to ignore everything about their shared queerness below!). as someone who speaks english as his native tongue, felix struggled a lot with korean when he first got into jyp, and aside from chan, hyunwook also helped him with the language a lot. in fact, hyunwook was the first one that he approached because they're the same age. after the two realised that they both share the rainbow flag, they became super close and virtually inseparable, even up to the present day. like chan, felix was devastated when hyunwook was eliminated from the show, and even more so when he realised hyunwook wasn't going to be brought back. to be honest, he blamed himself for a while when hyunwook didn't get back into the lineup, until the man talked his friend out of it and insisted that he carries both their dream forward. even now, they're virtually inseparable close friends who always hang out whenever they have time. felix knows hyunwook's whole family.

because seungmin didn't enter the company until a little later, they didn't really get a chance to properly know each other. nonetheless, they became close during the survival show, but other than being acquantainces, they don't really have any other interactions or thoughts towards one another. hyunwook is impressed by seungmin's ability to speak fluent english though.

even though jeongin is literally one year younger than hyunwook, he can't help but view him as his baby (yes, even though he's the second youngest). as someone who presents older beyond his years, hyunwook feels like he's a hyung to jeongin rather than someone belonging to the maknae line.
FRIENDS

✙ txt ✙ joking titled his 'in-laws', hyunwook is close to the members of txt through soobin. as someone who's the same age as their leader, he gets made fun of by the younger ones a lot, but in good will. the members (the ones who know, anyways, but they aren't good at keeping secrets so why am I prefacing this lmao) also tease/cringe at their relationship if they become affectionate around each other openly, so they provide a great source of entertainment for them lmao.

hyunwook is the closest to yeonjun out of all the members. putting aside the fact that he makes friends with people older than him the easiest, yeonjun shares his sense of humour and personality, so they vibe along quite well. also the fact that they're both the boy group dance masters of their individual groups. they sometimes hang out in the practice rooms just chilling and learning new dances.

kevin is one of the few people that hyunwook can genuinely call his best friend in the industry, because those are so hard to come by. they bonded backstage at a music show when they were performing, and since the boyz is their senior hyunwook's group went to greet them. initially hyunwook became friends with eric first because 1) english and 2) same age, but he then got to know kevin through eric and they formed another idiot trio because yeah. hyunwook is closer to kevin than to eric because he views kevin as someone he can confide to and talk to whenever he encounters difficulties, but the three don't really keep secrets from each other.

hyunwook auditioned and got into jyp due to his dancing skills, and caught chan's eye when he was assembling his team. he participated in the survival show leading up to the formation of stray kids, but ultimately got eliminated along with felix and minho, and unlike those two, did not make the final cut when they were brought back. hyunwook wasn't sure why the hell he was eliminated, but it was later explained to him that while his dancing was strong, he wasn't the best singer and his stage presence was lacking compared to minho. essentially the reasoning was - compared to minho, he didn't have the experience of standing onstage and performing in front of a huge crowd, hence lacking in stage presence. compared to felix, he doesn't have the charm the other possessed, nor the uniqueness (read: deep voice) that he had, and was ultimately eliminated. he decided to train longer despite knowing it was hopeless, since it's unlikely that jyp would debut another boy group as quickly and his parents' patience is running out.

as somewhat of a last ditch effort and desperation, hyunwook decided to sign up for produce x 101 as a jyp trainee. because he had appeared on the skz survival show, quite a few trainees recognised him. nonetheless, despite being a fan favourite, hyunwook ultimately didn't make the cut, and he decided to leave trainee life for a while to recover.
TRAINEE LIFE:
hyunwook started at prism after being scouted in june 2020. he was studying for that year's university exams after being disillusioned with the trainee life, and was spotted by a scout when he was leaving a cafe. initially, he was hesitant to take up the offer, but ultimately decided to agree and give it a last shot.
he was one of the trainees with the shortest trainee periods, but given his past experience as a jyp trainee, few could argue that he was good. he handled training like how he did before - sticking to a schedule, staying at the practice rooms late at night and generally trying his best. unlike many of the other trainees though, hyunwook didn't try hard to make friends. he did that before in jyp and produce, and he wasn't sure whether he could handle it. during the trainee period, hyunwook was somewhat on autopilot - wake up, eat, train, sleep. he makes good conversation with people who approaches him, but he doesn't have a huge circle of friends like before. nonetheless, he's polite and he's friendly, so people like him.
doesn't mean he got rid of his waking up problem though.
MEDIA PRESENCE:
hyunwook has had multiple pre-debut appearances, so he definitely is more well-known than other members of the group who has never been on tv. when he was on skz's survival show, he was the second youngest member, so people kind of babied him and comments were mostly about how cute he is - until they see his dancing. truth be told, he was a little ualised because of how well he dances and that has made him uncomfortable more than once, and this only increased further into his career.
nonetheless, the media is generally obsessed with him. his visuals and the elegance he carries himself with, coupled with the way he dances and moves onstage makes everyone mesmerized with him. his history as a jyp trainee also garnered huge attention - it's not often that a jyp trainee that doesn't get into the final debut lineup gets so many opportunities afterwards, so even during his hiatus year he still has fans.

hyunwook doesn't want to build his reputation as merely a dancer - while it's the thing he excels at, he definitely wants to try other things, such as acting and improving his singing. I can see him wanting to collaborate with other artists in the industry while he's trying things out, but producing probably wouldn't be his endgoal (and if he ends up doing it, probably a side-thing). I think he'd suit a unit group, but only if he has artistic control, because he wants to present his own work to the public.
outside of being an idol though, he'd probably want to try out acting, both onscreen and onstage. he joined drama and mt as a high schooler, and the thrill of acting still stayed with him. once he improves his vocals, he'd definitely try auditioning for a role on a musical. aside from that, I can see hyunwook being contacted for modelling gigs, which again, he'd probably try out. also I feel like he would become a dance mentor on survival shows - it's likely trainees might be slightly scared of him because of his perfectionist personality, but they would learn well from his experience.

PERSONALITY: as leader of txt, soobin is a responsible and mature individual...in the appropriate settings. he takes care of s well, and makes sure they're eating well, sleeping well, all the schtick, because otherwise they won't function well.
in reality though? despite his strong and confident exterior, he can be quite awkward with strangers and may be unsure of how to communicate with people he doesn't know. this can end up manifesting in strange ways, but at the end of the day he means well, and he always ends up being caring towards those he loves.
he also becomes more vulnerable and lets loose a little around those he's comfortable with. with hyunwook and s, he laughs more and is at ease more, even joking around and playfully teasing them, though often gets easily embarrassed when he gets too far (at least in front of the camera).
empathetic and charming, soobin is a person who understands those around him well and takes care of them well. he listens to people's concerns when they come to him, and offers them advice if they're in need of it. he's also charismatic, though it varies from time to time, and doesn't necessarily show in a fierce way. LOVE STORY: hyunwook and soobin met during promotions backstage - as their senior, vesper decides to greet txt in the changing rooms and introduce themselves, etc. though txt recieved their album (idols sometimes exchange albums backstage as a gift of sorts, I think) with thanks and politeness, they eventually became more comfortable around vesper and started joking around like the crackheads that they are. through multiple interactions, the two groups started to become close friends with each other.
as the only member who's the same age as he is, hyunwook got instinctively close to soobin even though he's the leader. after realising that he's soobin's hyung despite being his junior (technically senior if we're counting years in the industry but shhh), the two got a good laugh out of it and started becoming more comfortable with each other, and eventually started hanging out more.
initially, they started hanging out as a group with members of stray kids as well. their group has monthly dinners if the members could make it, but on one occasion it coincided with stray kids' promotions, so soobin and hyunwook went to eat alone, which strengthened their relationship with one another. hyunwook realised that he was someone whom he was able to have deep conversations with and share his thoughts with, so he really appreciated soobin's presence. similarly, soobin feels like hyunwook is someone he can be comfortable and let loose around.
when hyunwook's gay rumours started resurfacing, he became distressed and started spiralling a little. because of his mental status, he ended up taking a hiatus and resting. hyunwook couldn't go home because of his parents' homophobia, so he stayed at his brother's place and tried to regain a stronger mental state. it was one of the hardest periods of his life because not many people checked up on him - while his idol friends were supportive, few asked after him because they were afraid of the repercussions on themselves if dispatch or whoever finds out about their communications, so there were a lot of short phone calls which ended in an excuse that they need to perform, rehearse or whatever. however, amidst all of this, soobin was one of the few people who actually actively checked up on him. he even bought food for hyunwook on a few occasions, and since hyunseok wasn't always at home (business trips) the two ate together whenever soobin was free. initially, hyunwook was worried and skeptical that he wasn't accepting of his uality, but after having a long talk he was reassured that soobin was fully supportive of his identity and doesn't really care about who he was.
as hyunwook gradually healed, he started falling in love with soobin and his kindness towards himself. there was a long period of time that he struggled with his feelings for the other idol because he was afraid that admitting such feelings would end up breaking off their friendship, plus he was pretty sure that soobin doesn't experience attraction to men either. cue a whole three months of hyunwook being awkward around soobin and soobin being worried that he did something wrong, until yeonjun told hyunwook to get his together. anyways, he eventually went for it and the two got together after that :)

➺ the two like cuddling a lot. because of their introvert personalities, sometimes they just chill in each other's presence without saying anything. hyunwook's favourite position is sitting on soobin's lap with his legs dangling on either side of his hips, while he rests his chin on his shoulder. or him sitting on soobin's lap. both works.
➺yeonjun has became kind of their default wingman - he'd resigned himself to the role after he smacked some sense into hyunwook.

➺ their height difference secretly drives hyunwook insane. and by insane I mean the excited kind of insane. he has a thing for size difference, so whenever soobin hugs him or puts his chin on top of his head hyunwook instantly blushes and gets embarrassed. but he loves it.
➺ soobin's favourite part of hyunwook are his hands and legs. they're dancer legs, and though soobin is a good dancer, he's made up of more muscle than leanness because of his powerful dancing, whereas hyunwook's traditional training means he's slender all throughout.
➺ hyunwook's favourite part of soobin is his lips and neck. he tries not to leave marks on his skin whenever they have promotions, but soobin still gets teased by txt whenever he comes back with his sweater pulled up to his shoulders.

➺ hyunwook is someone who can get quite jealous and possessive, so soobin always gets a good laugh when he becomes a little grumpy. the two generally don't try to make each other jealous with their interactions with members, but sometimes it happens and depending on their mood, it can result in either silence from either of them, a phone call to talk about it, or something...else (spicy).
