BACKGROUND not everyone is made to be parents and that was jinkyu's parents. he comes from a regular family, his dad was a used car salesman and his mom a hotel clerk. they had little money but even more little was their care for him. once he was able to fully function on his own in elementary school he was really on his own. he walked himself to school everyday and did his own homework without being told. whenever he "messed up" which was mostly just him being a kid but his parents saw it as him getting in the way, they hit him and told him to go in his room so he won't disrupt their shows.
starting in elementary he got bullied for being poor. his parents forgot to do his laundry sometimes so he went to school with dirty clothes and sometimes he's find random holes in his backpack or socks. he was also just a chubby kid since when his parents were gone he ate whatever he wanted. he learned to do his own laundry and sew so he can fix anything that ripped.
he discovered that he wanted to be an idol when he was watching music bank with his parents. it was specifically super junior and tvxq that stood out to him because a ton of girls were going crazy for them and they were all so good looking. he asked his parents if they think he can be famous one day, his parents both laughed at him and told him that he was too ugly and didn't have any talent. it was true that he never showed an interest in singing or dancing until they but he still wanted to try. so the following year in 2007 he auditioned for sm entertainment.

Myungsik was the leader, lead vocalist and dancer that had to deal with the mess that was bmix. as the oldest he had a lot of responsibility and stepped up to every single one of them. a few times he lost his temper but always made up for it by treating them to food. he’s a blunt person but has a soft heart. fans would say that he looked like an exhausted dad most of the time and it was like he was. now being a struggling actor and a dance instructor at a hagwon the tired look on his face never quite went away. he saw jinkyu as a little brother, they choreographed together at times and he saw him grow up so he forgave a lot of the out of pocket things he said. was the one to calm him down through his tantrums too. actually when they disbanded myungsik told him to call him if he ever needed him and still sends him a message from time to time but never gets a response. he’s just hoping the best for him.

Seonho is a rap genius, he wrote all the raps and some for other members too back in the days. The main rapper of bmix now he spends his time as a producer under Starship Entertainment writing and producing songs for all kinds of Kpop groups. He’s the most quiet member, a crybaby that hates conflict and avoided any drama by using producing as an excuse. Prefers to keep to himself and barely had friends when he was an idol. He’s really awkward when things get tense with his friends and he’ll just quietly tear up in the corner while it’s happening. He has to admit that Jinkyu was a jerk and isn’t very fond him. But part of him misses Jinkyu. he’s still a sentimental dude after all. But doesn’t want the drama that’ll come with reaching out to him so he doesn’t. He’d be one of the happiest to see bmix all together again though, after an apology of course.

bomin was the 4d member, loud, happy go lucky and annoying. he was a hot mess but a lead vocalist. always the one to lighten the mood with a joke and break up any arguments. no one would’ve thought that after bmix disbanded he would end up getting married and being a stay at home dad. actually he’s been dating his current wife since 2014 so all the members know her and are happy for him. his daughter was born in 2020, he brings her everywhere and sometimes forgets to turn off dad mode. it seems that ever since becoming a dad his jokes have become more lame too. he’s reached out to jinkyu on social media before especially after seeing all he’s went through but never heard anything back. yeah he was a jerk but hanging out as bmix without him isn’t the same. he just wants everyone to be happy and get along.

youngjin was jinkyu’s best friend back in bmix. he was the lead vocalist and main dancer. both dancers that loved to choreograph together and told each other everything. 2jin was the most popular ship among fans. even after he became a jerk youngjin stuck by his side giving him the benefit of the doubt when other members talked bad about him. but jinkyu took it all for granted and started treating him bad too. going as far to say he didn’t contribute to the group after getting vocal nodules twice from high notes and seeing all the pain he was in. seeing bmix become jinkyu and the boys, he refused to sit back and let the company play into his delusions so he terminated his contract. he went mia after that until participating in mr trot in 2020 and placing 2nd. his career has taken off since then. he still keeps up with 2mix but hasn’t spoken to jinkyu at all and doesn’t plan to either.

hyunwoo always had a temper, some might call it a case of napoleon complex but he was always the one to stand up for what he believed in. that included standing up for bmix and even gmix. the lead rapper of bmix is fiercely loyal and it’s gotten him into a few fights including with jinkyu. ever since jinkyu made it big their personalities clashed even more making them hit everywhere but each other’s faces. their relationship deteriorated from that but hyunwoo didn’t leave because he loved and believed in the group. he was the short member that everyone loved to make fun of, including jinkyu but he lost that privilege after becoming a brat. they haven’t spoken since bmix disbanded but since then hyunwoo discovered his uality and now he’s currently serving in the military. he meets with the boys on every break he has, and even the military can’t stop his firecracker personality.
GMIX
gmix isn’t very fond of jinkyu because of what he did to gyuri. minjoo especially loves talking bad about him. ahyoung was the one that treated him like her little brother when they were in 2mix so she actually feels bad for him. being an idol left her with ptsd so she knows that it’s probably the same with him and she hopes he gets better. but none of them talk to him. they just kind of feel bad for him, except minjoo.

wooyeol is a friend that jinkyu made after becoming an actor. he’s a rising actor himself that’s similar to jinkyu both known for being good looking and charming guys. wooyeol doesn’t have one scandal under his belt but he’s completely different off camera. he’s a huge fboy and introduced jinkyu to all the clubbing and drinking that he does now. his motto is you can do anything as long as you don’t get caught. he’s part of the blame for jinkyu’s change in personality because he just influences his behaviors.

hyeji is a gold digger. a sasaeng fan turned girlfriend that is really just there for the opportunities. she basically lives at jinkyu’s house and spends his money like crazy. he’s really whipped for her because she basically hypes up everything he does and boosts his ego. she enjoyed being taken to exclusive events and parties and bringing her friends along too. but when he’s down and going through a hard time she isn’t there for him. she finds it annoying actually. she was actually one of the girls that broke into gmix’s dorm in support for bmix. she comes off as condescending to people, a posh opportunist. but as soon as his money and popularity starts going down she’ll leave too and become a sasaeng of another idol looking for another opportunity.

jinkyu started training when he was 10 years old. he auditioned for sm and didn't make it but got scouted after his audition. mm staff lingered after to try and catch good looking trainees. jinkyu wasn't very good looking at that age but maybe the staff saw the potential in him.
he trained for 4 years before making his debut. he wasn't very talented at anything so the staff helped him learn a lot since he was still young and inexperienced. since mm entertainment was such a small company they didn't have a building like others, the whole basement of a small building was the company. it was quite run down with leaks sometimes and they didn't have dorms so everyone had to go home at the end of the day. the company was in seoul but jinkyu still went to school in wonju. he just traveled back and forth from the company to school to home everyday on an 1.5 hour train ride. lucky for him he was already used to going places on his own. he was one of the maknaes of 2mix and by the time they debuted his position was vocalist and dancer.
being in mm ent was the first time jinkyu was actually treated like a kid and taken care of. he was so used to taking care of himself that it was hard for him to let others do things for him at first but he got used to s helping him after a while.
when he debuted he was so happy. his parents went to their showcase and talked about how great the other members were since he barely got lines since he didn't have a lead or main position. he actually didn't hug his parents at all during that emotional time. it kind of hurt him seeing everyone else be happy with their parents but him so he promised himself that he will succeed to make them proud of him.
when 2mix went on hiatus he was only 14 but he got a job along with going to school and still going to the company to practice dancing and singing with the others. it was hard to get a stable job at 14 so he got random odd jobs like giving out the newspapers in the morning and folding pizza boxes or washing the dishes at a small restaurant. he was so focused on making his dream and his promise come true that he often skipped school so he could work more and get paid more.
he took that time to improve his skills because he was kind of lacking. s helped him a lot with improving by teaching him dance and helping his singing too. seeing them choreograph and produce or write encouraged him to try that too, it was mostly dancing that took his interest so he focused on that. eventually the boys were able to rent a one bedroom apartment for all six of them including their manager. jinkyu was happy to leave home and finish middle school in seoul because going back in forth was so tiring. by the time they had their comeback jinkyu lost a lot of weight and was cuter than ever now.
but for years bmix didn’t see much improvement in their careers and jinkyu was feeling it too. he envied the groups that won music shows and felt angry everytime others won but just had to clap and smile like everyone else in the back.
people don’t realize how much it affects idols to hear the group before them have loud fanchants but for them there’s barely any noise. they did busking and performances at small festivals all over korea just to get a bit of attention. constantly losing and not even being nominated made him work a lot harder to get better. eventually he dropped out of school and spent his days practicing and working instead because both better skills and more money for higher quality mvs only meant they’d get more fans.
he mostly helped with choreographing out of all. he was really depressed during that time because it seemed that no matter what he did nothing really worked. their fanbase grew slowly and steadily but not enough for him to be satisfied so he was getting impatient. the older members calmed him down when he used to have temper tantrums or cry through frustration since he was the maknae and they were frustrated too.
when the company brought up sending one member to rookiedol he volunteered. it was a survival show that premiered in january 2016 with the concept of making a 9 member temporary boy group to jumpstart the careers of idols that already debuted and aren't doing so well and trainees who are yet to debut. the contestants were split into 3 categories, seniors, juniors, and rookies. every week they competed within their categories by performances and missions and contestants were eliminated through online voting and judge votes. the top 3 from each category would make the final team. since he debuted in 2011, jinkyu was in the senior category and consistently popular throughout the show. he remained in the top 20 the whole time because he seemed genuine and he was good looking.
after almost 3 months of competing he came in 3rd place for the senior category. overall he got 7th place for the vote count. a month later he made his debut in xynergy.
because of jinkyu bmix and gmix started doing better. he brought awareness to his own group and company so being on the show was a success. but jinkyu let it all go to his head, he started acting different towards s. he acted like he was the only one in the group working hard and made everything about him. he was now balancing two groups and acting so he was really busy but the others were pulling their weight too. they got acting roles as well but it wasn't as big so to him it was nothing.
in his eyes they should've been grateful that he was paying all their expenses since they all split the check. it was in early 2017 when he demanded a change to their contract, it was after bomin left around eoeo era and while he was filming strong woman do bong soon. he wanted for every member to earn their own salary instead of splitting it, or as he saw it splitting his salary.
he was living his best life, he bought a car, gave some money to his parents and they were very impressed. he lived it up with other actors and idols partying the night away and hooking up with girls. instead of taking them to his dorm like before he took them to his newly bought apartment while the others stayed in their small dorm.
but behind the scenes it was jinkyu vs the rest of the group. everything they did jinkyu was front in center even though he didn't have a main position. mm ent changed his position to main dancer, vocalist, center as a justification. fans of other members complained but his fans defended him saying his dancing got so much better and so did his stage presence. for just a vocalist singing 35% of a song was a lot and there was obvious favoritism there. he didn't get nearly as many lines or screentime in xnergy but in bmix it was like he was the most talented one.
when xynergy disbanded and bmix started to be seen as one more often other than on stage, the cracks in their relationship started to show. bmix fans were tired of the obvious favoritism and jinkyu fans called them jealous that their faves were unpopular and untalented. they couldn't have a comeback without that being brought up and other fandoms took the opportunity to use it against them. videos that overanalyzed all of their actions to show how much they hated each other spread online. everytime they went out they were being watched like hawks for any little made video "evidence" showing that they weren't close. in public jinkyu acted innocent but it wasn't so easy for some of the others to hide their feelings though.
after the savage promotions they talked about disbanding, at the meeting jinkyu told them they wouldn't dare because they were nothing without him or bmix. he didn't even stay the whole time, he left half way through thinking everyone would go along. he thought the idea of even having a meeting about it was crazy because they planned on going on tour and that would be dumb to lose since it would be so much money.
he actually heard about them not renewing their contracts from hyeji. he was the only one that renewed, in his head the only one that had sense. to jinkyu it was like they all indirectly cursed at him and he swore to never talk to them. in interviews he acted innocent and said that the disbandment was a surprise to him because it was going so well but he’d miss the guys. when really he hated them more than anything.
jinkyu convinced himself that he didn’t need them after a while, he was the main character anyways. to him they were all traders and he could do better on his own but he was spiraling out of control. he continued acting after that but his drinking and partying habits got worse. he showed up late smelling like alcohol and didn’t show up to acting lessons. he treated the staff badly by screaming at them and cursing them too.
slowly he got less jobs and blamed it on his company. he sued them for double booking him for things making him ruin his reputation. the lawsuit made him not able to work and only more depressed because he still had bills to pay and a bad spending habit. the lawsuit dragged out for a while making the hype around him die down. it concluded in early 2020 and the company plead not guilty. in the end Jinkyu left the company and struggled to get signed by another. everyday he would just drink and party and spend his money with a care in the world. he felt like a total loser and drunk called gyuri. she said she wouldn’t help but secretly she reached out to siryeon to sign him and that’s how he ended up in prism.
MEDIA PRESENCE despite it all jinkyu has a good reputation. he has a good fanbase of loyal fans that come to his aid for everything. a lot left during the lawsuit but the ones that stayed are the really loyal ones. his antis are mainly bmix fans that biased another member. he’s still seem as charming and good looking to the general public. all the partying and being rude are just rumors that no one believed. they’re actually curious about his next move because he was popular at one point. but his reputation among those in the industry is different, according to show producers and staff he’s known for being reckless and a brat. that’s the only reason he stayed jobless because no one wanted to take the chance on him.

LOVE STORY jinkyu thought gyuri was beautiful the moment he saw her but it took him a very long time to act. he got friendzoned for a long time but put a lot of effort to get out of it by putting extra effort to impress her. he fell for her even more during 2mix's hiatus and seeing how passionate of a dancer she was. he shoot his shot when they were alone in the studio one night and she thought he was kidding actually. she said yes eventually though.
he was really in love when they dated. since bmix debuted first he filled her in with everything that happened like an excited kid. he just wanted to spend every moment with her. on stage after gmix debuted he couldn't help to go to them and constantly look at her with heart eyes. its a good thing they weren't popular because if they were they'd definitely have a dating rumor by his obvious behaviors.
but then its the lack of fame that ruined their relationship too. jinkyu complained a lot to her and took his anger out on her without realizing because he was so frustrated. he wasn't famous so when gyuri talked to more famous idols he hated it and thought she'd leave him for someone better. he was willing to fight for the girl he loved. everytime he had a bad day or wanted to complain she fixed it for him and it became that he needed her to fix his problems. she was the first he'd call.
when he made it to xynergy and got fame he was doing it for 2mix but he felt betrayed that they all him. he thought gyuri did too because he kept bringing up the others concerns and when she broke up with him he felt betrayed as it came out of nowhere with no explaination. he exploded at her instead of asking why. he cheated on her once and didn't know hyunwoo told her.
after they broke up he started dating hyeji almost right away. she's the one he cheated on her with. his relationship with hyeji doesn't compare to gyuri, she isn't as sentimental and helps him through his issues she just agrees and encourages him to drink it out. he's not in love with hyeji but she makes him feel cool and validated. truly he misses gyuri and wants her back, he'll do anything.
