background by the time gyuri was born, her parents were falling out of love. they didn't do much to hide it, she was used to them arguing and her dad storming out the house for days. her parents couldn't stand being in the same room so she envied kids that looked like they had two happy parents because she always only had one.
gyuri took up ballet when she was 6. her friend from school took ballet and she wanted to join her. deep down it was because she wanted to spend less time at home because she didn't like all of their arguing. but as a 6 year old she didn't recognize the true reasoning. her parents divorced when she was 8 and she just lived with her mom. she poured a lot of herself into ballet. she was actually very good at ballet and it didn't take long for her to pass her peers. she wanted to stay with her friend that was in the lower level class so she took two classes, one with her friend and the other that was more challenging. she balanced dance and studying well, more classes meant more time away from home too so she was happy about that. her teacher was very positive to her because she was bigger than the others but still let her be lead. in the mean time her mom tried dating multiple times so gyuri never really knew what a happy home looked like because right when she was getting used to someone they broke up.
at the age of 12 she got discovered by a staff member of mm entertainment who actually went there to look for hiphop dancers but saw gyuri in ballet class and thought gyuri was beautiful so he offered her to audition and she passed.

gyuri loves her mom but she doesn't look up to her. she grew up seeing men walk all over her and it became the norm to her. it wasn't until recently did she start to get her power back and she still sees old qualities that she used to have in her mom. she wants her mom to be happy with herself and her mom looks up to her for being so strong. they're not very close but don't have a bad relationship either. sunhwa was the motherly leader, main vocalist and dancer of gmix. as the oldest she was the one to take care of the girls and most mature. in a way she was the rebellious one because she was the one to speak up for them if anything despite not having much power. the whole time she was in 2mix and gmix she had a job on the side but stayed because it was her dream. besides doing minor acting roles and web dramas she mostly does musicals now a days. she always had a beautiful and highly underrated voice. now that she’s in musicals she’s finally starting to get some recognition. sunhwa is still like a mom to the girls, in the group chat she’s the one to ask everyone how they’re doing and make sure they all meet up once in a while. gyuri is the closest to her, she looks up to her a lot and wishes to be like her. whenever gyuri doubts herself as a leader she asks for advice from sunhwa who always knows just what to say.

yewon is absolutely gorgeous and as the visual and lead vocalist has to deal with all the pressures that came with it more than anyone. she’s a very shy person and even more camera shy. while in gmix she developed bulimia and depression and since disbandment has been on her way to recovery. the girls got closer over their mutual struggle with bulimia and now with recovering. she doesn’t look back on fame with fond memories, the only thing she’s grateful for is meeting the rest of gmix and some of bmix. now she lives a regular life without even a social media. she’s a student at yonsei university medical school and has a boyfriend who is also a med student. it’s the complete opposite of her old life but she’s actually happy for once. she’s really supportive of all the girls activities and shows up to their performances.

every group has a wild card member and that was minjoo. she was known for speaking her mind and not much changed since then. as the lead dancer and main rapper she was fierce back in the days and the most popular after yewon. after disbanding she became a bj, dancing in skimpy outfits for her millions of followers. she’s doing very well too, making the most money out of all of them and has absolutely no regrets about her job. she’s just unapologetically herself. she looks back at her time in gmix as a rollercoaster but something that she’d do all over again because at the end it made her stronger and a hell of a good bj. she also went to some wild parties and loves laughing about the men she dated back then.

gyuri still talks to all of bmix. whenever 2mix has a reunion she’s there if her schedule allows her. out of all of them she’s closest to youngjin, hyunwoo and myungsik but finds herself texting them all at one point or another. it was Hyunwoo that told her about jinkyu’s cheating. he refused to sit back and see it happening and that actually brought them a lot closer. he confided in her a lot when it comes to his uality and she was happy he could feel open with her. since she’s the same age as youngjin they were very close too and still are. they were like a trio with jinkyu back then but now they barely talk about him. whenever they talk about old times and he comes up she can’t help but to feel a bit awkward actually. her relationship with myungsik mainly stems from dance, since they had the same job before they bond over showing each other choreography. bomin is always there to make her laugh and send cute videos of his daughter. she has her moments of silence with seonho but it’s all comfortable. if anything they can talk without words, just making a facial expression at each other and they’re both laughing.

gyuri trained for 2 years before debuting at 14 years old. when she debuted there wasn’t any significant struggles during training for her just the usual tiredness of it all and learning to be a hiphop dancer. she specialized in dance since she did it all her life and had a soft singing voice. she didn’t mind not singing much back then because she really preferred dancing.
when she made her debut she felt proud, it was like a dream she didn’t know she had until she had it. so when they went on a hiatus after their first album she was just as determined to help the company get back on their feet. it was her mom that put some money towards the company and gyuri helped out by joining local dance competitions. if she won she gave her winnings to the company. since she was a student at the dance studio for so long her teacher gave her an assistant teaching job for the little kids. she also got a few bucks on the side from doing other students homework at school. she was one of the members that became a choreographer for both bmix and gmix. throughout the years she helped choreography a lot of their songs.
after seeing bmix get 15,000 sales when they had a comeback gyuri was anticipating doing really well too. so when they didn’t she felt a bit defeated. since there were only 4 girls it took them a bit longer to make money so they didn’t have a dorm until their second comeback. they’d stay over at their leaders house during times of promotions instead. after miss you came out and there still wasn’t much progress gyuri started to question herself and if it was her fault they weren’t popular or well liked.
miss you was the turning point for them, the cute songs weren’t working out so the company decided to switch it up and try a bit of a y concept. gyuri continuously gained weight before that, she was dancing a lot but she also ate a lot. food became a comfort for her. they put the girls on a strict diet so their legs could look longer even if they were short. by now they were all living in a one bedroom dorm monitored by their manager so they couldn’t cheat their diet at all. for the month before their comeback gyuri was only able to drink one bottle of soy milk a day with dance practice and working out because she was the heaviest. if their manager caught them eating anything else they couldn’t eat or drink anything for the next 24 hours, that happened to gyuri the most because she tried to sneak food. they also had a scale in their living room so the girls weighed themselves multiple times a day. gyuri lost 10kg in one month. there were times when she felt faint but she didn’t say anything because she didn’t want to burden her members that also were going through the same.
when pitapat came out the girls were in short shorts with no safety shorts underneath to gain more attention. gyuri was 17 so she was underage at the time and really uncomfy so during their first comeback stages she didn’t go full out since she was afraid her would show. as the dancer she had to be front and center too basically shaking her at the camera and audience. but then she got ridiculed by her manager and other staff for not going full out and making the group look bad so since then she just it up.
they slowly grew in popularity but them being provocative came with y male fans. at their fansigns she would catch male fans staring at her cleavage instead of her face and it made her uncomfortable but she couldn’t do anything about it. there were many times she caught guys filming them from underskirt angles all the time and she couldn’t say anything because to the company any kind of fancam was a good fancam. even if it was from an inappropriate angle they could gain more fans if it went viral. no one cared about their music, just their bodies since that’s what they mostly promoted so there was a lot of pressure to look good all the time.
onstage she looked y and slim but behind the scenes she passed out during practices from dehydration a few times and developed an eating disorder. gyuri constantly weighed herself to make sure she wasn’t above 45kg because she feared she’d look fat and ruin gmix’s y image. whenever she ate she couldn't stop herself from eating a lot from stress but was scared to gain weight so she threw up her food. her company was okay with them eating at one point as long as they threw it up later and weighed themselves. she didn’t have her period for years either. anytime the group failed to gain attention or sell albums the company blamed them so she blamed herself a lot for things out of her control.
she thought their career was going up after selling 20,000 albums for love emotion but when presente happened it all went downhill. they suddenly got so much hate from bmix fans and death threats. the amount of hate comments they got surpassed the good comments. their videos and songs went through mass dislikes. when they were promoting naturalness fans would harass them on their way to schedules and they got booed during one of their comeback stages. their sales went down so much too. they still had two years left in their contract but mm ent decided they weren't useful to them anymore and disbanded them after that.
for the last 5 years she was an idol thats all she knew and to have it taken right from under her all of a sudden left her stuck with no where to go. she wasn't popular enough to go solo and had no interest in acting so she went back to what she knew best, dancing. she became a dance teacher at the studio back in itaewon and focused on healing herself both mentally and physically. she started taking yoga and meditation to help with her anxiety and found a safe relationship with food. at the yoga studio is where she got discovered by siryeon, they ended up talking before class and gyuri ended up being the leader she was looking for.
